Depends on when it actually splashes. If it only happens in a clash it should be fine with a bit of training to work on our blocking. If it happens every time we swing it, that's going to be a bit more annoying.

You know, with the lava crystal's properties, I would suspect it would be more suitable for use in projectile weaponry than melee weaponry. Much safer for the user, and gives you the blaster version of a grenade launcher.
Sort of like what Chewbacca did with his bowcaster?

Using the Lava Crystal to make a special type of blaster does seem to be the safer bet. Well ... as safe as a crystal can be that seeps actual Lava when a focused beam of ionized particles hits it.

It's one of those things that sounds awesome, but when trying to make anything practical with it is more likely to cause an awesome explosion than anything really useful. An awesome explosion is awesome when it is 50m away from you and blowing up your foe but not 0.5m just in front of your face.

What is the special benefit of the lava crystal?

It drips lava when it's swung. Mechanically, in the video game, it does bonus damage to the enemy. In real life, it would be as dangerous to the user as to whoever's getting hit.

Maybe hurt? The Dagger is pretty much the only way to permanently kill off any of the Ones, including Abeloth. It's pretty important.
