I just don't really get how you'd turn an axe blow into fire. However, that's fair. I'll say that it turns all damage (except normal) into Fire Damage

Well, the idea was that it wouldn't turn it into fire damage physically, just make the armor react to it as if it were fire damage (ie: apply its fire resistance). I don't see why that wouldn't be viable conceptually considering some of the other things Runes can do?

Like, make the armor as resistant to all damage as it is to fire, to phrase it another way.

.... The fact it's called "Carbon Flour" and the Dwarves have what's also termed "Egg Iron" concerns me greatly.

Okay, so, here's a plan. There's a last minute substitution of a second Standstill Training Item, since I do think we need one to double dice if we can. By last minute, I mean I dunno what it should be...anyone have any ideas?

[X]Plan Training Items
-[X](Crafting) Try to make something (1)
--[X]Forged Iron Wood Axe (+15 successes from Tools/Workshop)
--[X]Add Runes saying "May my use chopping down trees teach how to chop down men." - Hopefully a Training Item for Chop
--[X]Use beaver bone ash if we can get some
-[X](Crafting) Try to make something (2)
--[X] Forged Iron Chain (+15 successes from Tools/Workshop)
--[X] Add Runes saying "My links tighten granting stillness, may those who feel my grasp understand that stillness and through understanding be freed." - Hopefully another Standstill Training Item
--[X] Spend 5 Odr on the Runes

-[X](Crafting) Try to make something (3)

--[X]Sten and Minna
--[X] Invite them to help us with building our sauna, and use that as an in to get them talking about what things were like in Finland.
--[X] Build a cool stone archway over the entrance like we wanted to try out, with Runes saying "Lifting steam, life-filling,/Warmth wears away weariness./Heated house, healed body,/Mind moving clear as water." (adding 1 Reward Dice courtesy of @Skippy.)
--[X] Have a big sauna party with everyone when the sauna is complete.

--[X] Another Standstill Training Item, maybe a Wand?
Standstill is all about stopping forces, is there some way to use that energy from the forces stopped to boost ourselves? Maybe something like a chinese finger trap where the more force put into it the stronger it gets? This is all just wild speculation.

I don't think Halla has the background for that example specifically...but I like where your head is at. We definitely want to aim for something like that if possible. A wand is a fallback, and not a great one since we lack a sympatico material.

Maybe a lasso? Snare traps are probably a thing here, and a throwable one isn't too big a stretch imo

It'd need to be a chain to take advantage of our forging skills...but a chain is not a bad idea. I'll tentatively add that.

IIRC we only get Sten bonus on 2 things a turn, and we have Axe and Vehicles this turn, so I think there shouldn't be a Sten bonus here?

He always gives the bonus to all skills, plus up to 2 Tricks. At least that's how it has been historically.

Replying to myself because I just realized one of our Standstill abilities is a good example of what I'm thinking of, as in using kinetic energy for effects. Mire Ward has us sacrificing our own kinetic energy to cause pushback on anything trying to move in the area, which is why we have to remain stationary.

Uh, really? I was under the impression that Halla couldn't move during Mire Ward (beyond using her arms and what not) is because she lacked the mastery to make it move with her. Which is why we'd eventually be able to move with Mire Ward if we perfected it, iirc.

That could be the case honestly, that post was mainly me hyperfixating on a theory that also ties into the whole Power Requires Sacrifice law of Norse cultivation.

I don't believe we've been told we could move with Perfected Mire Ward...it would just be free, meaning we can effortlessly drop it, move, then reinstate it.

Hm....
You know the feeling of getting stuck in mud?
Where pulling your feet up results in suction to the mud, making it much harder to get it out?

Training item would be a container containing mud.

He opens his mouth, which then shuts as the clever glint of greed shines in his eye. "Legally, I am not allowed to divulge the details of Carbon Flour." So probably finely ground coal.
If Halla knows what carbon is, that shouldn't be hard to reproduce.
Mill a piece of coal like one would mill grain.

"Legally, I am not allowed to divulge the details" -> A dwarven secret. Probably smithing.
Using it like boneash when forging bog iron would be an experiment to do... But how to justify without extensive metagaming, when Halla hasn't experimented with Bogiron since getting Forged Iron.

Also we should ask Sten about it. He did something with black powder coming from Stones a long while ago (the thousands of steel arrow tips trick in the fight against the boss of Trygg and Traustis original felag).

I think a chain idea is better. Tying people up with a chain is also a valid Standstill construction, and the item is more directly involved. Still no real idea on Runes, though...

Sten will almost certainly not teach us anything about the manufacture of Steel.

Sten will almost certainly not teach us anything about the manufacture of Steel.
It may have non-Steel uses.
And keeping Sten in the loop means he would warn us if we accidentally get too close to making Steel (rather than Forged Iron/other interesting things)
