Well before that we have to deal with Albert Wesker. From what I've heard of this is perhaps one of the few times we get to take the gloves off.

Oh yes, I've forgotten about that, has Ciaran gotten involved personally? I really do want to see Ciaran get her hands dirty at some point, just to see how far she's come.

Don't they start construction on the Death Star this year?

That'd be in orbit of Geonosis would it not? Hm, resources for that monstrosity have to come from somewhere.

The Death Star took several years to build so I doubt it will be a factor given the circumstances. Plus with all the butterflies, we might have delayed several other potential superweapons from the CIS and maybe the Republic. Having several planets say "nope, want peace" would delay their resource gathering and R&D.

Okay, what else big happens this year... Deathwatch attack, are we still keeping an eye on them? It's about time for Maul to move back onto the galactic stage, need to watch out for him... and Sheev is passing an anti-bureaucracy bill that makes a big chunk of his plans much easier. Need to block that.

Great quest though. The avalanche of crits that sometimes pop up are crazier than a Sage quest.
Really? I kind of doubt that, but I need to check it out myself I guess. I have yet to see anything crazier than the Ophis recruitment in the CORE quest which had something like 14 crits in a single interlude (on the PC's par alone).

Deathwatch should be just about gone, we killed the leaders and took out the primary resources. Installing the Guardians is a double move of making a coup more difficult and removing popular support. As for Maul...he might be butterflied out already. I mean, the only way I see him not getting 'cleaned up' as a loose end on Naboo by Palpatine is if he couldn't find him. That only would have worked if he got off planet undetected by the returning Jedi and Republic Defense/Aid forces...and we stole his stealth ship.

Maul is still around, he didn't get off Naboo in canon by ship. Dooku was supposed to have it during the clone wars if I remember right.

The rebels really missed an opportunity with the death Star. They had its technical readouts instead of destroying it they should have hacked it. Imagine if we could infiltrate the Death Star and own it's systems.

While we're busy plotting how to beat Palpatine, I noticed something that might be more immediately useful for our Onderon operation against Sevrance Tann next turn:
[X] Refine the 'Buried Presence' trick:
Reward: Improved Buried Presence Technique, increased success rates for Intrigue actions involving Force-Users

Also, I was re-reading the 'Operation Skyfall' mini-arc, and noticed this from near the end
Kal nodded in return, then intensely focused on Ciaran. "Remember that the second you learn more about the chips-"

"You will be the first to know," Ciaran cut him off.
Kal Skirata is intensely loyal to his clone commandos. We secured his silence by warning him about the inhibitor chips. We could easily secure his loyalty (and, by extension, the loyalty of those commandos) by telling him what more we've learned.
-Kal Skirata has begun to quietly spread word about the inhibitor chips to people he trusts to keep quiet about it. So far this number only includes himself, the Null ARCs, Walon Vau and Delta Squad.
I'm actually curious whether Kal Skirata has spread the word with any other clone groups -- such as the Alpha ARCs, or Omega Squad, or any of the other 'Clone Commando' squads that Kal Skirata trained -- Delta Squad is the most famous, but the main article on Wookiepedia says that there were thousands of commandos trained and deployed in squads of four.

Something else to consider: will it be possible to recruit (or add to our list of 'Troops' on the first page) Jango Fett's Cuy'val Dar -- the 100 experts that Jango Fett brought to Kamino to train the Clone Commandos? Kal Skirata and Walon Vau are only two of the names on the list.
You're the best in your field—the best soldiers, tacticians, sappers, communicators, survival experts. I picked you personally because I want you to train the best commandos in the galaxy.
Or would that be considered one of Jango's traits if/when we add him as a Hero unit? Because having all that at our disposal would be pretty damn awesome, I have to admit.

Finally:
For the record: I haven't even touched the CNS-neighboring sectors in the Mid Rim and Expansion Region. Assuming my free time stays free, that's my next project.
...Yeah. Turns out I had some free time, and the nearby Mid Rim + Expansion Region sectors are... actually kind of ridiculously empty. Which makes sense, I suppose -- both the Separatist movement and the Rebel Alliance were based out of the Outer Rim, while the Republic and the Empire were based out of the Core. Star Wars canon just hasn't spent much time detailing what lies in between. I'm going to have a devil of a time ret-conning why PR-1 wasn't able to find much of interest in the neighboring sectors, though.

Anyway, 'Briefing the Boss Pt. 2' omake incoming.

Considering her mother was part of Deathwatch, did we butterfly Sabine Wren out of existence? @Dr. Snark, any word on this?

Operation Snake Eater - Strategy Session
Oracle, Briefing Room

"U-uh, everyone, m-may I have your attention?"

As opposed to many of the other Watchers being briefed Cheriss Sair was not exactly what anyone would consider to be "commander material." In fact, as Ciaran had pointed out to the other staff, the main reason she was in a position of authority was more to have someone supervise the planning (which would be handled by other military members) more than anything else.

But bless her eager heart Cheriss actually took her position as operational leader seriously, consulting with some of the more military-minded members of the Watchers like Thrawn and Grievous when she had the time, or looked up guides on how to command and a variety of other things so she could actually be a asset to the assault plans. There was only one problem:

She wasn't exactly the type of person who had the bearings of a general. At all. And while she was only talking to the upper echelon commanders and the command staff...there was definitely a bit of disdain leveled in her direction, though no one said anything.

"R-right," she said, activating a display behind her that showed a planet. "This is the planet codenamed 'Ouroboros' by our target, which is a relatively normal planet in the Outer Rim unclaimed by either the Separatists or the Republic."

At this point noticeable confidence was beginning to come into Cheriss' voice, which was not lost on the audience.

"Thanks to the actions of the Silencer we have learned that our target has a base here-" and with her words a marker was displayed on the planet before zooming into an overlay of the base, "-that is the center for his virus creations. While it is possible that there are other small labs like La'Sombra, our intel suggests that if this base ceased operations there would be no viable way for new synthetic viruses to be developed. As for the plan of attack-"

The image zoomed back out to a view of the galaxy, with a route to the planet displayed. "-with the intel the Silencer has given us the Oracle Fleet should be more than capable of eliminating the relatively small orbital defenses; the planet was apparently primarily secured through secrecy up to this point. The finer details will be handled by on-site commanders. As for the ground battle...according to the command staff there are potential assets that could be brought into play that could affect the forces we deploy and strategies we use. More details on that will be sent to you once that becomes apparent. That is all for now."

With that, the majority of the audience left barring Ciaran, Gulan, Xruk, and OOM-9. Cheriss waited until everyone had left, then let out a sigh of relief. "S-so, was I any good? I mean, I wasn't really sure if I knew what I was doing this is the first time I've ever done that and all of those guys looked like they weren't really that impressed and I know I shouldn't be fishing for compliments but I-"

"You did fine," Ciaran said, smiling, "and I admit that this far exceeded my expectations for when I assigned you to this. Now then, OOM-9?"

"Roger, roger. Sealing room."

"You sure you want to bring in outside people on this boss?" Gulan asked, looking at Ciaran. "This kind of place would definitely have some very valuable things in it to acquire and it's in a location that basically no one knows about."

"Which is why I want second opinions," Ciaran said as she leaned forward. "We already know the benefits of us going in alone; no interference and we get the base for ourselves without question. But-and this is important-we might be able to use this as an opportunity to improve ties or covertly pass along information that could gain us allies that could help us with the future problem of Palpatine."

"If you are referring to the Jedi, then I would advise against bringing them in," Xruk said. "They would take one look at the base and demand it and any data contained within it to be destroyed on the spot. I know we don't want to continue the research there, but there could be valuable research that that could be applied to other areas."

"And I'm just going to tell you right now that telling them about the whole Sith Lord thing will cause them to try and kill him right now, and I for one do not want to see that shitshow play out," Gulan said. "We're not ready to handle that, and don't get me started on the massive political fallout it would cause."

"Hmm...we do have an external contact though," Ciaran realized out loud. "It's been years but maybe Ferus could be contacted?"

"...Damn, can't believe I forgot..." Gulan muttered to himself as he ran a quick search on his datapad. "Hello...apparently there's one Ferus Olin serving as an officer in the GAR right now, so we can get in touch with him pretty easily if we wanted. Can't get more information without a more in-depth look though, but given that he quit the Order we can probably convince him to keep his mouth shut about 66 and Palpy...and odds are they wouldn't be telling him about the whole fiasco with Darra either so he should still trust us. Probably." Punching in another search on his pad Gulan continued. "Before you ask, yes we've still got Skirata's comm information and we know he and the commandos he's with can keep their mouths shut, because no one has asked us about why we have Asajj on our staff. Anyone else you had in mind?"

Ciaran stayed silent for a moment and leaned back with a "No," before turning to face the rest of her advisers in turn. "Do those two seem like legitimate contacts?"

"Combat projections indicate that said assets would increase our already high chances of success," OOM-9 noted.

"I would still point out the potential for interference in considering whether to bring them in," Xruk noted.

"Uh...what they said," Cheriss commented, glancing around nervously.

"Hmmm...oh right, operation name. That also needs to be a thing," Ciaran muttered to herself.

Outside Support for Operation:

[] No one. You're not risking losing whatever could be contained within Wesker's or letting knowledge of the base itself spread. You know for a fact from the intel you've gotten that your forces can handle whatever is there themselves.

[] Bring in support. You could use the opportunity to quietly spread the word about Order 66 and Palpatine to people you know will keep quiet about it, giving you useful allies in a worrying time. (Choose one or both)
-[] Ferus Olin: He told you he would help you if you needed it after saving Darra and even though its been a few years since you last spoke with him now seems like the perfect time to cash in that favor. That, and he's a powerful Jedi on his own, making him an invaluable asset on the battlefield.
-[] Kal Skirata: Effectively one of the leaders of the Republic's commando divisions, you did promise him that you would tell him about the chips first thing. Contacting him would also likely get you some commandos or possibly even a Null ARC on your team.

Operation Name:

[] Write-in

AN: Fuck me this took way longer than it should have. Blame it on a particularly nasty cold that killed my desire to do much of anything when I tried to write something.

Anyway, you've got the chance to call in friends (who will shut the fuck up even if you hit them with what you've learned) to help you on your mission to Ouroboros if you should so choose. So we'll see how that plays out.

As for the mission itself, I will point out that Ciaran will be participating because it will be awesome, and other things might happen depending on the votes.

Enjoy~

why not both?

[x] Operation Asklepius

[x] Invite Kal-El Skirata

As useful as Olin might be there's no guarantee that he won't demand that Base be cleansed. He's still a jedi at heart. Skirata on the other will likely be far more pragmatic. Plus you've been meaning to pass on a heads up about the chips anyway, one stone two birds.

We did promise Skirata we'd tell him, plus the idea of getting Delta Squad involved in an even crazier mission that 'never happened' appeals to me. As for the title, I've been playing too much MG recently and the name of the planet was too much to not make a pun.
