I'm inclined to accept the job. We are only agreeing to bring back his money and he isn't asking us to do some in specific way so he is basically giving us a freehand so long as he gets his money back. Maybe there is a twist to it, but we just need to find an honourable way for Johannes to get his money returned.

Seems legit. I don't like working with slavers, but needs must and the actual job seems unobjectionable for the most part.

I don't think we want new cargo yet necessarily (though we do sometime) but we should at least see what we can sell this for.

Nothing too wrong with getting the money back, and hey, if he's lying to us we can just break his kneecaps.

I agree with selling the clay, but this is also us, the thread, being asked what we are interested in purchasing by the QM. Personally, I don't want to buy normal stuff unless we are looking for something specific we can't get at home. What I do want to look at is rare and interesting stuff that might be useful to us or add more tricks up our sleeve. Metaphorical tricks that is not necessarily literal Tricks.

This seems correct, yeah. Adjusted my post to vote the same.

Not exactly jazzed with working with slavers either but we can make it clear that they'll be freed once Halla has learned Latin and offer to take them back to where they're from if it's feasible. Maybe even a contract of sorts so it's more of an indenture? That's not much better but it's something at least. And yeah we might as well unload the clay.

My own thought is that we free him pretty much immediately but offer him a place to stay, maybe some wages, and a ride home once he's done teaching us Latin if he's willing to do that. I doubt he'll get a better offer than that, so he'll likely accept. Details definitely depend on circumstances, though.

Would be good to get rid of the cooling clay and have a full cargo hold in our next destination.

There's also always a chance we might get to kill some slavers, depending on how things turn out.

Finding a Latin thrall is good. I don't think it's going to be simple to learn Latin from them though. Jeramus flat refused despite liking us a lot and generally being a nice guy who wanted to spread knowledge.

I wouldn't assume just getting the thrall will be enough to get the language. It's just the starting point.

I don't think just saying 'you're free, but I need a tutor, so please teach me Latin and I'll pay you' is going to exactly be enough there.

Jerasmus does not want to spread knowledge. He wants to spread the Faith without spreading any knowledge that would be the least bit dangerous to anyone in Christendom. He actively prevented Gabriel from telling us anything about Carolingian cultivation to the best of his abilities and otherwise showed himself to be a very canny long term planner with an agenda.

Which is not to say that learning Latin will necessarily be easy...I'm more noting that he's not necessarily a very representative sample of people who know it.

Mmm. Fair enough, no reason not to check. Added.

True. That would be fairly nice. If they have multiple thralls we could potentially free any others as well, maybe recruit some people.

These are decent points, and it may not work out... but it's worth a shot I guess?

If we want to maximise our chances, I think it would come across as much less suspicious if we say that we'd like a tutor for the kids, and maybe even give him the impression that we're curious about converting. The last one really depends how duplicitous we're comfortable being,, though.

Hm... What is Denmark know for, tradegoods wise, again?

I think picking up some of Halla's traits which they didn't inherit (or Abjorn's for that matter) should be a chargen option for whoever we pick as her successor. Not for free, obviously, but an option.
Hm... We didn't really picked up any other of Steinar or Asveig after the initials were chosen, so, wouldn't really be like chargen, especially if we already roll for them while Halla is the PC.

We don't want to actually be deceptive, including making even vague noises about converting, but I'd be comfortable saying we had a Christian friend and would like to know more about their culture. That's all true.

But really, it depends heavily on who this guy is and what he's like. Or she, I suppose, though it sounded like the order was for a man.

We also had 4 years to gain Muna and Hugareida before we hit 16 on Halla (and gained Traits in that time as well), and neither Steinarr nor Asveig were particularly inclined to teaching their Traits from what we saw, while Halla would teach Speaking Out Of Law to every kid if she were physically capable of it...the second round of chargen is gonna be fairly different in a few ways for reasons both in and out of character.

Doesn't really matter, though it'd be neat if we could borrow a young nun for a while and teach her that "Hey, you don't necessarily need to conform to gender roles unless you want to, if you're driven enough."

I want to infect them with cute lady knights down the line.

Start them early on producing Joan of Arcs? Great idea! In the next quest we'll have counter raids from the French.

Ah yes, Christian Asgeirr rises! We will win out! Mwhahaha!

I deadass expect it to be Jeramus again somehow. He went traveling and ended up a thrall. Again. In a completely different part of this continent.

Given we know he wouldn't teach us Latin and this adventure was the result of a successful roll, this seems unlikely barring weird intervening variables. Wild goose chases that don't achieve our objectives should not generally be the result of high rolls. Like, this could happen, but it's probably not the thing we're going on an adventure in regards to unless there's a lot more to it.

Fair, it would just be a very funny coincidence (is there such a thing in Xianxia?). 'Why hello Halla. Nice to see you again. As you can see, I am once again a slave. Isn't that riveting?'
