Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Dreamworks was able to do 2 last time, what happened?
Because the Great Mouse Detective is still in production. At the end yes, but its still in production.
Or does it go into effect later?
Later. in 82. Mostly because one things is happening and you will see it in the actions to come.
So anytime we make an animated pitch, it can be produced, even if it's a movie which doesn't have a script quality yet?
Any project that currently does not have a script can be made, i will roll for a script quality and it will be made for this round of turns.

We must give treasure planet the spotlight it deserved cause by god was it beautiful.
Have to agree there. Treasure Planet would be the perfect project to give to Lasseter in my opinion, a good beginning for Pixar and CGI animation. I know John and Ron want to do it, but this could really go toe to toe with the Black Cauldron if properly promoted (unlike OTL), plus we get to be the first to do an animation film with CGI.

Hanna Barbara 2, but that carries a negative quality.
I'm going with finishing Scooby Doo, as (and I'm sure I'm going to get flack for this) I really don't like Johnny Quest.

Seriously, what's so good about it? The series is boring.
And I'm going to give you all this: Any animated pitch you want to make, can be made.
Anything you say...

Well, I'll have to check on the list.

Wait, what about the Oversimplified Pitch? That one is animation, can it be done?

Would people mind if we make Sword of the Stranger as a Sunrise movie? My basic idea was that with the failure of Kagemusha, I want a sort of spiritual redemption for Kurosawa as well as to keep the Samurai craze still going strong. Sword of the Stranger could serve as an excellent showcase of personal combat in animation and I do feel a bit guilty for having Sunrise mainly focus on works with settings set outside of Japan.

My main idea is to focus on Zeta Gundam this year, so with Sword of the Stranger as a movie, then we will still have a animated film in production and give some love to Japan, not to mention it will capitalize off of the 80s action bonus. I know that it's listed as an OVA, but from what I read it would be better if it stuck to its movie format.

So, that's the action for Dreamworks? I'm fine with it, so long as we agree to have Treasure Planet for next year (or this one if it finishes in time). Also, we should try and expand our animator pool in order to see who we can get this time around.

So, that would leave Hannah-Barbera. For the project with them, I think I'd prefer if we could either do the Oversimplified Pitch, or The Nguyens. If either does not work, then I think we can go with Scooby-Doo.

Movie Pitch: The Bounty Beyond
Movie Pitch:
The Bounty Beyond

GENRE: Animation/Mystery
SUBGENRE: Western/Horror
FORMAT: Movie

So I am copying the basic premise of a quest on the 4chan /qst/ board by the name of Wanted Dead. One where anyone killed in the West is sent to a purgatory like space that is neither heaven nor hell. Only by successfully killing the person who sent them there are they allowed to face true judgement. The only people excepted from this are the indigenous peoples of the Americas, who are allowed to move on to their afterlife less any grudges or hates that they may have once had.

For the movie, I want to have it follow our main character, William G. Hunt, who was killed in a train crash, only to be brought back by chance thanks to a doctor who was near the site of the crash and literally escaping death. As it turns out, this doctor has unknowingly left part of William in the Outlands, a fantastic and terrifying place beyond this world but not quite at the next. A spot on the tracks between stops as it were. William is now able to to hear and, if close enough to them, see those who are trapped in the Outlands. He makes it his mission to deliver those who are innocent victims of killers justice, and possibly salvation for their eternal soul.

The first movie would consist of three acts following a typical hero's journey before meeting Death and learning that due to his condition, he now has to help the world by working with Death.

If anyone has any ideas on how to flesh out the script, please respond to this as I have to head to work now.

I'm pretty sure Kaiser is suggesting that Sword of the Stranger would be made as the second project of Sunrise, since Sunrise can make two things right now, alongside Zeta Gundam.
Good catch. Alright then, can I convince everyone else to let Lassetter take a shot for Treasure Planet? Let's face facts people, Lassetter is very good at what he does regarding storytelling OTL, and I'm sure with the overall experience he's gotten so far, working with not only "Primitive Pixar" but also with the japanese animators and films being made (even though I feel he and Don will start a civil war if they're ever in the same room alone). I think we should give him the chance with the first animated movie that truly has the need for Pixar this time around.

Aside from that, what are everyone's thoughts on going for Scooby-Doo and Oversimplified for Hannah-Barbera? If it's going to be low quality, then let's end Scooby-Doo as it is, and let's begin Oversimplified with it's first videos (I'm thinking WWI and Mini-Wars) before we go for the more meaty ones.

Thanks👍

Honestly? I'm a bit apprehensive about it. It doesn't seem like Pixar is really done yet and so I'm kind of on the fence about doing it just yet. I'm also kind of leaning away from doing films that we already have scripts for, since I'd prefer to make use of the auto script generation that Magoose gave us for this turn, but If everyone really wants to do it, I think I could come to terms with it.

It's my understanding that it's going to be low quality specifically if we choose to do two things instead of just one. That, along with the prior commitment on that Magoose laid out, is why I personally favor just tackling Scooby Doo for now, wrapping it up, and then moving on to another project.

[X] Plan Gundam Strikes Back
-[X] Dreamworks: Work on Gundam with Sunrise
-[X] Sunrise: Zeta Gundam $35 million. Directed Yoshiyuki Tomino.
-[X] Sunrise: Sword of the Stranger (Movie): $20 million.
-[X] Hanna-Barbera: Johnny Quest $20 million
-[X] Hanna-Barbera: Complete Scooby Doo. $7 million

For Dreamworks, I think it would be best for us to do Gundam. Remember that the action of this turn mentioned Bandai getting rather impatient with Dreamworks, and I think it's because they want another Gundam to make more money. Tomino says the episodes are all ready to go, he's super pumped and hasn't done literally anything else besides Gundam so it's a nice gift for him. With Gundam, all hands for Dreamworks will focus on Gundam and give Tomino the support he needs, most importantly Don Bluth and Noboru so we can make another masterpiece. The timing is critical because it's likely we'll release Zeta Gundam and have it finish right before Return of the Jedi, plus it's premise builds greatly as being essentially the Empire Strikes Back of Gundam. Also it can be the flagship series of LucasTV since our channel will debut in 1982.

Sunrise is on board for Zeta Gundam and I want them to do Sword of the Stranger. With Ron and John behind on Basil of Baker Street, we'll be lacking in movie releases so Sword of the Stranger will fill in that niche nicely. It's like Lone Wolf and Cub which America in this timeline absolutely loves so it'll be a guaranteed hit. It'll also be Sunrise's first theatrical release and give them some experience making their own movies. Plus some more love to Japanese culture in the midst of the Japanese invasion.

As for Hanna-Barbera, I see no reason why not to make them happy by allowing them to do Johnny Quest. The timing of the release will be perfect as it will be the same year of or after Raiders of the Lost Ark is released so Johnny Quest may be super popular thanks to that. Complete Scooby-Doo. Since Hanna-Barbera has a malus, might as well inflict that malus on an existing project and the one Scooby-Doo which involves Scrappy.

Apologies for those who want Treasure Planet and Prince of Egypt. But the more time it gets to cook the more time they'll become masterpieces, especially once Pixar debuts itself with Tron.

@Magoose Can we increase the budgets of all of Zeta Gundam, Johnny Quest and Scooby-Doo or do they have to be at the listed requirements?

Well, the explanation makes sense, so let's go for it.

[X] Plan Gundam Strikes Back

I still hope we can do Oversimplified later on.

PRAISE THE BUDGET GODS!

Just so you know, I increased Zeta Gundam's budget to 35 million. So it would have 5 more than OTL's Empire Strikes Back. could you please edit it so that way the vote tally isn't confused?

My understanding of Hana Babera instructions says we can remove the Malus if we only work on finishing the scooby doo staff.

This gives them time to settle in working for us with decent budgets and actual creative freedom. yes it pushes back Johnny Quest but it also makes a clear line in the sand that delineates the ok aform the good and results in any tetthing trouble happing on the scooby do that we dont really care abut rather than Johnny Quest which we do

and if we get really lucky we get fans Looking back and going " ah here is when Lucasfim took over . you can tellbeacuse Scrappy Do is actualy watchable."

As for inspiration just have them follow Natalie around for half an hour as she tries to keep up with Mary
