[X] Heavy Shields
While secondary function would be great, primary function is where we REALLY need this puppy to shine.

Well, as far as overall ship numbers go I imagine the bulk of these will be replaced by SanFran's Miranda's (which may actually see never ending production for a decade or two depending on how they do it).
I feel that if we go for 2x forward RFL we're probably going to have something like the Refit Connie torpedo pod, and being a fan of how it looks (to say nothing of the tactical advantages it brings) I'd definitely go for this fit.Twin RFLs forward.
Twin standard tubess back.
That allows the ship to engage two forward targets simultaneously with a 3-torp salvo each.
While keeping an eye on space costs.
28.5 cost.
I admire your optimism! That allows the ship to engage two forward targets simultaneously with a 3-torp salvo each.
Yes, and so we're going to go for an at least 325,000 tonne (ideally 350,000-375,000 tonne) with heavy covariant for maximum shields. This is just bizarre, we want a ship with more shields. It's cheaper to go bigger and achieve that with standard shields. Everyone agreed big ship is where the value is.
I was kind of hoping to take a chunk out of those production numbers for this ship line, but I guess the Big Miranda idea isn't going to be the one taken in this case considering the overall voting.Well, as far as overall ship numbers go I imagine the bulk of these will be replaced by SanFran's Miranda's (which may actually see never ending production for a decade or two depending on how they do it).
The stat sheets for our ships explicitly have a category for multi-target rating.
My WAG is that we are likely to see Miranda: Federation in a 2:1 ratio for the next two decades.Well, as far as overall ship numbers go I imagine the bulk of these will be replaced by SanFran's Miranda's (which may actually see never ending production for a decade or two depending on how they do it).
Personally speaking I feel the floor is probably about 16, that gives us 4 groups of 4 to form the core of multiple fleets when needed and also to cover the Excalibur losses to some degree.
The Callies have 1 RFL + 2 standard tubes for a five torpedo salvo forward, and given the comment abotut their strategic importance in the Attenborough retrospective, I suspect that their 2265 Refit probably swapped out those standard tubes for 1-2 extra RFLs.I feel that if we go for 2x forward RFL we're probably going to have something like the Refit Connie torpedo pod, and being a fan of how it looks (to say nothing of the tactical advantages it brings) I'd definitely go for this fit.
It's still possible, like how 40 Archers got made (overall) compared to the 30 or so Newtons, but this ship should probably be seen more like the Galaxy to SanFran's Nebula.I was kind of hoping to take a chunk out of those production numbers for this ship line, but I guess the Big Miranda idea isn't going to be the one taken in this case considering the overall voting.
Well maybe next time.
Might be a bit on the optimistic side depending on just how big we go with this, of course, SanFran seeing how well our big fat fucks did during the war might inspire them to go above and beyond the call and end up making the ship far closer in mass/capabilities to us than would otherwise happen. My WAG is that we are likely to see Miranda: Federation in a 2:1 ratio for the next two decades.
Maybe 3: 2.
Good point, though depending on advances to torpedo technology it's possible they just consolidated the two into a single RFL.The Callies have 1 RFL + 2 standard tubes for a five torpedo salvo forward, and I suspect that their 2265 Refit probably swapped out those standard tubes for 1-2 extra RFLs.
So yeah, Im going to be pushing for 2x RFLs on this design.
Let's just say that at that point, anything that can facetank a 7-9 torp alpha strike without being crippled or outright destroyed is something we've no business throwing hands with.I suspect that their 2265 Refit probably swapped out those standard tubes for 1-2 extra RFLs.
I think the Klingons have a super-heavy (big, slow, huge guns) coming out in the reasonably near future? As in, a good few decades down the line, but within the lifespan of the Federation class? It's still possible, like how 40 Archers got made (overall) compared to the 30 or so Newtons, but this ship should probably be seen more like the Galaxy to SanFran's Nebula.

Either way, we should definitely build a ship with overmatching whatever the Klingons come up with as a response to the Callie's in mind.
I guess we'll have to see how big a ship they allow to be designed and how much the scaling advantages of that might help offset things. It's still possible, like how 40 Archers got made (overall) compared to the 30 or so Newtons, but this ship should probably be seen more like the Galaxy to SanFran's Nebula.
Closest I can think of is the Negh'Var, which is the largest ship we ever see prime Klingons operate (and also designed with anti-station operations in mind) and that's a century and some change away.I think the Klingons have a super-heavy (big, slow, huge guns) coming out in the reasonably near future? K'tinga is definitely going to be popping up as the D7's successor. And the Klingons may or may not design a battleship if they decide they needed a battleline lynchpin and counter to the Vulcan heavy explorer.I think the Klingons have a super-heavy (big, slow, huge guns) coming out in the reasonably near future? Looked it up, and I was thinking of the Ber'taa, which I'm not sure is fully canon.Closest I can think of is the Negh'Var, which is the largest ship we ever see prime Klingons operate (and also designed with anti-station operations in mind) and that's a century and some change away.
The K't'inga is probably gonna be a lot beefier than it was historically, however.
