I will look a Vulcan dead in the eye and tell them that this isn't a battleship. It's a cruiser.right now humans are going to have a rep for building utterly absurd behemoth battleships who can anchor entire fleets. I suspect as time goes on that will evolve into a reputation for building utterly absurd behemoth battleships and insisting that they are for peaceful exploration.
Hopefully we manage to get to at least 12, I figure that'd provide a solid case for why there were originally only 12 Connie's. Proportionally just as/slightly more expensive, and intended to be a direct replacement. As long as the ship proves itself (which I think it will in spades), I think we'll get to that point.
"We *do* intend this hull for exploration. However, our early experiences with some other spacefaring civilizations have led us to adopt the policy of 'if you take a swing at us, we will swing back and you won't enjoy the experience'."right now humans are going to have a rep for building utterly absurd behemoth battleships who can anchor entire fleets. I suspect as time goes on that will evolve into a reputation for building utterly absurd behemoth battleships and insisting that they are for peaceful exploration.
5 Ships! We must have done great even with the expense. Those torpedo and Yoyodyne rolls turned out well.

This was once at the frontier of exploration, soon it could be so again. The retrospective post could have some cool names as well.
Future project ideas
Stealthy Scout / Courier
System Defense / Patrol & Customs Craft
Mobile Construction Ship (Makes stations/ industry)
Freighter/ Transport/ Colony Ship
Refits for older designs
So, the -2 Engineering phasers dropped us by one point in fleet combat but nothing in standard combat? Makes sense, and it was probably worthwhile to save the extra cost there. We might've actually hit 0 points on the cost grade if we did go all out.Accordingly the Copernicus is awarded maximum points in the standard combat metric despite a reduced armament, and ten out of eleven points in the fleet combat metric for a result of A and A- in these sectors.
The Stingray was already replaced by the Cygnus though?Aaahhhh... glorious. Behold, the first ship to earn the Thunderchild citation of ass kicking ability. May she be the first of many.
Judging from how we handled things in the war era, now that we have a mainline cruiser and a DN/Exploration Vessel hybrid, we would normally make a light ship, yes? The Skate is obsolete now that Photons and Phasers are both available, let alone shielding, and don't get me started on the Stingray - all of our light fleet elements are in the "this will die if an enemy sneezes forcefully at it" range now, and I don't like it. Hopefully, the Pacifist block won't complain too hard if we make a dedicated combat ship - we have the example of the Skate and the threat of Suddenly Klingon to point at, at least. Maybe give it some form of utility just in case?
