Blackhand,

1) Do you know what would happen if I were to give Odr to my child as they are being conceived?
2) Were you considered a Steelfather yourself?

'Four! Not a one was unbloodied by the end of it!'

'I'd... I'd like to think so, I guess... Next question.'

'A proportionally scaling one. It
will be strong enough to kill you.

The question is... can it kill you
and everyone else, while dealing with the sheer fuckery you've prepared for it?

That's one of The Enemy's most insidious traps. The easiest way of surviving the response is to be extremely weak at the time of divulgence, but if you have odr in any considerable amount — which is needed in order to learn it in the first place — then you are very strong indeed.'

...huh.

Okay, that implies two possibilities. One, the response is automated. It's possible the Enemy isn't really sapient, but more of a ghost-echo or Evil Computer Program. Or the attack is tied to our nature. Maybe it summons Dark Halla? Dark Halla couldn't kill Sten and Steinarr though...

It might also just be due to the Enemy's known limits on information. It knows us because opening the Gate reveals ourselves, but it doesn't know what's around us. That's... Somewhat questionable given the coordination involved in the Foeman/trollmen attack.

It does mean this isn't something we can power level out of. Allies, guile and memey Batman-prep time are required.

Blackhand, is it possible to incorporate a part of the weapon into ones own soul?
'I hope not.'
1) Do you know what would happen if I were to give Odr to my child as they are being conceived?
'I don't know what happens, but if it gave them access to odr... then they'd be targeted by The Enemy. I decided that I wouldn't induct anyone into this war without their consent.'
2) Were you considered a Steelfather yourself?
'I was not.'

Idea for a future life: Convince our new host to repeat our words in front of the whole family. I doubt the adults present will have trouble dealing with a threat meant for a child.
Once, Sigurdr had wished for his mother back.

Now, he still does.

Just for very different reasons.

'Hey, hey Siggy. Siggy.'

"What, Halla."

'Go say it.'

"I'm not doing that."

'Do it! It'd be funny! It'd be great, so funny.'

It just occurred to me we'll be cursing one of our kids to have their mom peeking out their eyes for the rest of their life. Not sure if Halla is gonna be getting many grandkids.

Hey Blackhand, is the Weapon the only thing that can kill a Steelfather?
'No, but it is the only thing that can counter the Curse.'
Hey Blackhand, what does the Curse of Steel do?
'I... that's not right. I seem to have some kind of mental block around Steel's properties.'
And does the enemy try to suppress steel making?
'I don't think it cares.'

Knowing Halla, she's going to be couching them through it.

yeah, Halfdan the black is the son of Harald Fairhair, who ruledfrom 872 until about 930, so who knows how that works in Norsequest time.

Oh wait, are we at the point in Norsequest where Halfdan the Black died? Erm.

The timeline is fucked and it's not going to get any better.

(also, other way around. Unless there are more repeating names, that is. Seriously, two Haralds with two Ragnhilds? wtf)

interesting news.... on so many front. I am not touching the dwarfs and the eggs they farm deep down, but the ducklings using sunlight underground is worth keeping in mind, if we find a lot of weapons that store/create sunlight.
'Wax tablets are perhaps the single worst surface to record runes on — save for dirt, dust, and sand.'
So, we cant just get a dirt/earth hugreida or a normal trick that creates furrows/trenches and make working, big runes during fights to mess with the enemy, huh? sad.....
'I've only seen her like that once before, when she was grieving over the corpse of her father.' A prickly sensation tickles the back of your neck. Turning around, you lock eyes with Kolla, the Seeress' daughter, as she stares from a tent window. 'If I had to make a guess, I'd say that she has something to do with it.'
So, Korra's father is dead?
....Damn, whats up with this pattern?
The corners of her eyes twitch as words spill from between unmoving lips.

"Ironjaw just killed Rainmaker."

Blackhand gapes, his 'eyes' bulging in your mind's eye. 'I... what...'
Oh.... i wanna say The Enemy used Ironjaw for making sure no steelfather can get free of the curse, but thats too paranoid.
'Steelfather of the Jomsvikingar, one of my killers. If Rainmaker's dead... then Ironjaw now has a piece of the Weapon.'
And we need to slowly gather these pieces....
And by Blackhand, Ironjaw will want to test the mettle of anyone wanting to talk with him....
And notably, even in an incomplete state, it's still enough to kill a Steelfather.
As was mentioned, Ironjaw looted the piece, though, he could have took it in battle and killed Rainmaker with it, i guess?
I have a stupid question: how exactly are we going to prove this stuff? We don't have pictures, or videos, or such. Is there a magic equivalent?
Per WoG/QM, there will be rituals and such for truth telling/lie detection.
I assume they are standard for every Thing.
Yeah, I get the feeling that getting Horra Outlawed isn't the problem, it's revealing the sheer scope of how much he's been fucking with everyone while hiding behind his family relations that makes the final confrontation easier, because we gather more and more allies for each individual piece of Critical Evidence we found.
Snowballing, huh?
....Shit. We are both at the last steps of our plans (for this arc, at least)....
A lot of people have had different win conditions for your lives but my rule of thumb is if you manage to get a piece of The Weapon or not. If you do, then you've made actual progress.
nature of the quests, yeah. i think an universal one is to make a good foundation for the next generation.
To be precise, Blackhand said Ironjaw earned his respect for "rejecting steel". The idea of a Steelfather, who has incorporated the curse of Steel by definition, rejecting steel, is a contradiction. General thread assumption is that means he is Steelfather power level but not actually a Steelfather, which may or may not be true.
Iirc, Jorsnvikingars are the most influental Norse warcamp....
hm.... there is a though...
Blackhand, is it possible to incorporate a part of the weapon into ones own soul?
i do not thing its a good idea.... unless w can make it inheritable to the degree of Born of Fire.
...huh.

i mean, it needs to be cowering the whole Norse cultural sphere, and probably beyond too in other cultures.

wait....
"Hey Blackhand, Is the respons tied to the one telling about Odr cultivation or everyone involved in the event?"
It just occurred to me we'll be cursing one of our kids to have their mom peeking out their eyes for the rest of their life. Not sure if Halla is gonna be getting many grandkids.
Not necessarily... we just need to survive well after they marry/lose virginity.
Knowing Halla, she's going to be couching them through it.
oh noes.... Wait... Did Blackhand also...?
...At least, we can get out a kenning out of it.... *Looks at Casanova...*
'He's dead?! What?!'
That IS a good question... there was that time on the explosive rune's description bringing up Black man's end...
yeah, Halfdan the black is the son of Harald Fairhair, who ruledfrom 872 until about 930, so who knows how that works in Norsequest time.
wait.. i though Fairhair is just going to start the shitshow? I remember IF bringing up a lot....

I'm planning on pushing that back a little bit, as I think it works well with the chaos of the Jomsvikingar upheaval.
oh noes.... Wait... Did Blackhand also...?
Blackhand stays out of that one. He's not exactly happy being there either.
"Hey Blackhand, Is the respons tied to the one telling about Odr cultivation or everyone involved in the event?"
'The first.'
So, Korra's father is dead?
That is one interpretation, yes.

Different people

Do the wax tablets serve as like extra training dice? If so, we should get all eight, right?

Blackhand knows the Enemy True Name but can't say it without attracting its attention, right?

So wat if he reveals it to us in a more indirect way? Something like revealing a letter to us every day until we can figure it out for ourselves.
