Let's all sing the "it's a trap song"!

Its a trap it's a trap it's a trap trap trap.

Possible, but I think the likelihood of it being a trap properly calibrated for people in our power bracket is fairly low. We wanna be careful, certainly, but I don't think this being a serious trap for us is super likely.

Fair, it would just be a very funny coincidence (is there such a thing in Xianxia?). 'Why hello Halla. Nice to see you again. As you can see, I am once again a slave. Isn't that riveting?'

I feel like that could totally happen if he's one among many slaves we free or something like that (a result I think would be interesting...we could recruit some people), just not in a way where he's our only option.

Also I'm trying to make a pair of proper exalted sheets for Halla, and god. I forgot how long it takes to make an exalted PC. Nearly 200 pages of charms to read through!

Yeah, Exalted is a difficult system to create characters in. In any edition. I'd be tempted, but I honestly don't know what kind of Exalted she'd be...the bloodline alone could be Terrestrial, but given the Norse shapeshifting, animal traits from the fylgja, and Odr providing something beyond the norm, I actually think Lunar might fit better. Solar is also possible, especially given her sun motif.

Third. And I'm pretty proficient at making characters for it, it's just a lot of bookkeeping.

I am making her as a fire aspect personally. I think it fits with this being a Bloodline quest and the themes of heredity best, though like most fictional characters depending on what traits you focus on she could be almost any exalt type.

It doesn't help that I'm making two sheets for her. One at 16 as a 'starting' character, and one 'now'.

I will at some point make a Flying Circus version of Halla. Obviously it'll be quite different given she'll be a WW1 fighter ace in a Studio Ghibli-inspired fantasy version of Germany, but I think you can still capture some of the essentials. Picking a Playbook and Mastery is interesting to ponder though. There are arguments for Farmer or Witch, but she feels more like a Farmer who picked up the Cast a Spell move from another player or an NPC.

By the way, @Shard, eons ago I think you pinged me with some stuff that needed adding to our Ideas Folder? I completely forgot about it at the time, but have been meaning to go back through and edit it, so if you could find that post for me and link it, I'd be much obliged.

Just poking this one for a moment:

1) Infusing one of our Hugareida Shroud with Odr, see what happens (test with Clearwater since it has the least potential for Bad Things)
2) Try inverting Hugareidas other than Standstill and see if we can get an interesting result. Test the 'inverted' Hugareida away from us while our Shapeshifts are on full DR since it's probably going to yield dangerous stuff of some kind. Ignition -> Icy Implosion??? Campfire -> Chill????
3) Try seeing if Alloying an Inverted Hugareida outputs a different result from alloying a non-inverted Hugareida.
4) Alloying Punching Up and Against the Odds. Low odds of something useful, but might yield something interesting.
5) Try Alloying Fight of Your Life with the Stoker State. If Stoker Dice can recharge Fight of Our Life that would be great. Low odds since FoYL is an emotion-type Hugareida and Stoker state is a momentum-based Martial Art but worth a shot.
6) Try Alloying our Fylgja with our Hamr. Potentially dangerous but also potentially very useful.
7) Try Alloying Minds Eye Blink with Banish the Night - Potentially always on anti-illusion effect?
8) Test out the effects of Odr on Mire Ward (More slowingness???), Contested Movement (Bonus dice????), Fortify (overlayed over the Orthstirr - More DR?)
9) Probably good idea to test out what Perfected EWF (can we use EWF to disengage as well?) and Kindle Spinner (can we shoot out variant kindle spinners that have bigger AOE but less damage, no AOE but more damage, etc) do.
10) Alloy Tenderizing Roast with Housecraft and see if it makes us an amazing cook, Alloy Forgefire with Armor/Weaponcraft and see if it makes us a better smith (unlikely but worth a shot IMO)

I wonder

If Gabriel comes around again, do we tell him or do we let him challenge us first?

His promise to kill our father is kinda moot now.

There may be other way to encounter einherjar than visiting Asgard. It would not surprise me if legendary Norse warriors have a bit more freedom of movement in the Quest's setting, and might sometimes be sent on missions across the various realms by the gods. It may also not be necessary to convert or die to visit Asgard as a mortal Christian cultivator, although I'm sure it would be an extremely perilous journey and make our little sojurn to Ginnungagap look like a day trip by comparison.

I'd like to go visit Gabriel ourselves. We made all that effort to get the king to approve of Viking mercenaries. Let's go make use of that!

Hey IF how expensive would it be to learn weather or not we can discuss/share cultivation secrets with other Odr Cultivators?

100% agreed. We combine this with visiting our people in the Danelaw, maybe collecting some for the 'Kill Dorri' plan if the timing is right, and hopefully returning our Latin teacher to Christendom. Probably do more trade and mercenary work while there.

We need one more trip to Wessex and the Danelaw before the quest ends, narratively speaking. Probably after Vestfold and before the War Arc.

Hm.... Just a thought, but we could drop in for a visit with the relatives in skane on the way back.
Edit: I mean on the way back of this trip, not the future one to England.

The biggest reason I think we should tell Gabriel as soon as possible is thst we know enough about his cultivation style to know that it is slow. By pushing himself to grow faster, by going hard on advancing quickly he was damagimg.himaelf and it led to bad things and loss of control. Knightly cultivation doesn't seem like it's mean to let you grow I'm particularly fast ways. Not safely.

He almost certainly has been pushing himself similarly to match Steinnar. Maybe even pushing harder than he was when he still lived with us. He wants to be able to take his revenge and he's pushing for it, we know it.

And I'd be sad if he ended up causing more permanent, irrevocable damage in the name of a revenge he could never have gotten to begin with. Imagine him crippling his future prospects to kill Steinnar and then learning Steinnar had been dead for years?

It'd be tragic.
