Yeah definitely.

On the other hand, giving Abjorn a belt might prove to be feasible in the long run if only because he's so huge his belt would be that much bigger and thus have room for more runes.

One reason to realize the Book is so we can start feeding it other books. Just the image of aghast Christians watching us feed Bibles into the thing to empower it.

So, some questions IF, if you do not mind.
Glowstone Spirit Trap

-Doorway Ward: A spell that places a barrier around the doorway. When hostile spirits approach, they will find the door locked and barred even if otherwise appearing open.
Can these also be used in our souls?
And can we put them on the gate as well?
-Identify Concept: A spell that quickly rifles through known things to identify what a potentially unknown thing is.
By the description, this should also work on our items that our owl brought/found for us?
-Banishing Rebuke: A spell that forces hostile spirits and spells away by sheer power.
Can this be used to brute force exorcise nidheart?
'I don't recall. I know that you can track down where someone's fylgja stores things in the fold between worlds, but I don't remember how that is done.'
Interesting....
'I believe that that is one of the most common Twists out there. Often acquired from seeing or killing someone for the first time.'
"Hey, Blackhand, did you ever heard of a way to reliably get specific twists?
Or specific Hugtridas, for that matter?
I remember you saying 'Live and get new experiences' as a general rule, but I am kinda curious...."
We definitely need to make Abjorn's armor somehow share his DR, otherwise it basically doesn't do anything, relative to it's price.

f it's Realized we can put Runes on it. This seems like something Runes can do if we come up with the right wording.
Something something "I grow with my weilder/master/kin and by sharing the burden we shall overcome it together"
Rough idea, and would need constant feed, but for a passive one is good enough, I think, before realized items come to play....
Perhaps mix the user's blood into the paint?
The Enemy didn't get to take a swipe at Halla immediately after she figured out Cultivation
Just a minor nitpick:
The probe attack came when she broke into first realm, not when she started gathering Odr on her own.
Odin's protection still works until then.

Almost immediately after showing up to the Seeress' tent with Aki in tow, Kolla emerged from her shadow-cloaked corner of the tent—nothing you or the Seeress did ever managed to get Kolla to lighten up a little bit—took one look at Aki, thought for a moment, and then nodded to herself.
Courtship rituals between Seers are Just Different.

Can this be used to brute force exorcise nidheart?
True Nidheart can't be exorcised.

False Nidheart can be.

When making the book for disclosure, do we want it to be for anyone to pick up? Also do we want to make a glowstone trap built into the book?

So aside from Dwarf Fortifications, Allies, Equipment, what other ideas do we have to stack obscene amounts of advantages?

We know Seidr can make magical defences, so we'll want to look into and emphasize that.
We can probably also use Odr-Enhanced versions of Fast Folded tricks, possibly even purely Odr based Tricks, since if we're doing Disclosure we're very much in do or die.
We might even want to like, stock up on bomb boulders, as well as other Rune-Boulders with their own effects. More generally, one time consumables like a ton of runic arrows for Stigr and so forth.
We might want to look at traps like the Gluepit traps.
We might want to see if we can Rune up the place even further, look at stuff like 'can I store up my blood in advance for superpowered large scale runic defences'.
We could consider cheesy tactics like starting off the fight with a Finale off the bat and stuff that is as unfair as possible.
We need to look into the timing of the Disclosure, since as a Dwarfmade Fort it would be Weak To Sunlight.

Stack the deck in a very specific way and the Enemy will begrudgingly let you go unchallenged—depending on the circumstances around the Disclosure

...

Come to think of it, if we've got Ironjaw doing overwatch--hypothetically at least--the Enemy's not going to bother throwing their own dudes at it if he's in good condition. Because if it could kill Ironjaw at a price it was willing to pay, it would have done so long ago. He's already Initiated and probably further along than any of us, so he doesn't add additional "Budget" for the Enemy to work with like it would someone like Steinarr.

Presumably this applies to any similar Peak Figure (Any Steelfather grade that he didn't have hooks in, hypothetically). There's a certain point where the Enemy just can't throw enough firepower at the table to justify stopping the initiation of some baby cultivators. Mind you, if you were to do this on a massive scale, it would actually grit its teeth and pay the costs because the alternative is having a repeat of the Fleshcrafting breakthrough or something similar.

...

And we just set things up for Ironjaw to potentially Show The Fuck Up in the Vestfold Arc. By getting his daughter hitched to our friend who's going there.

In other words, the very best tool to Initiate is having a Sect Elder on hand who already knows the Secrets, but that the Enemy can't justify the budget to kill for what they're handing out. Presumably, this is how Steelfathers train their inner circles.

There's some irony around The Enemy wanting to murder the shit out of the Gods' Children (Humanity) because they're related to the Gods, when by principle of descent, it's also basically killing it's own descendants.

Incidentally,

If we decided to get access to Seidr by, you know, replicating what Odin did - Hang ourself upside down at a tree, sacrifice an eye, etc - Would that have actually worked?

Also, IIRC, Odin gained access to Seidr via Runes - Is Initiating into Seidr via Runes possible?

Hallbjorn
-Animal Lover

Hallbjorn is best Boy!
Talking to the Seeress + Introducing Aki to Kolla (How well did they hit it off? 94+6(Reward Dice, curtesy of Toboe)=100, lmao)
Very satisfying.

Aki barely had time to yelp as Kolla was already dragging him from the tent.

The Seeress watches her daughter leave with Aki in tow, a slight frown on her face. She clicks her tongue against her teeth as her furrowing brows add more wrinkles to her face, "Kolla is getting to be about that age..."
The Halla school of dating. (well, after the initial awkwardness for Halla)

Also, one of two ways how I Imagine Drifas lovelife will go when she is old. "Yeah, He will be my Abjorn!*yoinks him by the arm*"
Pebbles crunch underfoot as the Seeress appears at your side. Her eyes glow with the power of her Sight, her gaze fixed to that dot in the distance.

"It would seem," she begins with a reserved tone that cracks the longer she talks, "that Kolla has decided to elope. When you go to Vestfold, I will be accompanying you."

She pivots on the spot and marches off to her tent.

'Well,'

Shit, you finish for Blackhand.
Aww, puppy love.
Also, Aki will probably have use for both effects of the horn before we visit. lol
Also also: Ally for Vestfold expedition received!

HAHAHAHA

OKAY!

I guess we got Aki a cute waifu! Mission Successful.

Anyway, I really don't want a fight right now. We've had one virtually every turn for a while. So I'm not keen on double-tapping this right now, unless it's weak enough to be facerolled without a combat sequence anyway.

[X] That it comes to life, but does nothing
Nah, a cute waifu got Aki. But agreed that Mission Successful.
It helps that Aki's a very thoughtful boy... Which honestly might be exactly why Kolla went. "Mine", if she's completely exhausted of the usual Norse Bravado nonsense.
Very understandable of her.

Also looking forward to hearing from her when we reconnect with Aki.
Undoubtedly.

We can probably be more than a speedbump to him. Not in a fight, obviously, but reintroducing him to his old friend Blackhand in the head of Steinarr's daughter sounds extremely distracting.

Blackhand to Bram (via Eyetalk): Bro!
Bram to Blackhand: Bro?! *gives Blackhand/Halla a brotherly hug*
Bram, talking to Blackhand while nodding to Aki: Bro?
Blackhand (&Halla): Bro!
Bram, now giving Aki a friendly/family hug: Bro!
Everyone except Bram Blackhand and Halla: Whut?
I don't think High Seidr can be taught without being Initiated, so I doubt that'll work. Low Seidr works because it's ultimately an Orthstirr weaving that generates the trace amounts of Odr needed to fuel it, High Seidr directly involves using Odr to bribe biddable Spirits that you've beckoned to you through one method or another.
If we look at the tracking via strand of hair ritual we used, the spirit bribed itself with the fraction of an Odr generated when it enters through the gate.
So that for example should still work. Non-Odr initiated just would fully understand how/why.
The Trial of Contest:
All Norse must have the strength to defend their homes, be it from Troll, Beast, or Foe. Strengthen the Body, Sharpen the Mind, and Enrich the Spirit--when the time comes, one must march out into the world and overcome a Worthy Opponent in fair, honorable contest. Only once one has shown the ability to defend the Home can one be called a proper Adult

TL;DR: The Trial of Contest is how we gate the minimum Orthstirr needed to make much progress in Odr Cultivation in the first place. You will note that it's ambiguous about what form that Contest takes, only that it be fair and honorable against a Worthy Opponent (So that you don't pick a fight with a Troll Man or a random Christian peasant and call yourself a badass). This is equally satisfied by killing a Troll as it is seeking out a renowned gamesmaster and defeating them in a public match. The point is getting out in the world and having your Name be heard, which generates the Orthstirr you need to get much use out of this. It doesn't need to be to the Death either, just that you challenged a worthy opponent in your field and came out on top.
Or require 3^3*3= 81 Orth and 3 Drengskapr (net).
(Could be the Trial of Character)
Gets the Orth and prevents Horra deciding to do one honourable thing in his life to get that power.
The Trial of Learning:
All Norse are Cultivators, this is a truth that all hear, but not all understand. One must familiarize themselves with the arts of the homestead, the crafts of the household, and know how they all come together in the carving of Civilization from the Wilds. To this end, one must study the Blackhand Codex, and glean from it the secrets held within. Only one who can derive enlightenment from even the simplest of tasks can earn the right to compose their own Saga.

TL;DR: This is the purpose of BOOK, to effectively hide the steps of Cultivation into a book filled with wisdom on farming, the maintenance of a household, and the proper role that Norse Folk should take to live a good life. Only someone who can Read Underneath the Underneath has much of a chance of getting very far.
Cool, alternate name for the codex: The Black Page Codex.
Could have the gimmick of black pages, pages singed so you need an eyesight trick to be able to read. (Said trick being part of the normal contents, of course)
The Trial of Courage:
All Norse must have the courage to face death, for it walks hand in hand with us at all times. When one has shown themselves to be a defender of their home, and mastered all of the steps to make it thrive--one must be willing to bet their life to take the First Step to our birthright. To risk everything they have earned for the mere possibility of greater power. For to seek to awaken and take their First Step is to court death, and one who is not willing to offer their life as collateral to the Nornir will go no further.

TL;DR: The actual Initiation, which as we know, is doing something incredibly fucking dumb by common knowledge--but if you understand enough, and have learned well the secrets of the prior step, then you can survive the Initial Opening, and become initiated as a Saga Establishment Cultivator. This is basically just formalizing what we already knows happens when you Open the Gate.
Could also be Trial of Risk (like a sacrifices value can be from value (give something expensive/emotionally meaningful), effort (in Game: AP/trainingdice), skill (the sacrifice is an action requiring skills), or the name of this step: Risk)
That trying it could kill you adds value to the action.
All the preparation you did to not get ganked adds value.
All the skills you learned to do it add value.
And with the sum of that value you buy power.
All things considered, I think this is a fairly good format of what we need to set up a Formal Cultivation Initiation System. It's not mandatory and you can step off at any point and still benefit from going through the steps, but you can't take that final step unless you're willing to bet your life for even the possibility of greater potential. Which is true, because even if you succeed, you're now part of the Shadow War by definition.

What do you all think of this as a framework?
Also General note, getting Seers into true cultivation and passing the secret along to their apprentices and few warriors (and other professions) they deem worthy would be insanely valuable. Spreading the knowledge to make it harder in the enemy. Spreading it sparsely so it is in many places but nowhere (yet) with great concentration -> No chokepoints for the enemy to nuke.
Sweet. We definitely want to do that for him, then. Probably as a Yule present next Yule, so not for a bit, but a pair of Drafty Iron Saxes seems like it'd be sweet for him.
We'll also want to pass on the 'channel trick through weapon' knowledge (and for that: Recall trick) when we start arming our Huskarls with special material weapons.
