[X] 0: United Starship (USS)

The rationale for not using Terran historical figures or cultural references because its "too humanocentric" is kind of silly.

I think it's more the Amerocentrism of USS, something Star Trek made vague claims of having overcome in the enlightened spacefuture... except when it came to "every important Earthside location seen that isn't Chateau Picard". Which is just typical network TV cowardice, of course.

Hell, aping the nomenclature of one of the WW3 military forces that ruined the world is even a touch odd in-universe...

Federation Starship sounds nice and short, I like it. Puts more emphasis on the name of the ship itself e.g.

Federation Starship Cygnet
vs.
United Federation of Planets Starship Cygnet

Never liked the USS- kept thinking about the USA instead

Our little ugly ducking has turned into a beautiful swan.

Three-letter acronyms are the best (provided it can't be pronounced like a word), and UFS is a good one. USS feels a bit too generic and a bit of a stretch (starship shouldn't be two letters).

Not too fussy on this vote tbh.

It's funny though, I was having major regret about not going 4 impulse engines in a big way, thinking that such a minor amount over the budget in hindsight would have absolutely been worth it for the increase in capabilities.
4 impulse, 6 forward phasers... Would have been a combat beast.
But now seeing how much these ships actually cost in this time period suddenly makes it the loss of performance so much more acceptable.
A run of say 8 ships instead of 10 I think would have dramatically reduced the reach of Starfleet at this time.

The Khufu has a short operational range

This is my only gripe. We had the budget for more fuel, but we never got a vote to let us add more to it. If it took up an entire aux slot I don't think we would have picked it, but to be called out on short range without ever having the ability to improve it stings.
