Super Robot Quest

I like dice rolls on mecha development, since we either get spectacular results, or fail but get alternative, interesting options that may or may not be more useful.

On the other hand, if there's a dice in combat, I always afraid a series of stupid rolls make a fight that we otherwise will win become a defeat instead.

Maybe dice on development, but narrative on combat? So it felt like "this is the reward of your tireless research and good judgement" rather than luck?

I realize I'm quite late to the party, but the second option (retool the mechanics to have a mostly narrative focus with some light die-rolling) is my preference.

At the moment, I'm leaning heavily towards narrative combat but retaining dice roll mechanics for preparations and robot development.

Picked up inspiration recently from a game mechanic from one of the older SD Gundam tactical rpgs - G Generation F, if memory serves (and if it doesn't, my excuse is that this was like 15 years ago or so back in ye olden PS2 days). In between rocking through some of the Gundam continuities with an original character squad, there was an optional game mode, literally the Gundam Fight from G Gundam. You had NO input in the battle at all, it was basically an auto battler, where the AI chose stances, actions and attack moves, and you just hoped they chose well (or got Newtype pressure going). The premise was - how well did you prepare your suit and your pilot?

I'm probably going to try a similar system. You all will have super robot development, research, diplomatic actions and deployments to deal with, and dice rolls will come into play (determining degree of success or failure). The battles themselves will be narrative, with player choice voting to determine actions or course changes mid episode.

It's going to take me a little bit to get things set up. But I have a better idea of what I want to do and what you all would like to see, and it's better than what I started with. Thanks again so much for your patience, and please remember your contributions to Science.

SCIENCE!

Ideas? No issue. Execution? That needs some thinking over. I wouldn't expect the new thread to go live for another week or so.

That said, if anyone has any generalized questions feel free to ask.

Did we ever check the robot aliens for if they were capable of the ESP effects? Good Science has us check in order for us to try and nail down what is is.

I don't recall it coming up as part of discussion, but I could be wrong. You all certainly could check (I plan to be a bit more freeform when it comes to player choices and votes for the next thread)

New thread is going up tomorrow. Just spending another day or so to review and proofread, maybe add a few things before I post both the introductory post and the battle post for the Yukimura Institute fight we left off at.

Though I should also think a little more carefully before also planning to run an inperson Pathfinder 2e campaign for my friends that I've never done before at the same time help

Why are we transitioning to a new thread anyway.

Fresh start, especially since there's a lot of changes being made. Unless folks would rather I keep this thread going?
Up to you TBH but keeping it to this thread would maintain story continuity when doing a story only run. but that's easily fixed by clicking a link to the second thread and than clicking the story only tab to continue. I don't mind either way I was just curious.

New quest would be a sequel to this one right?
Assuming that it is a sequel all our achievements from this quest are going into our assets and resources for the new quest right?

Less a sequel, and more of a direct continuation. This is so the legacy stat blocks don't clutter things up - but I don't want to just get rid of them either since they were part of the quest for so long. I'll keep a direct link to this thread for anyone who was interested in looking into them.
