Out of character, can someone give me a single-post summary of the poison situation? I've been trying to keep up with developments but it's been a bit overwhelming and I think I've missed something. I gather the poison issue is nothing Norse constitutions can't at least more or less handle, but I don't know what the 'golden grass' is and I gather it's not flax or a grain the Norse are already familiar with (we'd have brought SOME seed grain with us, and I think even Erik's seeded a few little plots just to see which bits of his land are best for that, even if we're still relying heavily on hunting and fishing for sustenance, which at a population density of maybe 2-3 Norse per square mile is probably viable for the time being)

Everything we have encountered is poisoned. The animals. The plants. The water. And even Seer magic is failing to negate the poison after a year of it being here, like the poison is adapting to Norse magic - including shapeshifting an other forms of staving it off.

The golden grass when mixed with stuff purifies it of poison. So it's the only way to really 'safely' eat. Without it, we have a couple years because we are hardy adults, but kids will start dying sooner.

Tbh, we seriously need informationals on everything that's been discovered so far. At least regarding the poison in the bananas, IF has said it's just potassium in the discord but I don't think we know that in character yet. Other detected poisons might be similarly natural, similar to how irl apples are actually poisonous, just so mild we aren't affected by it.

I'm fairly concerned that the crabs may not always have been crabs, yeah.
Carcinization is a helluva drug.

And yeah. Given how fast this thing moves and how many revelations we've had that are not in a threadmarked post because they're a scouting report or something, a good 'executive summary of what's happened thus far' informational post would be REALLY handy. And good to start now, while the basic information is still of manageable size.

Moli is in agreement with these proposals.
- The name of our settlement should be Eptirhallr- meaning 'In memory of Hallr'-- to remember Hallr's sacrifice and the fall of Gotland.
-Kare Sky-Dancer would like to propose that Challenge requests can be postponed during an active crisis until that crisis is resolved.
- The creation and keeping of an updated 'list' of current reported threats, so that all can be aware of the dangers lurking.
- All knowledge on potentially dangerous forces or beings should be shared with every member of the community.
- Sigmund Sigurdsson offers himself as living detector of deceit, betrayal, or falsehood for the Thing, owing his abilities to his Divine bloodline.

I don't think the poison will kill us, for the record. It may, however, have undesirable effects. It probably mutates people.

So it's an issue with the soil, then... or at least it might be.

...or perhaps the water?

Gotta wonder if the oni have a clue... or the crabs, for that matter.
Well, it might not be poisonous to them.

(OOC, if it's potassium, a bunch of nonhumans might very well just be well adapted to flush it out through their kidneys, or in the crabs' case whatever crabs have instead of kidneys. Hell, shapechanging to have better kidney function might solve the problem, except I'm not sure the Norse know enough about anatomy to fully grasp that)

How rare are space manipulating items in norse society? Im writing an omake about bjorn waltzing into camp and being smug about the threefold space stomach(trademark pending) he gained from the holeface monster but i remembered that runes can probably do the same.
So is there actually any value in organic, jungle raised and norse harvested bags of holding?

The fact that they don't require blood/pigment to function and you can getting them via the holeface monster(s)? You can stuff something in there without worrying about something going catastrophically wrong from your potential runed bag of holding no longer being powered and you can stay away for them from a long period of time and they'll still be there and working— so long term storage— unlike your potential runed bag of holding.

I'm thinking that we'll want to work to clear out the Thorgarr and Gefjosa land chunks, but I don't think that we can manage that with just minor actions, and Thorgarr really doesn't like the idea of taking large amounts of time away from farming when the settlement is so precarious for food.

Also... do we have any idea what the effects are of land being hills vs fields? I'd assume that fields are better for farming? Thorgarr will probably want to flatten/terrace his own land eventually if so, but that should be doable over time with minors.
Isn't the food situation slightly stable for the moment with the fishing? Establishing a farm plot also seemed to have only costed a minor action, so clearing land for the major then sowing the seeds as the minor could work.

Also, for the poison, is asking the spirits for help an option?

Seems I can't get Space Kunna for right now, so I'll change it out for the Shield Kunna

Done. As are, hopefully, everyone else's stat-ups who's posted them.

The Norse can do that with shapeshifting or a fylgja, but having an external item that does it is, I think, unprecedented, and both Fasts (the shapeshifting option) and Fylgjas have sharply limited items they can hold. It's worth being smug, but in a 'this is neat' way not a game changing one.

Bjorn Drakeslayer hunting report (fearsome hill)
Bjorn Drakeslayer hunting report

Bjorn Drakeslayer steps into camp as the sun is beginning to hang low. He has in tow a smallish looking stomach and his hunting gear.
Hiding his excitement, Bjorn steps close enough to the fire at the camps center so that those there can see him. A few children are spooked by the giant man suddenly appearing next to them.
Once he has their attention, Bjorn begins to take items out of the stomach. First comes a stomach filled with water and a strange tube like appendage attached to it, somewhat like the mouth of a mosquito.
This strange body part should have already filled out the stomach but instead Bjorn begins to draw out more items from his stomach bag: Meat, a thin pelt, a wooden container containing some kind of blood and finally a large rock he had stuffed into the stomach for demonstrations purposes. All the while Bjorn's normally dour face grows a slight grin. By the time Bjorn is finished with his show the bag has disgorged more than twice it's own volume in items.

Once done with his showcase of the stomach, Bjorn begins to tell the tale of his hunt:
"At dawn i stalked into that deathly jungle in search of a beast fit to be our livestock. For a few hours i searched for tracks before finding some truly strange ones. They were as if a duck had left them yet there was clearly four feet at work in making these tracks.
Interested, i followed these tracks till i found the beastie who had left them. It was as the other creatures of this land: Ugly as Hel and just as dangerous. It's maw was like that of a mosquito"

At this point Bjorn picks up the stomach filled with water and points out the long appendage attached to it. "Which it used to suck in water. Firing a few shots close to it proved the creature to be an antsy thing as it sprayed a strong and deadly spout of water at anything which disturbed it" Bjorn presses on the stomach while pointing the appendage away from the campfire, causing water to spew out of it.

"After the beastie had had it's fill of water it waddled off. Following it i found the water spewer engaging another creature, a two legged monster with a hole for a face. Although the holeface attempted to do some kind of sucking attack the water spewer was mightier, destroying the holeface with a single water attack. Afterwards it began to feed on the holeface, draining it of blood" Bjorn once more points to the long appendage.

"Being too dangerous for children to handle and a predator besides, I came to the conclusion it was simply not fit to be livestock. A single well placed arrow slew the creature yet it took affront to it's death and decided to burst, spewing blood, water and viscera everywhere.
I quickly harvested the remains of both beasts, finding that holeface's stomach can store great volumes inside itself.
Sadly the meat and pelt of both of these beasts seems quite poor in both quantity and quality. Hunting them is worthless unless one has need for their organs."
With his tale told, Bjorn deflates and begins to awkwardly gather the things he had taken out from the stomach bag before quickly retreating back towards his shack.

I can agree to that, I'll go ahead and take a major action to clear Gefjosa's land this summer since it's easier farmland. Also farming can just be minor actions so unless you're planning to ramp up your farmland a lot I think you'll be good.
