I feel like just filling the entire ship with a bunch of clay would be fine. It takes more time to get places, which means more chance of dangers. But dangers also mean Orthstirr. And it seems like having more time zoomed in on travel is actually good: it will give us more time to bond with our crew and make some allies with people.

We do have a bit of a time limit here...not a huge one, but enough that nearly doubling our travel times (from 5 days per leg to 9) is potentially problematic, especially with additional side trips potentially on the itinerary. Going from 5 to 7 (what should happen if we almost but not quite fill the ship) is a lot more manageable.

I just started a reread of Runemarks, which is probably my favorite book based on Norse mythology. And now I really wanna write a quick story crossing over between it and NQ. will definirely be interesting.

mostly I need to think how to combine the magic systems, since runes are much more fundamental in Runemarks.
though Since Runes are only usable by the gods in Runemarks that can be an explanation.

It does feel a bit odd that this guy knows us by name. I mean, we're famous, but I'm not sure we're that famous.

Regarding the cargo, we gain a lot of XP from being aboard ship. I don't have a huge problem with our journeys taking a bit longer.

True. Maybe I'm overly worried about going into next turn...

@Imperial Fister, what's our total free cargo capacity at the moment?

Based on the answer to my question, we should have 2900 free.

Okay, people have talked me into it, here's the Full Hold version of the previous idea.

[X] Plan A Restful, Healing, Cargo (Full Hold Version)
-[X] Purchase 1000 units of Healing Clay (1000 oz. silver, 2000 Capacity)
-[X] Purchase 450 units of Restful Clay (56 and 1/4 oz. silver, 900 Capacity)

[X] Approach Asva, tell her we need to talk somewhere more private (from the crowd, not family), and once there tell her, as gently as possible under the circumstances, that Steinarr was killed. After she has calmed down, assuming she needs to and does, tell her what this trip is about and that there are other things we can discuss later as a whole family.

Sounds good to me!

I mean, Orthstirr is kinda a glory stat alongside being our power stat. We are only like 400 off from where Steinnar was. We are kind of a big deal, even if we don't really feel it generally.
Keep in mind that he had like twice that in his prime.

He suffered a lot of Orthstirr (fame) decay over the years and his rather spectacular death probably jogged a lot of people's memory

That's true. But doing a very rough Fermi calculation from our valley power rankings, there should be something like... some number in the hundreds to low thousands of people in Norway at roughly our level of Orthstirr or higher? And then probably very roughly a similar ballpark in Sweden and Denmark.

We're definitely a Big Fish, but unless this guy has a mental rolodex going of basically every person above a certain threshold, it's odd that he acts like we're especially notable specifically. Admittedly, having a mental rolodex of thousands of powerful landowners might be extremely useful when you're a Norse merchant, and something that he can do through the right Skill-Tricks or Hugareida. But it still seems slightly incongruous; he talks about us in a way that implies he's recently been told about us.

Of course it's also possible that he's heard about us from the fact that we announced ourselves in the Jarl's hall and is just laying it on thick with the flattery.

I feel like, at our level of Orthstirr, as someone who's lead raids/trade missions, we're a name people have heard. Whether we have enough fame that he's heard much about us is different, so I think he is buttering us up, but the Jotun riddle thing and being a woman who led a successful expedition recently both seem like the sort of thing that gets you vague name recognition pretty widely.

We're a tad more stand-out and memorable than a lot of other people with the same accomplishments due to the 'being a woman' thing if nothing else.

That's a good point, Halla may be considerably more exceptional due to her gender, and also due to her parentage and lineage. A trader like him might also pay more attention specifically to stories of notable characters who've led trading expeditions recently, and selling a large cargo to King Alfred of Wessex may be quite a feat as trading expeditions go.

So what do they actually do? Like we know what cooling clay do's (it cools thing down) and its pretty straightforward to assume that healing clay heals (as an aside how dos it compare to our sedir heling?) but what dos resting clay do?

I ask because depending on what it do's we might want some for personal use.
Hey @Imperial Fister I think you missed my question.

"Halla?! What're you doing... Here..." The joy flees Asva's face as she lays eyes on yours. Though you tried your best to hide it, you never could from her. "It's Dad, isn't it? He's dead."

"Y-yeah," there's not much else you can say.

"Gods dammit," Asva screws her eyes shut as her breathing quickens, the swear leaving her lips as quickly as it came. Rather than break down in tears, though, her jaw stiffens as her eyes open—sharper and fiercer than any you've seen before. "Jordan," her shell-shocked husband straightens up at the word of his wife, "Take Asveig, I'm going with Halla for a moment."

"Y-yes," Jordan's nod is stiff and jerky as he gingerly takes his daughter from Asva's arms. "Will you be okay?"

"We'll see," Asva says, eyes fixed forward as her brows furrow ever-deeper. As her husband nods and steps away, she calls out a parting phrase, "And you'd better stay off that leg!"

Huh... Now that she mentions it, Jordan does have something of a limp to him...

Catching your gaze, Asva shrugs it off with a slight grimace, "A witch tried to seduce Jordan and put a curse of feebleness on him when he refused. I caved her skull in with a pan, but the curse lingers still."

You take an involuntary step back, "I..."

Asva steps forward, her eyes fixed to yours as you scramble away, survival instincts kicking in at full force, "You're here not only to tell me about Dad's death, but to offer Jordan and I his farm, right?"

"How did you...?"

"Two reasons," she holds up a pair of fingers. "Neither Sten nor Eric are farmers and you already have a farm to manage, which leaves me and mine as the only option lest the land fall to disrepair. Given how close you and Dad were, there's no way you'd ever even think of that being an acceptable outcome after all of Dad's hard work."

"You're... Taking this well..." That's the wrong thing to say, but you just can't help yourself. What happened to the girl who refused to climb trees?

"Halla," Asva's stare is like steel, "I was the one who cared for Mom when she died. I was the one who made sure Dad was clean, clothed, and fed every day until you and Sten broke the curse. Compared to that agony?" She laughs, cold and empty, "This is a walk in the park."

You take another step back, "I-I'm sorry."

"If you want to apologize, then fix Jordan's leg. Otherwise," she starts walking towards the ship, "let's get inheritance sorted out."

...Gods, you really miss Blackhand. He'd have such a succinct way of summing up your thoughts right about now.

With the final part of your day, what would you like to do?
[ ] Search for the Slavic fur traders

AN: Not much to say here.

No moratorium.

Well. That certainly all tracks with what we know of Asva, yeah. I assume there's no vote for helping Jordan because of course we do that no matter what.
