Super Robot Quest

@Thors_Alumni, why is Ivanna on the same project as Zulu? It's basically a wasted advisor action since she doesn't add anything. Might as well throw her on making use of Kausen Technology or C-Crystals.
Its doubling down and honestly I want to get a version of a hand held Cannon for every type of Robot we have. not the regular Hand held blaster but a true Hand Cannon akin to the Desert Eagle which is a cannon in comparison to a regular handgun.
EDIT: If I'm making a nuisance of myself I might as well commit, @Basarin we had Bandit rifles analysis result by Henry and Wilde and Zulu both note that they will open new engineering options but I can't find them?
We have already finished that, Anything else would probably have been pointed out by Galbinus or one of his group. And besides, the Rifle Bandit used at the Brenner Base was just a regular everyday Rifle and not a prototype IIRC.

But mechanically she adds nothing there, the only difference is that it makes is that we take less science actions this turn. The only consideration I see is that if she doesn't take any action there's less of a chance for actions to fail and so her reroll won't proc on other stuff, but can't you just sidestep away from it by stating that it should get priority reroll if it fails?

The results were noted to grant new options in the engineering actions, at the very least if nothing requires any follow-up we should have the option to upgrade our blasters with the new knowledge.

Gonna put my money where my mouth is; though is putting Diana on liaison duties wise given that the AIs are supposed to DFRI secret for now?
I assume that if it would cause problems @Basarin would have noted as such

@Thors_Alumni I suggest putting Sam's project as "Making Temporary effects last longer" The last time we researched Psychic Augmentation, Sam noted that it was possible to make K-scale harder or do other effects, but only for a second. Telling him to try to extend the temporary effects may allows us to have temporary abilities like extra damage, or more damage reduction.

Last turn, these were the results of the analysis:
The Duo have managed to gain some insights into the bulky blaster, and have some new ideas on how to modify our own current stock! New Actions unlocked next turn.
Zulu's found some interesting insights in Bandit's original weapon system that could be of use to the Engineers. New Actions unlocked!

I completely forgot about that, I will see what I can do. keep in mind that I want to keep Triple Combination prototyping going so I may or may not be able to make edits.

I Edited my plan to include it.

Oof, quite a lively discussion I missed out on.

I'll leave voting running a little longer before I commit to rolling. I've been literally busy all day so I haven't had time to look too closely at any questions but if anyone needs something clarified do let me know.

With Plan N3, the Sledder will be built as a combination vehicle for Perseus, correct? Just want to make it clear that is the intent, since to me the wording is not necessarily clear if it would refer to a support squadron or to a super robot support like the Shepard

@Basarin;

1) Would putting Ivanna on the same task as Zulu would change anything from putting her on a different task? It's probably less important now but I wonder if only mechanics count for actions or is their payoff influenced by who we put it (say putting Carlson and Max on the same actions will have different consequences than just using Max)
2) What happened to the stuff we unlocked from the blaster actions last turn? Is it just waiting to be fabricated/refitted on our robots or is there another engineering actions we need to take?

1) Not really, no.
2) This one is a lack of proper formatting on my part - in future turns, I will specifically outline in 'Practical Applications' what options are available. That one's on me.

I'll let voting run through until tomorrow morning.

[] Gifts of the Regent (Empathic Booster)
- [] Which Advisor?
- [] Write In what you want to pursue

- Chance for Success (roll 2d6, Threshold of 5-6)
- Duration: Three Turns
- Physical power boosted / augmented by the power of emotions? That does sound like something straight out of a shonen anime or manga, but this is the world you live in at the moment. As it is one of the other pieces of technology you bargained with the Regent for, it may be worthwhile to investigate it further, and see if there's some way you can actually put this thing to good use.
Hrrrrmmmmmmm

How weird

This kind of functionality is super close to what you would expect from a Bio-Sensor, save for the whole channeling the Ghosts of the Dead bit.

I feel like if we can manage to integrate the amplification bits of this tech with the MMI we can take another step closer to developing the in-setting Psychoframe equivalent.

The MMI is very clearly a rudimentary Psycommu, it just doesnt provide the necessary oomph to brainwaves to make the more advanced multitasking functionality possible.

Hmm.

But if we can Brute force that gap with the empathy booster stuff, we might be able to lean into the psychic-energy sensitive metallurgy line a bit, which I suspect is the key to unlocking Psychoframe.

Edit:

shit, we messed up

Those Fulgrum Particles are possibly compatible with Psychic Tech the same way Getter Rays/Spiral Energy react to emotion or Minovsky Particles enable and amplify Newtype shenanigans.

Damn.

The Nightmare side effects in hindsight were plainly obvious signs of psychic potential blaaaaaaargh

Edit2: Faedium would make for an excellent storage method for psychic energy that we've been lacking, honestly chances are that's what'll make the Fin Funnels work in the first place, just that theyd need periodic recharging non-combat.

But that's a workaround at best.

Like its perfect for miniaturizing a lot of things to cram more upgrades into a frame the same way anti-grav coating does, but....I dont see it being as potentially revolutionary the same way that we need to really push Psychic Energy research.

It makes things more plausible in terms of attempting to exploit Psychic Energy (A constant source of Psychic energy to improve the efficacy of Psychic transmutation, miniaturization to make Fin Funnels work, better MMI performance, etc.) And itll play extremely well with things like the C-Crystals and Energy Shards as well...But its not like some huge leap forward in introducing new stuff unless the manufacturing method unlocks some new interaction with existing forces that hasnt been revealed yet.

So for now I feel like Faedium is a fantastic bridging material we can use to bring a lot of Second Generation Super Robot concepts into being. But I dont think itll reinvent the wheel. Just make the ideas that actually do reinvent the wheel plausible for us.

I mean, a lot of people called early on that it had a lot of Psychic Potential, just that it was more likely to interfere with what we have rather than complement it. Horrible Nightmare entities and Psychics tend to lead to very Bad Things. It made me think of Kankol/Cancer from Betterman.

Though I have to ask I've been thinking on the FAST Pack option more and more, and how it could serve as very good stopgap if we need to have a amphibious option, seeing as we have Zero Naval engineers, as that's a major issue.

So current thoughts are your basic torpedo looking turbines that can mount to our units Mecha forms back, actual torpedo launchers on the arms, I'm thinking a Harpoon for Melee, and an electrified one for a finisher.

The Sledders Tow cables would be pretty amazing in this setup for retrieval and limiting enemy mobility.

Speaking of naval tech/underwater mobility, I wonder if we can create the Scale System from Gundam Seed that can be used as detachable equipment. If we want to take the fight to Doctor Sheol we'll need a good underwater movement capacity.

One of the major advantages of a FAST Pack style upgrade is that we can also slowly distribute a more mundane version to standard forces, in essence giving them a Super Sledder/Jackal/Phalanx/Centurion what have you. Basically a mini-SR Core unit. Not as good as even a Baseline Beowulf since it would lack the various Kaiju and Psychic based tech, but something that would still be able to say, go toe to toe with a Free Brother Drone.

Obviously we'd have to make a Terrestrial version for that, and eventually aerial and Space versions.

Thought occurred to me.

Faedium is probably the stopgap to making the Fin Funnels immediately viable.

Miniaturize them.enough to store Psychic energy bleed off from the MMI, deploy the Funnels for a few Rounds to exhaust the store, they retract back into a frame and proceed to recharge before being deployed again.

If we have that in time for a Perseus Combination form via the Improved Sledders thatd be frighteningly effective. It doesnt even need to be ready off the bat either. It could just be an upgrade we attach after the fact because itd turn that massive, unwieldy Perseus Combination into something with absolutely outrageous Crowd Control capability thanks to the Psychic Theater.

Edit: Like, not even exaggerating

That's the kind of absolute beast of a unit you can imagine wading into an army of lesser mechs and going absolutely apeshit musou game protagonist on all of them.

It'd be a hard counter to Westphalian Shenanigans and even make mass deployment of Drones by the Free Brothers unviable

Just imagine what will happen once we get a Third Pilot for the Perseus Combination. Pop them into one of the Sledders, and let them control the Funnels once they combine.

So, are we basically differentiating/specializing our super robots? Beowulf and co. is the anti-kaiju/single target duel SR, Perseus and co. become anti-army/anti-elite mook config?

Well I have been wanting to outfit Perseus and the Hopolites with Spears for quite a while. You say Thunderbolt, and that's a good name for the base version. I want the Finisher to be Zeus' Wrath.

Do Not Litter

Jonathan Lamaz wasn't one who called himself a scientist. More like an enabler. SOme might say it was a lazy job, but they had no idea how much money, sanity and time it cost to keep actual scientist funded. Boards were fickle and evil like that. Cracking his neck and adjusting his suit, he knocked on the door in front of him. In just a few seconds, the door opened, revealing a grumpy beauty of a woman, if it weren't for the deep bags under her eyes. Jonathan winced. Yikes, if she opened the door that fast, it meant she reached a dead end. Dead ends did not convince the board to pay more cash. He could already feel the future migraine trying to pitch that sale, but thoughts for later. With a smile, he raised the coffee with his right hand he bought from Starbucks. The blonde's eyes widened before she took the beverage and downed it in one go.

"You're my savior."

"I always am, Stacy."

"It's Doctor Obadaiah."

The tanned woman scoffed playfully before gesturing for him to enter. As always, the lab was surprisingly clean compared to the scientist. Many machines that went over his head, pulsating with electricity. His eyes immediately wandered to the glass box filled with black fur, as well as the box next to it, filled with green ooze.

They sure were lucky, to get their hands on it first before the officials of the Earth Union got them. Technically illegal, but hey, finder's keepers. It was quite the event, a mysterious loud explosion that did no damage whatsoever. Heck, the resident expert even claimed that the area was more fertile and healthy than in the last fifty recorded years. He doubted it, but when it came to stuff like that, as in biology and environmental science, Stacy was one of the best. Of course even the best had their limits, judging from the way her shoulders slumped. Still, he had to ask, so he gave her an apologizing look before gesturing at some of the samples scattered around under microscopes and what not.

"Okay, so what do you have?" He asked, sipping on his own coffee before raising an eyebrow. Stacy scratched the back of her head with a helpless shrug.

"Well, the green fluids are a nice fertilizer I guess?" She twirled her hand helplessly at the fur."And you could make a nice protective weave out of the strands. Especially against bullets and general blunt force trauma."

Jonathan shook his head with a sigh. Well, that was niche and interesting to some, but not the 'can deal with one of the many major threats in the world' level of interesting. Then he glanced at her hand and noticed how it was bandaged up. He let out a snort before pointing at it.

"Is that why you broke your finger? Did you seriously punch it?"

"Maybe."

She coughed and blushed a bit, pouting when he began to laugh. Still, his laugh stopped when he frowned thoughtfully.

"Anything else?"

She leaned back, legs crossed under her long skirt before shrugging.

"But both are... I guess in a state of hibernation?" She narrowed her eyes, remembering what they saw."We all saw the explosion. We all saw the aftermath. If this is all those things can do, we would have never seen that forest revive like that."

"So basically we are missing a secret ingredient," Jonathan surmised. He patted the box with the black fur. He could swear it was wiggling as if it was stirring in its sleep. "Any idea what?"

"Aaaand that's the tedious part." Massaging her temples she raised her unbroken hand and began to count off it. "I've been trying out a lot. Water. Sunlight. Electricity. Music. Heck, I even set some of it on fire."

"And?"

"Fur and fluid stir a bit, grow even surprisingly enough, but nope, still sleepy."

Jonathan nodded before pausing. Wait, what was that last one? He did a double take before pointing at the fur and fluids.

"Wait, setting it on fire didn't harm either?"

Stacy nodded, pressing a button in demonstration. The burner activated and began to heat up the black material. Indeed, it actually began to wiggle even more and grew a bit. That was actually useful, if material like that could be grown with natural resources. Handy, no worldbreaking, but at least one argument to keep the research going. Noting his interest, Stacy giggled before twirling her hand at it before deactivating the fire.

"As far as I can tell, I can throw any sort of element at it I want, they don't give a damn." Despite the frustration in her voice, her eyes shone with excitement, her mouth twitching to form an ever so slight smile."Heck, only thing that did any damage was literally cutting the fur with a scalpel!"

He hummed thoughtfully. Weird that cutting was the only thing really harming it. By all means, it didn't make logical sense. If something could withstand getting burned and shocked and punched, why did cutting it damage it? Questions for her to find out.

"So what we have are surprisingly resilient fluids and hair, which can be easily grown, but their true potent abilities are essentially blackboxed," Jonathan summed it up. Stacy let out a grunt before cracking her neck.

"Not for long if I have anything to say about it... " She muttered under her breath and Jonathan took a step back, clearing his throat awkwardly.

"W-what is your next plan?"

"I'm going to throw some of it into super heated rock."

"You want to throw that stuff into lava," Jonathan asked dryly. Stacy waved her hand dismisively.

"Magma, but whatever comes first." She paused before closing her eyes with a sigh. "And probably have to look up some science papers. Exotic energies, conspiracy theories, anything that isn't regular.

He winced. Yikes, she really was reaching the limits of her own knowledge if she considered reading up stuff like ESP and the like.

"I could help."

The scientist gave him a bland look, almost reaching the level of disgusted at even the idea of it.

"Jon, I love you, but you wouldn't know the difference between a scientist having a legit lead and an Onion article."

A bit offended, he threw his hands up in the air.

"Hey, I can throw stuff at you. Shorten the process time."

"....Thanks," she muttered with a small blush. It would've been cute, if it weren't for the liquid nitrogen in her hand as she began to douse both samples with it. Jonathan nodded, about to reach the door before stopping.

"Just keep in mind I can't convince the board forever to fund you. The novelty of mystery around it is starting to run out."

She let out a grunt, acknowledging his words. When he left and she finished icing the samples, she clicked her tongue. Once more, fluid and fur grew and stirred. Nothing else. While a part of her was impressed it was cold and heat proof at once, she wished for something else to happen. If it did, she'd at least have more leads instead of "ah yes, another thing that makes it grown and move, but nothing else."

"C'mon, I know you can do more, what do you need?"

She sighed. Good heavens, what she would give to find the source and just ask it how its body worked.

///

"Huh. Didn't know you could sneeze, Gaius."

A loud grumble sounded, followed by a smack and a yelp of pain.

"Focus!"

"I've been focusing for the last four hours, you fossil!"

They sure were lucky, to get their hands on it first before the officials of the Earth Union got them.
Hey you! That's our gubbins! Give them back to us! We need that sweet sweet Kaiju biomass!

So, are we basically differentiating/specializing our super robots? Beowulf and co. is the anti-kaiju/single target duel SR, Perseus and co. become anti-army/anti-elite mook config?
I mean that makes the most sense to me. If we weren't going to specialize then we really should have just focused on making a full on MP Beowulf and pumping them out.
