What if a shard sprouted while they were dating someone? Would that be kinda sorta their kid?

TBH I kind of assumed that was the case with Larus to begin with.

and there are copies made from...however copies are made in the far futurepast of another galaxy?

Nope. This is a one-of-a-kind painting made by Thrawn for Thrawn (and other Abyss Watchers too I suppose).

What about the faction opinions/character attitudes?

Have faith in me dammit; I updated those too!

A hypothetical turn of events where Thrawn gives terrible advice, because his own speeches mostly exist to hype up his soldiers before a fight.

[X] The New Mandalore (CNS): A lot of people around the galaxy are frightened of the idea of Mandalore returning to the expansionist state it was in the days of old after Jango was declared Mandalore by the Guardian Corps. You might want to work with Satine on a PR campaign that shows Jango is not interested returning to that era. Chance of Success: 50% Reward: PR campaign to ease tensions with CNS/Mandalore initiated

Rolled 1 = 1 (Super Critical Failure)

A Good Speech, A Wrong Occasion
"I don't know about this." said Jango as the make-up team worked their magic.

"You'll do fine." Assured Thrawn, checking his schedule to make sure he had time to be prepping the new Mand'alor. His speech would likely be the most important one of the night. "Just speak to them as you speak to me."

"It's different with you. You have my respect." said Jango, before growing somber. "Being a bounty hunter isn't exactly a sociable existence, and what diplomacy I do tends to involve blasters and flamethrowers."

"Flamethrowers, interesting." Thrawn mumbled to himself. "Regardless, I see your point. Many others will know you are not a diplomat. Their expectations will be lower for you than they will be for Duchess Satine or Lady Ciaran."

"I know that." snapped Jango. "Sorry, I'm just nervous. You're pretty well spoken. Got any tips?"

"Hmm…" thought Thrawn. It was true that he had much experience speaking to the masses. A good speech was instrumental in raising morale before letting Grievous take over for one of his daring raids. "If I have one piece of advice, it is to be yourself."

"That's not helpful. If I wanted useless platitudes, I'd have asked a Jedi." snarked Jango.

"I mean it in a more literal sense. You are a passionate man who demands respect from those who know him. The great speakers of history, any history, not just Mandalorian history, were similar. They were men and women of passion." explained Thrawn. He could feel himself slipping into his own passion for informing others of history and art, but perhaps learning this would help ease Jango's nerves, so he continued on.

"They would wave their arms, and pound their fists… many times so as to emphasize their point. Their speeches would fan the flames of passion not only within themselves, but within the audience as well. Do not worry how they will react. Speak with passion, unbridled passion, and they will hear your message." said Thrawn, reaching into his bag. "This book records many great speeches by great leaders of the Chiss. Take it, perhaps their words will stoke your own passion. Maybe give you some talking points."

Jango reached out and took the collection of speeches, given by great Chiss generals over the centuries to set ablaze the passion of their soldiers before marching off to war.

XXX

The applause is almost deafening as Satine respectfully bows towards the audience before she steps back and Jango steps forward. As he does, the tension in the room dramatically spikes, the audience holding their breath to see what the Mandalore has to say to the galaxy.

"Before we start, I want to say that I have never done something like this before, so I hope you'll be willing to bear with me," Jango says flatly.

The tension in the room slightly evaporates at that and you can tell that a few people are sincerely confused at what's happening. Though no one but you and Satine know it, that was a calculated move to make Jango seem more human to the audience, instead of some all-powerful figure beyond their understanding. Clearing his throat, Jango begins to speak.

Jango pounded his fists on the podium three times, startling everyone present before shouting into the microphone. "BLOOD ALONE MOVES THE WHEELS OF HISTORY!" A shocked silence descended over the crowd. Jango leaned close to the microphone, almost whispering but for its volume and intensity. "Do you ever ask yourself in an hour of meditation, which everyone finds during the day, how long we have been striving for greatness?"

Jango's arms began to gesticulate wildly as he continued, sparing a moment to pound the podium again as he began. "Not only the years we've been at war, the war of work, but from the moment, as a child when we realize that the galaxy can be conquered. It has been a lifetime struggle." Jango's fist pumped in the air triumphantly before both fists pounded the podium once more. "A never-ending fight. I say to you, and you will understand that IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO FIGHT!" Jango's right arm pumped furiously to emphasis each syllable.

Silence reigned over the audience as Jango took a moment to catch his breath before shouting even louder than before, not even bothering with the microphone this time. "WE ARE WARRIORS! Soldiers of Mandalore I ask you, once more rise and be worthy of this historical hour!"

Ciaran leaned over to Thrawn, panic clearly written across the woman's face. "Thrawn, what the hell is he doing?"

"It appears Jango has taken more liberally from Chis history than I had anticipated." said Thrawn, face equally pale.

"No revolution is worth anything if it cannot! Defend! Itself!" continued Jango, pounding his fists on each word. "Some people will tell you Mand'alor is a bad word. They'll conjure up images of warriors soaked with the blood of the innocent, and conquered lands aflame. This is our duty to change their perception. I say Mandalorians of the galaxy unite!" Satine was frantically ordering the guards, who were unsure what they were supposed to do. Tackling Jango would have been preferable to having him continue, but no one wanted to be the person to remove the Mand'alor form the stage.

"We must never acquiesce for it is together, TOGETHER THAT WE PREVAIL! WE MUST NEVER CEDE CONTROL OF THE MOTHERLAND!" Thankfully, Jango seemed to have finally concluded his speech. Ciaran's face was buried in her hands as several of Thrawn's plants began clapping awkwardly.

AN: I kind of wonder how the event would have gone if we had crit failed one of those speeches in the middle of an otherwise critically successful line up. Incidently, this speech would have gotten any Mandalorians super pumped right before a fight. It's just super bad when trying to give a speech on peace.

Well, I finished reading "Fundamental Force Carriers" (still terrible, fyi) and made my way to the one-shot sequels, including this one. When I read Anakin's salutation to Boba Fett ("Vode an.") I had a sudden thought that really should have dawned on me before.

The Grand Army of the Republic is populated by clones of Mandalore the Resurgent. During their early training, Jango Fett taught them Mandalorian war chants to sing on their way to battle. These clones are essentially slaves -- bred and trained for war, implanted with mind control chips, never asked whether they want to serve in the army and never paid for their service.

...How soon do we pass a law giving Mandalorian citizenship to each and every clone trooper? How soon do we formally petition the Senate to free the clone army from slavery?

If anything could completely and totally scramble Palpatine's plans to militarize the Republic and turn it into an Empire, taking away his whole army would certainly qualify...!

Sometimes being yourself will piss off everyone else in the world and play right into the baddies' hands. +10, non-canon obviously.

It's worth noting that you'd have to de-chip the entire army which is kind of difficult. There is that entire de-chipped group and of course there's Kal Skirata.

We also have a massive humanitarian organization, (one of) the largest in the galaxy currently, and we practically own the CNS. With the research on the chips done, we'd probably be able to pull it off in a turn, maybe two.

No, you really couldn't because then you'd either tip off Sidious or be accused of sabotaging the GAR. Either way it's a no-go.

Seriously, so this. There is no conceivable way, whatsoever, to de-chip the entire clone army. It's a motherfuckin' galactic army! That's a fuck-ton of clones to be able to bring any reasonable force to bear on multiple planets/multiple fronts if need be.

Now, the question is, did they leave a failsafe for reprogramming the chips?

Much like TV remotes can take seemingly random inputs to activate Debug mode, do the clones have an order 43o85srid987?

We don't have to de chip the entire army, just the high command; you know, the ones that will be actually receiving the order and disseminating it down the chain of command.

Not saying that it wouldn't be extremely hard to pull off though.

If we manage to get a contract to provide cybernetics for the higher officials of GAR .....

Could we hack (cough "slice") the Inhibitor Chips to replace some of the most objectionable orders? Still would be 'accused of sabotaging GAR' if caught, but much less intrusive.

Alternately, we could use the "declare citizenship" -> "petition for freedom" approach to get access to the clones. We could always arrange 'inspections' and 'medical checks', since we're so concerned about the health and welfare of our newest citizens....

Also, for the 'petition for freedom' thing, I doubt the Senate would willingly give up their army unless we brought serious political pressure. OTOH, perhaps we could arrange a 'compromise' option: the Senate agrees to 'free' the clone troopers while formally employing them in planetary defense forces and regional militias (since military training is their only marketable skill). The Senate as mostly been treating planetary militias as extensions of the GAR anyway, so this would basically result in a legal change in status without actually changing much. Though clone troopers would now have to be paid... though presumably the Senate would decide that, since clones are on the front lines and have their needs taken care of by the GAR quartersmasters, they wouldn't have need for money, so they can just deposit those paychecks in a trust fund... that invests everything in Republic bonds....

So: nice, neat, flagrantly corrupt -- the best kind of reform, at least in the eyes of the Galactic Senate.

What they don't notice, is that when we suggested and wrote the 'compromise', we didn't include any restrictions on which planets the clone troopers could join the planetary defense forces of. Immediately after the law passes, we launch a massive PR campaign to persuade the clone troopers to sign up with CNS militias and/or persuade those planets that have clone recruits to join the CNS.

So: nice, neat... and incredibly under-handed. :ninja:

One problem with this plan: doing that would require you to reveal that you know about the existence of the chips. Which would put you on the very very top of Palpy's "KILL IMMEDIATELY" list. Hell, even trying to influence the status of the clone army in any way would jump you up in threat level to Palpatine's plans quite a bit in an obvious manner...

Edit: Let me put it this way for any future discussion: fucking with the clone army in a too overt fashion will cause Palpatine to take you more seriously.

Yep, and people at the top of Insidious' Kill Immediately list don't stay there for very long.

Because they get moved to his Killed Immediately list posthaste and posthumously.

Maybe? But I personally doubt it.

As for you two(and everyone else thinking we can game this), we literally cannot do anything until Palps is D.E.A.D. You hear?! DEAD! We cannot do anything until Palps is [verified dead] and can't do shit to us anymore. Do anything like you're suggesting and we hit the top of his shitlit so fast, we're dead within the next turn by Maul or whomever if Teron/Snark/Sage/*insert name here* die fail us or if they don't, have a massive smear campaign against us or whatever or worst come to worst, he takes the field against us personally.

We need to learn more lightsaber styles... cause those give us traits.

And we need to look for evidence connecting Palpatine to Sidious... Until then we kind of have to react to him.

Or Force styles. Just saying, we can control guns with our mind, we just have to learn how.

As for making the connection between Sheev and Sidious, I'm fairly certain that's coming in the Order 66 Interlude. Or at least that's a step in the right direction.

Maybe? But I personally doubt it.

Palps isn't all that much of a (direct) threat until he gets Anakin under his thumb. A task force led by Mace Windu put him down pretty handily. Presumably, this can be matched by the sum total of all the Abyss Watcher's current military assets. Even more if we have Anakin nearby at nearly all times.

It'd also be a great way to bait out the mystery Sith, so having Jedi waiting in the wings could be just part of the plan.

Or force him to activate order 66 early.

It isn't his power we're worried about; it is the massive armies he can point at us.

edit: Both of which can't disobey him. >.<

Yeah, a task force that had like what, 3-5 jedi(counting Mace himself)? That's not good odds for anyone. However, one on one? He kicked Yoda's ass and could easily kick ours compared to Yoda's. He's definitely a direct threat. He just won't move personally until he's either out of options to take us down or patience because that kind of disrupts his plan/is not in The PlanTM.
