Hutt Crime Post-Black Sun eradication/Post-Ciaran intervention
The final destruction of the Black Sun has indeed paved the way for a large scale expansion of Huttish influence as the one organisation capable of competing head-on for millenia suddenly wasn't an issue anymore.
The following things have changed:
1. The Hutts are covertly expanding their blackmarkety in the CIS territory, exploiting the backfoot they are on ever since the Caamas Ceasefire and the death of Sev'rance Tann. On the other hand they actively avoid making any overt attempts to expand their influence stronger into Republic territory than they did before to not endanger the treaty Borvo (actually Ciaran) organised. Doing so would cause issues with both the Republic and Borvo himself, as the later has considerable interest in maintaining the treaty. In general they employ a 'watch and see' stance due to the war shifting the landscape too quickly for any active attempts at powergrabs aside from expanding the blackmarket by leaps and bounds.
2. Due to the war ruining most trade in the Galaxy that doesn't run through CNS territory as middleman smuggling activity has increased a lot and any respectable Hutt has of course increased his efforts in that regard.
3. The Hutts greatest opposition after the destruction of the Black Sun is paradoxicaly the Black Sun, or at the very least their legacy. While nobody in their right mind wants to reform them their remnants have splintered up into a lot of new gangs, several of which are backed by the Faleen. Having to deal with dozen small gangs instead of one very big one causes a lot of unpredictability the Hutts have to deal with.
4. Slavery is losing popularity as criminal activity since both the massive slave liberations post Huk-Kaleesh war and the more recent expansion of House Benelex in combination of the Trandoshan slavers getting hunted down in their own home system have both reduced the supply of slaves and the availability of slavers themselves. On one hand slave prices have risen a lot, but on the other hand the various slavers are worried that they spontaneously get hunted down and shot.
5. Borvo was on the ball the fastest when it came to exploiting the disappearance of the Black Sun as he with the aid of Ziro the Hutts former assets quickly snatched up a lot of the Black Suns remaining 'businesses'. At least those that weren't taken over by the Abyss Watchers. As result he is now one of the most important Hutts alive and quite popular.
6. The Hutts, despite their superiority complex and unwilligness to ever admit it, have taken lessons from Ciarans rise to power as many have scramble to exploit the Clone Wars to get an in on various legitimate businesses as silent partners and investors to supliment their income with legal sources that would not be endangered by the Law or gang warfare. Some younger Hutts meanwhile go even a step farther by attempting to build up a less shady image/reputation for themselves, taking a lesson from Ciarans and Borvos approach to business and Ciarans public persona. Achieving something in two decades what others need centuries for doesn't lie.
((
@zup There you go. Honestly, no matter how much of a superiority complex they may have, seeing someone rise from Bartender to leader of second largest Criminal Empire and destroyer of the Black Sun in only two decades must have had A LOT of impact.))
