[X] Accept the job
[X] See about selling the Cooling Clay and see what exotics or oddities are currently available on the market.
-[X] Enquire about what bulk goods are currently cheap here and might sell well in Uppsala.
-[X] Use Silver-Tongue.

"Cooling clay, eh?" Johannes brushes some crumbs off his silken shirt—remnants of some oddly sweet bread-thing called a 'cake'. "Hedeby isn't the market for such cargo, given that it sits upon manifold beds of myriad clays. You'll have more luck selling that in Ribe, Roskilde, or Uppsala than you would here."

"Drat," you frown and lean back in your chair, the cake's flavors still playing across your tongue. "I assume, then, that clay is in abundance here?"

Johannes nods with a gleaming smile, the motion setting his jowls to quaking, "Indeed there are, young lady! There are a total of three different clays that Hedeby dredges up from the depths—clays of the cooling, resting, and healing varieties, to be precise."

"I'll keep that in mind," you nod, thoughts already turning towards your coming journey to Uppsala. "Are there any exotic goods currently in market?"

At that, unfortunately, Johannes' lips curl into a frown, "It's a bit early in the year for much to come our way, you'll have more luck when the cold starts coming in." He does, however, prod a finger in the general direction of the south, "Though, there are some Slav fur-traders here from Holmgard who had some rather interesting pelts, perhaps they've any left?"

"Slav?" You tilt your head at the unfamiliar word.

"Vends," Johannes clarifies as he calls for a refill of beer, "one of the peoples who live in the east, alongside the Kurir and Kylfings. We occasionally have some trouble from Slavic raiders—mostly of the Pomeranian sort—but nothing too terribly dangerous." He chuckles to himself, "They may very well indeed be responsible for my lost shipment."

"Speaking of your shipment," you say, clearing your throat, "do you have any idea where it could've gone?"

He snorts as the requested thrall tops off both his and your own cups, "I had runes of tracking placed upon the Sea-Snake, the ship my associates were using, and the last location that it gave me was in Wolinia, on the continent proper. I'll send a man who knows the way with you." He waves one of his guards over, "This is Haggar Worm, he's fought the Vends many-a-time and will be able to guide you to where the Sea-Snake was last seen."

Haggar Worm is a gruff man with a thin, lengthy nose. He doesn't seem especially pleased to be given this task, but offers no complaints. He offers a hand, which you take, "Haggar Worm."

"Halla Sunshine," you return his greeting before turning back to the conversation at hand. "I'll be sure to get your money back, Johannes."

Johannes smiles, "I expect nothing less from the great Halla Sunshine."

7816 Units of Chilling Clay (1/16oz Silver per 1 Unit, 1 Unit = 2 Capacity)
5732 Units of Resting Clay (1/8oz Silver per 1 Unit, 1 Unit = 2 Capacity)
1,002 Units of Healing Clay (1oz Silver per 1 Unit, 1 Unit = 2 Capacity)

As you're walking through the city of Hedeby and thinking on what to do next, you catch a shock of familiar black hair amongst the crowd. Following your instincts, you pivot on the spot and press through the masses of roving people.

Pushing through the crowd, you arrive just in time to witness Asva, Jordan, and their newborn daughter share a cold drink of some manner of juice.

They haven't noticed you yet, which gives you the initiative here.

How would you like to handle this?

@Imperial Fister have our crew unloaded any of their cargo here and at what threshold are we so loaded we take longer to get places? Basically, how much Capacity worth of cargo can we buy before we're overloaded?

Knowing that heavily effects what goods we want in what quantity (not Cooling Clay, obviously, but buying a bunch of the others and trying to sell them in Uppsala is plausible).

I also have no idea how to tell Asva what happened. I'm not at my most creative today.

A third has been freed up

As for your second question, once you hit half-weight it slows you down by a day. Once you hit 3/4ths, it slows you down by another day. If you're at max, it slows you down by an extra two.

probably just greet her first? we can say why we came later, when we are in a more comfortable, and private, location. you don't just spring it on them like that
not sure how to greet her though
@Imperial Fister is someone of our crew/friends/family with us rn? or are we by ourselves? that could matter.

and wasn't Asva's hair black? what red hair did Halla spot?

Check. Okay...I think an extra two days on the next leg are probably fine, but 4 would be excessive, and with the reduced amount from the crew, we have 2900 Capacity free, technically. We could do, like, 2800 of that and be fine.

The question, then, is what cargo do we actually want to try and sell in Uppsala? We could go heavy on the healing clay in the hope it sells for more, being rarer, but that's a bit of a gamble, or go with the much cheaper varieties. I'm honestly not sure. We can definitely afford even the most expensive version of the plan, though.

The plan for the biggest gamble is probably:

[] Plan A Restful, Healing, Cargo
-[] Purchase 1000 units of Healing Clay (1000 oz. silver, 2000 Capacity)
-[] Purchase 400 units of Restful Clay (50 oz. silver, 800 Capacity)

There are a lot of less extreme plans, obviously. That said, they don't have Healing Clay back in the Hading, so I'm pretty sure we can sell it for at least what we're buying it for here in the vicinity of back home if nothing else. Dunno if that's worth the gamble, my intuition on our last plan was wrong, so I dunno. Anyone else have thoughts?

Hm... clay beds for resting and healing huh? interesting...

Surprised beautiful didn't counted, but it wouldn't have changed anything.

Is Worm still with us when we see Asva?

Alright, in the absence of other people posting ideas, here's mine for the purchase plan and for talking to Asva.

[X] Plan A Restful, Healing, Cargo
-[X] Purchase 1000 units of Healing Clay (1000 oz. silver, 2000 Capacity)
-[X] Purchase 400 units of Restful Clay (50 oz. silver, 800 Capacity)

[X] Approach Asva, tell her we need to talk somewhere more private (from the crowd, not family), and once there tell her, as gently as possible under the circumstances, that Steinarr was killed. After she has calmed down, assuming she needs to and does, tell her what this trip is about and that there are other things we can discuss later as a whole family.

I can easily be talked out of the first and someone else's wording may be better for the latter, I dunno.

—clays of the cooling, resting, and healing varieties,
So what do they actually do? Like we know what cooling clay do's (it cools thing down) and its pretty straightforward to assume that healing clay heals (as an aside how dos it compare to our sedir heling?) but what dos resting clay do?

I ask because depending on what it do's we might want some for personal use.
