[X] A pouch of unknown seeds bristling with dangerous potential.

The difference between poison and medicine is dosage.

Let us try and cultivating the seeds. Not necessarily in our soul first.

Yeah, we definitely don't want to put something like that in our Soul until we know roughly what it does.

And also, the Hearthroot alone is going to demand what few drops of Odr we can condense anyway. At least until we've figured out the rest of the trick to cultivate it on purpose.

Aki's reaction is interesting though. He seemed convinced that what Gabriel did should have killed him. We should bring him in on our experimentation!

I've just realized, all weapons have a spirit...we need to give Stigr Wanderlust. He's primarily an archer, sure, but a sword as a backup is still good, and easier to carry as such than a spear, and the sword, given its name, can't be happy hung over the mantle while we stay home and will be much happier with him. We probably also give him some other stuff, but that's the thing that leaps to mind.

Aki's reaction is interesting though. He seemed convinced that what Gabriel did should have killed him. We should bring him in on our experimentation!

This is one of the three actions I have planned for next turn, pretty much. Because yeah, we need his insight there.

And yeah, apparently what we did was "Skipping a step", while Jerasmus gave us a hint that we should probably start with each individual Aspect first.

Oh.

OH

That might be it. We're trying to effectively create a single weave with two seperate weaves at once, of course it falls apart once we stop pushing reality hard enough at it

That's not what we should be doing. We need to first unravel our Aspects and turn them into thread first. Those threads might have an easier time sticking around, since they're not Orthstirr anymore in that state.

It's basically a meditation method when you think about it. We make thread from our Aspects--one at a time--then when we're actually condensing Odr, we weave those threads into a single weave. Instead of just brute-force shoving them all together. Aki might have more clues for us once we ask him about what's going on though, since he seemed to recognize what Gabriel was doing and that it should have killed him. Like how we almost died from the first time we Condensed Odr.

I think the cat is a Mao Gui, demon cat servant made by sacrificing a cat. Does not like humans and is fully capable of being set on someone. How dangerous it can be seems to be a toss up from being a thieving cat to actively causing misfortune to eating your organs. Horra may not expect it, but I am not entirely sure it would actually kill him.

We'd need to figure out how to control it, which seems tricky. Horra also has some ability to compel spirits and I'd be very concerned about it being sent back against us. Like, if correct this does seem useful, but likely not against him specifically without taking undue risks.

Halla trying rosebud opening to the sun meditation sounds... fun.
The flame and the void might work, though.

It's why I think it's important to have other people check what happens when they reveal the Gate. For Halla, it manifests as a woven ring, for others, it might be different.

And voting is now closed, little late on my end whoops
Scheduled vote count started by Imperial Fister on Apr 17, 2023 at 7:04 PM, finished with 85 posts and 15 votes.

@Imperial Fister I spotted two very minor character sheet errors/corrections:

1. I think we should have 2/3 progress on Goal-Tell. We got two successes on the roll to start it...unless one got expended on something?
2. We should definitely have 28 Management dice due to only -8 from Maintenance with the change to Storehouse.

Ope, I just remembered that I said to ask me my favorite xianxia/cultivation story once the vote was closed.

It's Thunderbolt Fantasy.

Which is some good shit. Like, unironically excellent. Got all the best parts of the genre while having none of the bad, as far as I can recall.

Hah!

So, which one of the Collection of Swords That Are Hard To Deal With did we just pass up on?

Inspired by, to be clear. I wouldn't throw the actual 7BD at you, that would be ridiculous. That thing is pure fuckery.

But something like it? Something in a similar vein? Absolutely.

Hah.

I feel bad now, a Demon Sword would be pretty neat. But we can still make cute sword friends for our kids, and it's probably for the best.

EDIT: Maybe we get a demon plant instead?

Winter 5/Turn 2.2
The Seeds
As the smoke and falling shards of stone-turned-dust clears away, what's left of the meteor is a simple bag of... paper? At least, that's what it looks like.

Sliding down the hillside, you pluck the bag up and pop the seal. Peering inside are a quartet of black, spiky seeds. They seem to pulsate to a steady tempo, like the beating of a heart.

Somebody shouts out the question on everyone's mind. "So... what is it?"

"Seeds!" You reply, meeting Stigr's gaze as you hold one of the four up for all to see.

They seem.... unimpressed.

So are you, all things considered. You'd been hoping for a cool sword or maybe some kind of spirit. But seeds? What use are the-

You're an idiot, you're a moron, and above all else, you're a fool.

You're a farmer. All Norsemen are.

Sighing, you pocket the seeds. Guess you'll have to plant them to figure out what they do... hopefully the fruit isn't as evil as the seeds look.

Shrugging, everyone turns to go home Before you leave, however, Aki stops you.

"Gabriel should be dead," He says as blunt as ever. "Seriously, if you could see what I saw, then you would be fucking flabbergasted."

"I don't know what that word means."

"Doesn't matter." He sighs. "Look, he hit every single trigger in that maze. Every single one. But literally — literally — moments before, the flow of power or magic or whatever changed direction. No warning, it just happened."

Aki is rather out of sorts. His hair is frazzled and his breathing is quick and shallow. "I don't know what I just saw, but if something like that could be harnessed for combat, you'd be utterly unstoppable."

"I'll... I'll keep that in mind." Gabriel might be more dangerous than you gave him credit for...

The next morning, the Wizard-Owl hoots happily as it places a sack on the ground next to you.

With raised brows, you hesitantly open it to reveal a small dagger. Well, not really a dagger. It's very solidly a knife. Sized for a young child's hand and no larger.

As you pick it up, you note that it feels... strangely warm? Like you'd left it near a fireplace overnight. Frankly, strange as it is to say, it reminds you almost of something sleeping. Or rather, snoozing.

Odd, really.

Shrugging, you pocket the knife and get started with your day.

Anyway, did a review of Year One. And it does seem like Swords are extremely prestigious to have. I think we might get some Lore about why they're so expensive compared to other weapons if we start studying the Sword Crafting Trick with Sten. There's 'Prestigious' but that alone shouldn't trigger a more than 100% markup compared to other weapons of equivalent value.

I really want to follow up on this though! It's interesting! Could we squeeze in some training for the Sword-Forging Trick next turn? Weaponcraft is actually almost at rank 4 too.

EDIT: Holy fuck, Bird Gacha making up for lost time I guess. 19 successes and Maximum Relevance even.

Also, holy Fuck, Zeal is apparently a straight up "Whatever I'm doing, I Succeed by way of a Fucking Miracle." Definitely don't want to back Knights into a corner then if they can start whipping Zeal empowered moves out.

Apparently too, we've gotten our example of a Living Tool though. Was this brought on by our current line of discussion @Imperial Fister ?

meanwhile is gabriel's mind

Anyway, Research!

@Imperial Fister , quick question, would planting a single Test Plant be something we can do even in the winter?

Because these things? They're not poison, they're demon plant seeds. And I want them to be our friends! Shame that the meteorite didn't leave any interesting materials behind aside from that though, was hoping we'd get some Sky Metal there :(

This should be 33d6 by the character sheet, and my own math.

I mean, some of that is also just the higher amount of Iron involved. A spear or axe is 12 oz. to the 18 of a sword...even without being prestigious, that'd up the price by 1.5. And I'm not against learning to make swords, but I feel like learning to make cheaper weapons first makes sense, like a Sax...or learning how to make an atgeir so we can reforge Sagaseeker.

Damn. That's definitely a new research topic. That makes...I think five of them (weaving one aspect at a time, cultivating our plant, the bible, our new 'work knife', and examining/maybe planting the seeds we got). That's eating a lot of dice this turn, but does seem necessary.

Yep, that baby knife might know Interesting Things!

So, more Odr for our plant.

Also, rather than Weaving, let's try to convert our Aspects to Thread, one at a time, and see if individual Thread is better at holding together until we need it or at least can be separated enough from our base Aspects that we don't fucking die burning it.

If individual Thread can last, then we can weave the individual Threads into a single Whole, and see what happens, giving us that step of remove that we don't risk sacrificing ourselves for power.
