[X] Recommend the continued production of the Stingray as a mainline tactical vessel.

This is the option that makes sense. You go to war with the production lines and the fleet that you have, there is no reason to be prototyping right now. We should keep producing Stingrays or NX-type ships. It's not an option at the moment, but more NXs would be excellent. The more exploration ships with huge deflector dishes, the better our chances of beating some cloaks, by genre rules anyways.

The Stingray is basically a glammed up coast guard ship, not something you'd send out to fight if you had a better option.

The battleship will take a long time to build , and we don't have the industry to build many of them.

[X] Advocate for the construction of a minimally expensive combat frigate capable of engaging the small Romulan ships one-on-one.

I think we need a new whole new design here.
Sayle has already confirmed that the combat friagte design will be smaller and less effective than the Stingray. It's just cheaper so we can spam them out.

While I'm not advocating for big gun diplomacy to be our go too, anything less will see us hit harder than necessary

We're at war. We can put out a few extra NX's if we have spare industry for heavy stuff, but really we need more ships in general.

I am curious what our Allies/Allies to be can bring to field.

Well, hell, if there is no possible sensor suite that can help even an iota against cloaks, that takes away the only point I ever saw in the battleship.

Perhaps the new run of Stingrays can be named after less minimally-dangerous animals?

Yeah yeah, "quantity has a quality of its own" but that's not true outside of a truly staggering numbers advantage. Trying to fully go the numbers route against a polity that's been in space longer than us and has an infrastructural and technological advantage like the Romulans is insane. The small frigates would only not be suicidal if we had some sort of ace up our sleeves which we don't.

Weve already got the production lines for these spun up and ready to go, and we're unlikely to get ships that are much better anytime soon, so just spam as many as we can and see what we can do with our leftover industry.

This is a really tough choice. I think the Stingray is at a really good point between cost effective and combat effective, so I am not sure a minimally expensive combat frigate makes sense. A significant portion of the Stingray's cost is in the warp drive, hull, computers, and other overhead things that scale with the number of hulls, not with the combat capability of the ship. Ditching one of the phase cannons and a torp launcher is only going to drop the cost by 4 I think and I think we need something maneuverable so I am not willing to give up the impulse engines.

I am not sure if a battleship makes sense, but it would be fun to make. It would be fun to add a bunch of Atomic Torpedo armed shuttles in launch bays to our battlestar battleship, but otherwise I am not sure how to improve on the NX class in terms of weaponry to make a battleship. I am going to vote for the battleship option because I want to make another ship and it sounds like the thematic direction I want Starfleet to go, but I may change my mind.

You raise a good point, especially if we can make something like a battle-carrier instead of the classic battleship. It's certainly something to bear in mind for a later date, at least.

Torn but I think we also need this in our lineup.
