@Imperial Fister three important questions for planning next turn (I'm deep in planning mode already, I admit...whichever of the items we get here is probably a research project and I have some dice set aside for that):

1. How old is Drifa now? Is it time for her to start receiving combat training if she were a boy, and would Sten object to us training her?
2. Can you in fact use a sax with Cut and can we thus increase our Combat Pool by buying cut now that we have one?
3. So Stigr indicated he's definitely leaving his farm...would offering him a specific job be an action, and would it be inappropriate or what? We certainly can't object to him going raiding (and indeed, would suggest he go in the same felag as Jordan...there's a family alliance there since Jordan's gonna marry Asva and Eric's married to Stigr's sister), but we'd like him not to leave for good.

Blind votes are the worst.

But I'll stick with the sword I think, because you straight up said "Ask me what my favorite Xianxia when the vote is over" when the sword was brought up, which makes me think that might be the most Interesting option.

Seeds have obvious application, but given the implication, they're probably hella poison, which is just a no-go and is going to be a gigantic research pit in order to figure out an application of it that isn't Nid.
I mean, most poisonous plants have some medical uses, though it is true that researching it would be a huge time sink. Well, it is also likely that they are the usual man eating plants of xianxia, stabbing someone to death with your roots ain't Nid right?

I mean, technically no? That's just a weird Hugareida.

(Look, is it wrong that I want one of our kids to have a cute ghost/spirit friend to hang out with them as a familiar-slash-partner who is secretly born of evil origins but through the Power of Friendship and Family has become good? It's probably influencing my mindset here)

Approval vote is allowed right? Damned sword voters convinced me

[X] A pouch of unknown seeds bristling with dangerous potential.
[X] A sword like a lover's touch, bundled away in cloth.

Hope it is a cute cursed sword-chan

You can consider me dubious that we'd be able to redeem a spirit like that quickly enough for such a spirit to be deemed 'safe' for the children to grow up around.

1. How old is Drifa now? Is it time for her to start receiving combat training if she were a boy, and would Sten object to us training her?
I believe she is around 6–8 ish. I'll admit that I haven't been keeping very good track of her age. Sten would not object to Drifa learning how to fight properly, at least once she hits 9 or 10.
2. Can you in fact use a sax with Cut and can we thus increase our Combat Pool by buying cut now that we have one?
I mean, since you already have a weapon that can cut, it already increases your combat pool. Saxes can cut, though they're not great at it. Like all Norse weapons, they are power attackers in nature.

Stigandr means wanderer. You can't keep him pinned down, not forever.

But you can try to convince him to stick around, at least for a little while. And he's not going to leave for good.

As for the ghost child discussion, that is a potential outcome, though it is one that would require some real shenanigans to pull off.

clicks tongue

Damn. My cute childhood spirit sword friend for our next protagonist has been cast almost out of reach.

I guess I'll just have to cope T_T
I mean, you do have all the tools and people you need to pull it off, you just need to, well, figure it out.

Heck, I've even given you a hint waaaaay in the beginning on how such a thing might be done.

Uh, how far in the beginning are we talking here?

I know that Sagaseeker is definitely, uh, awake and aware to some extent, but that isn't quite the beginning. It's cat level, not childhood friend level.

Pretty far. Before Year 2, I believe.

All Norse weapons have spirits. It's just that the spirits of atgeirs are especially active.

If you had ever messed around with one of the swords that Steinarr brought back, or picked the sword from the Manor, then you would have felt something weird, something off, like something was missing.

... Hrm. Sounds like Odr would probably influence the creation of a fully awakened Weapon Spirit. After all, the difference in whether a soul is "Alive" or not is whether it has Odr within it.

That's interesting. I wonder if the spirit becomes more aware as it sees more use/gains more orsthir by association? It would be neat for Sagaseeker to become a family heirloom and develop full sentience or something...

Interesting info on the Cat in China.
Article:
Above all, the Chinese believed the cat to be a mystical creature that had unfathomable spiritual powers. The Emperor Wen, during the Sui Dynasty in 598AD, believed that his brother-in-law and his mother had used cat spirits to cause his Empress to fall ill. At the trial, a female servant testified that the brother-in-law's mother had regularly made sacrifices to cat spirits encouraging them to murder the rich Empress. If killed by a cat spirit, all the possessions of the victim were inherited by those who lived in the same house as the spirit. The brother-in-law's mother had coveted the Empress' riches and jewels, and by persuading the cat spirit to haunt her, she had hoped she would die. In an unexpected act of kindness, the Empress took pity upon them and spared their lives, but consequently, the Emperor exiled all those who summoned cat spirits.

She was 4-5 when we met her in Year 3, so 6-7 now sounds right, but that's still too early for training. Check.

Cool. That's definitely in the plan then. I think that may be the last low-hanging fruit to raise our combat pool, so we should take advantage.

Fair, I'd mostly just like to ensure that he comes back to our place when he comes back (and ideally, on a mechanical level, helps out with Management and Training dice while he's here). I hope that's already covered by the actions we've taken...

This does make coming up with an appropriate gift for him harder, though...not much use for livestock if he's going off a-wandering and we don't have much in the way of spare combat equipment...we could just give him money with an admonishment to buy himself armor and some good melee weapons, but that's admittedly a bit impersonal.

I'm planning on letting it roll over to the next hour, so in 30 minutes, before calling it and writing the follow up.

Sweet. That should include Winter's Wizard-Owl acquisition...I'm interested in what that'll be.

Should probably get a trick for poison resistance if we get those seeds, maybe Campfire will have something. Maybe campfire has something for resisting curses as well.

We were told Campfire could have a cleanse poison/disease Trick a long time ago, and it's definitely right near the top of the list for Campfire Tricks we're aiming for. The other big one is something that protects against hostile magic, which also seems to me to be within its area (not, like, conjured spears or something but magics with less overt physicality seem within its domain to oppose, I'd think).
