@theknightofiron @I.F. Ister

So there's fire clay that presumably keeps the ground hot… and we're currently dealing with boiling rain that cooks our plants with heat… and I'm looking for native plants that might have adapted to dealing with heat/this kind of weather… was there anything growing out of or near the fire clay?

sorry no, fire clay as in the material you make pottery and fire bricks out of. totally mundane (but extremely useful) and not magical or on fire

It's not fire clay in the sense of being magical. It's fire clay in the real world sense.

EDIT: Damn, oninja'd (that's an onigar ninja). I'll leave it up for the link.

PSA on Runes
When you write runes, something happens. This is known.

What may not be so obvious is that it happens exactly as it is written. If something is left unfinished or otherwise breaks the standard rules of grammar, well, bad things happen.

They don't always happen immediately. Sometimes they lurk in wait for months at a time. Sometimes you use them and nothing bad happens at all!

And then, suddenly, the magic breaks and things go wrong.

edit: Damage Negation effects are also nid.

Example of Runes you dont want.

"Enemies that touch this spear cannot stop their bleeding"

Who's enemy dog? You're holding the spear, and that guy across from you probably doesn't view you as a friend.

[X] Kare Sky-Dancer's Actions, Winter Year 2
-[X] Major Action: Accompany Anja Giantbone on her Lightning Punching adventure
-[X] Minor Action 1: Scout out the Oni's Quarry from as far away as possible while still getting a decent understanding of what's changing over there, flee immediately if discovered.
-[X] Minor Action 2: Take lumber from my uncleared plot of land and deliver it to Hulfr Hardwood, avoid clearing the entire area and leave some trees for next turn.
-[X] Minor Action 3: create a pair of compasses like Grid's, only using the Void Eagle feathers I found in the mountains instead of using skin with the modified wording being "Will point in the direction to the closest alive beast that is the same race as the beast's feather that is attached to this compass" giving 1 to the general public in case of another Void Eagle attack and keeping the other for myself.
-[X] Minor Action 4: Create a rune inscribed wooden amulet with the words "The wearer of this amulet can never have their emotions forcibly changed by external magic" and "Hostile Magic will not effect my wearer."
-[X] Minor Action 5: inscribe "Arrows shot from me will always strike exactly what Kare Sky-Dancer wants them to" and "Magic cannot turn aside my attacks or afflict others with them." on my bow.
-[X] Minor Action 6: inscribe "After this axe is thrown and hits a target the axe returns safely to the hand that threw it" on the axe of Stigg Drythroat @The Chilly One in exchange for a promise to teach Astrid (Kare's adopted daughter) about Axe fighting.
-[X] Minor Action 7: inscribe "Wearer has triple their normal speed and reflexes" on a wooden amulet which shall be given to Sigmund Sigurdsson @Oshha
-[X] Minor Action 8: inscribe "Wearer has triple their normal speed and reflexes" on a wooden arm ring which I will keep for myself.

Grid vs Void Eagle (Jaguar2234)
Grid vs Void Eagle

Grid Frostdottir soared through the crisp mountain air with her ice wings as she followed the direction of her Rune Compass. The needle twitched and spun between two locations, the mountains to the north and the coast to the east. Trusting her instincts, Grid chose the mountains, believing that the challenging terrain would host a more formidable Void Eagle. As she flew, memories of Gotland's destruction flooded her mind—the fire consuming everything, the panic and fear that had gripped her heart. If only she had possessed her current powers then, perhaps she could have saved her father. The thought fueled her determination, and she pressed on with renewed resolve.

The rugged peaks of the mountains came into view, and soon, so did the Void Eagle. Its massive form glided effortlessly on the thermal updrafts, ice-sweat glistening on its wings. Grid knew her Ice Kunna would be less effective here, but she had other tricks up her sleeve. The Void Eagle initially ignored her, possibly mistaking her for one of its own due to the power of Void Step she wielded. It was a mistake she would make it regret. She activated her Spectral Shield and reviewed her Rune Gear. Realizing the potential danger of using her Rune Wand in this battle, she tucked it away.

To provoke the Void Eagle, Grid used her Emotion Kunna to instill a sense of hatred towards her in the creature. Instantly, the eagle's eyes filled with fury, and it Void Stepped behind her, unleashing a torrent of icy breath. Grid barely had time to react. This Void Eagle was significantly larger and faster than the one she had previously fought. Before she could fully comprehend the situation, an icy blast hit her side, tearing through her defenses. She gasped in pain but remained focused, relying on her Rune Necklace to turn the attack back on the eagle.

The necklace, however, had its own interpretation of "transfer damage." To her horror, it caused her to rip out the wound from her side and hurl it at the Void Eagle. The bird screeched in confusion as the bloody flesh struck its face, momentarily stunning it. Grid, now bleeding heavily, tore off the necklace and quickly froze her wounds with ice. "Damn these runes and their fickle nature," she muttered, grimacing at the pain. She knew she needed time to regroup and came up with a desperate plan.

Grid burned an aspect, channeling her Emotion Kunna to induce a sense of peace and relaxation in the Void Eagle. The change was almost immediate—the creature's furious demeanor softened, its massive body relaxing mid-flight. This was her moment to use her trump card. She glanced down to where her Nemean Lion Flygja floated, standing upon a Spectral Shield and within range of the Void Eagle. With a roar that echoed across the mountains, the lion stunned the Void Eagle, its body going rigid as bliss turned to bewilderment.

Seizing the opportunity, Grid Void Stepped to the rear of the eagle's head, her mind and body perfectly in sync. She then conjured an ice spear and launched it while enhancing it with her Acceleration Momentum Kunna, Wind Kunna, and an aspect. The spear pierced through with a sickening crunch right though the creature's skull, spine, and rear end. The Void Eagle's body convulsed before it went limp, plummeting toward the mountainside. Grid landed beside the fallen beast, her breath coming in ragged gasps. She had done it—she had conquered the mighty Void Eagle by herself, avenging her loss and proving her worth. As she stood victorious, she allowed herself a moment of solemn reflection, thinking of her father and the strength she had gained through her trials. "This is for you," she whispered, her voice carried away by the mountain winds.

[X] Valo Halvarson Winter 2 Action
-[X] Major Action - Sea Rune Stone Project (I have too many ideas and feasibilities for it to be all on an action)
-[X] Minor Action 1 - Being to lay a stone foundation for house expansion.
-[X] Minor Action 2 - Set up second basic Smokehouse
-[X] Minor Action 3 - Net Fishing, by simply waking into the sea and catching fish underwater. (Taking Spear with me)

Hey everyone, I can now add runes to things, if you want something inscribed then let me know and we can work out a deal, you can either come up with the wording yourself* or you can ask me to do it for you after some describe what you want.

*If you mess up your wording and the runes backfire in some way I will not be held responsible.

Ragnar, or perhaps his wife, must prefer I spend more time at home; for they have given me no small amount of work!

[X] Alyssa Worldwalker's Actions
-[X] (Minor 1) Familiarise myself with these interesting new frogs.
-[X] (Minor 2) Take wood, fastener and other materials required, and work with those necessary, to build an egging frog habitat on Ragnar's lands.
-[X] (Minor 3) Create hunting snares out of vine rope, and place them appropriately about the Clan's lands to catch small game.
-[X] (Minor 4) By request, try my hand at constructing furniture out of wood and furniture, for Ragnar's house.
-[X] (Minor 5) Continue helping to guide and teach the natives (names?), while practicing my rudimentary knowledge of their language. Help teach them Norse, if they wish to stay here permanently. Take particular interest in what sort of animals the native peoples have domesticated, what sort they fear, and what they believe are good luck charms.
-[X] (Minor 6) Make or acquire a native good luck charm. Even if it doesn't work, it's a nice memento.
-[X] (Minor 7) Talk to the unruly door we captured, learning more about their past and how they came to be here.
-[X] (Minor 8) Take care of children. Enlist them to help me with various activities, although, in truth, correcting and explaining their mistakes certainly takes more time than doing it myself. Work with Ragnar to teach these children Norse etiquette, most of all- no more near family feuds! This part is very important!
-[X] (Major) Using my newfound knowledge of native animals, set out into the woods to try and capture and break in an animal the village has either so far overlooked or not yet considered, with priority given to means of transport, or to creatures that are good at guarding places.

(Uncertain quite how unveiling mine spirit animals goes)

Livestock Report
Gunnar returns from his latest expedition dragging a truly massive cow behind him on a lead, floating it through the air. As he lands, a goat with curling Iron horns pops out from behind him, and deposits the corpses of two flathorned Onigar on the ground.
"Friends, listen close, for I have discovered that the Onigar possess livestock in the form of great cows, such as the one behind me. I discovered these two leading this cow through the mountains, having myself gone there following the general direction of the Bat-Cow that was discovered, from some place they referred to as the 'citadel'. The larger one claimed that he had a buyer for the cow that would earn them twice as much 'Kas', presumably their currency, as if they had sold her at the Citadel, though shortly after their discussion was interrupted as they detected my scent, and I engaged the two. The small one I killed with a javelin to the skull, following which I engaged the larger one in melee. He smashed my shield, though failed to break my arm along with it, and I cut his legs out from under him, before finishing him with a thrust up through the jaw. Powerful as their blows may be, without armour to protect themselves felling them was a simple task."

Per IF on Discord, any complete damage negation from things like runes is odreng, so runes revised slightly, since Ragnarr certainly wouldn't make that mistake in-character. So, updated actions.

[X] Ragnarr's Actions, Winter Year 2
-[X] Major - The Quest For Stone. Ragnarr is going to gather together an expedition to burrow downward and see if we can find stone in the depths of the earth (we expect we may also meet rattock doing this). Details to be determined based on participants.
-[X] Minor 1 - Spend extra time with his son, teaching him to fight, especially Glima, but also how to better avoid escalating confrontations in general, and to not come across as bossy. Spend time with his family in general.
-[X] Minor 2 - Attempt to repair relations with Erik, see if we can work on the kids getting along better.
-[X] Minor 3 - Assuming the Egging Frogs are hatching soon, take one clutch of eggs for his farm and help Alyssa take care of them, make sure the rest of his family helps as well, and learns how.
-[X] Minor 4 - Harvest 1 Wood from Steinarr's plot as long as he doesn't object @Ulvlar
-[X] Minor 5 - Spend significant time helping Hulfr make shields and armor, specifically adding runes to the items in question. Even more specifically "When those not my wielder harm me, they too receive that harm." on the shields and "Blows that would harm my wearer do only half their normal harm to both my wearer and I." on the armor.

Minor 2 can be considered completed if Erik doesn't come back this season. Ragnarr would probably still try it if he does.
