Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

All I'm going to say is that once we get going we might never stop.

As in our talents will be very noticeable.

Also remember when all the screen precense was getting buffed?

It will affect a lot of things.

Esspecially perception of you as a serious actor.

Brazilian Ju-jitsu Carrie coming?

[X]Do not Mistake Me for a Damsel in Destress (Carrie will now begin learning a fighting discipline)

Man that'd make for a pretty badass Princess Leia if she not only shoots her way out of fights but also throws hands with stormtroopers and bounty hunters, would definitely make Carrie a top contender with Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver for top badass actresses. Also if Leia gets more action scenes, hopefully in the EU that would push her character towards being more of a Jedi Knight like how Timothy Zahn was trying to push for in the Thrawn trilogy instead of Bantam making her just a diplomat and Leia never picking up a lightsaber again until 25 years later in Swarm War.

Also hypothetically if we do end up marrying Carrie and we're both Han and Leia, it would be pretty hilarious if Bantam sends us a rough draft of "Courtship of Princess Leia" so they can brag about the real Han and Leia giving a seal of approval only for the two of us to flip out over the batshit insanity of the novel.

"Why the hell would they think I'd abandon Bruce for Prince Fabio of the Space FemiNazis?"
"So the inciting incident of our romance plot and buildup to marriage is Han kidnapping Leia and bribing her into a betrothal? What the hell kind of impression was I giving on screen?

The basics line up shockingly well actually.

A kid far from home keeps getting beat up and put in bad situations, gets found by a Martial Arts master who teaches him how to fight and finds success.

It's just where Daniel was in school dealing with bullies, Goose was dealing with perverts and muggers trying to make it in Hollywood, and where Daniel solved his problems with a Karate Tournament to prove his skill, Goose solved his by proving his skill in a martial arts movie.

Honestly you should keep the 'Goose' stand in in school to keep appeal to a younger audience and maintain the Karate tournament because that is a firmer way to show off the progress and a more concrete end goal.

All you have to do is change the mentor up and make it about Chinese martial arts and philosophy rather then Japanese…which is kind of what the reboot did.

If we do make Karate Kid out of our experience with Bruce Lee, then it's important to remember it'd be called "The Kung Fu Kid" as anything else would be an insult to Bruce's craft. Also, if it's just a slice of life about a guy learning Kung Fu to deal with LA craziness while becoming an actor, I don't think it'd sell nearly as well as Karate Kid. American culture at its heart is about individualism and success through competittion. Karate Kid like Rocky hit all the right notes of an American sports movie with an everyman underdog rising from nothing and becoming a champion against his peers through a tournament while also growing as a man and getting the girl. We need some sort of overarching competition to triumph over and win the big fight at the end of the day to be cemented as one of the greats.

"And it was from this novel that Carrie and I decided enough was enough..so we, and Mark, created the well loved fanfiction series we started just this month: 'Star Wars and the After Wars.' Where we continue the story off from The Return of the Jedi." Bruce says to the intrviewer.

"So..did you two sign the Seal of Courtship?" The interviewer asks in interest.

"Oh we did." Carrie smirked with a mischivous smile while turning her eye to Bruce. "We decided to hang it up in a picture frame at home."

That's why I recommended we keep the school kid fighting in a Martial Arts tournament part.

Keeping the bullies is a good idea, but we could do something like have Kreese be a Korean War vet who learned Kung Fu to use against the Chinese or something, and have the bullies be more delinquents outside of school and maybe be more like a gang or something.

Overall the basic structure of 'Kid moves to a new location (LA instead of generic California), gets into fights (maybe with a gang of high school dropouts harassing a girl from his school), finds a Teacher (a Kung Fu master) and has to beat his enemies at a tournament' should all probably be kept

100 Push-ups, 100 Sit-ups, 10km Run

"Please stop trying to kill your body, Bruce." Carrie sighed as she carried a tired Bruce into the apartment.

"I-I haven't finished the 10 kilometre run yet!" Bruce complained while Carrie shook her head.

"Ever since you accepted the opportunity to work with CBS for the second season of M*A*S*H, you've been running yourself dry with all of these ridiculous work-outs!" Carrie scolds him as she begins ranting out the list you've been doing. "Let's see here..100 push ups every day.."

"That should build up muscle!" You tried joking and you were then pushed to the bed with a bag of ice on top of your head.

"Shush you." Carrie retorted before continuing her tirade. "Next, 100 Sit-ups a day.."

"That'll increase my core muscles and back flexibility!" You gave out a reason why you performed the exercise daily.

"Without a resting day, you'll be destroying your own body without repair!" Carrie responded as she began reading through a book.

"Work-outs at home?" You read the title as you looked back at her.

"So I can monitor your training before you could drive mad with them." She answered without a beat.

"Ouch." You smiled in a small manner though..

"And a 10 kilometre run around the city?" She sighed while pulling up a chair and patted your head. "I don't get how you managed to do that.."
"All it takes is sheer will and determination, Carrie." You sighed dramatically with a grin, receiving a rolled eye in return while she pouts at you.

"If all it takes is determination and will to do those work-outs, someone must've become the strongest in the world just from that." She retorted and continued reading through the book she was holding. "Where did you even get the crazy idea to just do those three workouts to begin with?"

"In Highschool I've always struggled with those exercises." You recalled as you went through your thought process to start this work-out regimen. "So I decided that it'll work if it gives me difficulty.."

"But you aren't a terrible runner?" Carrie looks at you with confusion.

"..that it'll be the perfect workout to do until production for M*A*S*H's season two starts?" You chuckled nervously.

"Bruce.." Carrie sighed again as goes to the kitchen, then came back with a glass of cold water at hand. "What am I going to do with you?"

"Don't know, be with me?" Your smile turns less mischievous as she gives you the glass of water before drinking it, feeling your parched throat becoming less dry.

I'm real tired right now, so heres what I'm going to do.

We're going to have something good happen to Carrie next turn with a roll bonus, how about that?

"Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory,

forever and ever.

Amen."

Reward: Perhaps there will be something good coming your way. Or perhaps… something more.

But no one knows. You can only pray and hope.

But things begin to feel better, perhaps even more.

[]Debbies Divorce Drama: Debbie needs some help keeping things civil. Seems that her Husband is doing anything but. DC: 40/50/55 Rolled:
D100 => 75

Karl was trying his best to remain calm, and civil. That was much more than you cared to feel as you helped Debbie start packing away some of the memorabilia. There was nothing that you were willing to do. You just wanted to make sure that Debbie felt safe when picking up her things.

She had not finalized her divorce proceedings yet, as her lawyers were trying to make sure that there were going to be no ramifications for her divorce, and of her debts.

She had feared, and for very good reasons, that she was about to be taking every single debt that Karl had in the divorce, despite her not consenting, or taking part of many of his poor investment choices.

In fact, you were surprised with how Calm Debbie was when stating what she was doing, and how she was doing it when Karl Protested.

"I am going to do what is best for me and the children." She stated, finally breaking the silence as you sat down with a glass of water, watching Karl like a hawk as he paced the floor, trying to think of the next words to say. "Starting with leaving you."

"After everything we built!? After all we went through!" He growled, but did nothing but look big and puff his chest. If he were really dangerous to Debbie or to you, you would have knocked his ass out and called the cops.

No, this man was merely out with impotent and futile rage at the life he tried to parasite his way into was slowly being taken away, by the woman who was more powerful than him by a country mile.

"You mean all she went through. You were just coasting and using Debbie for your own ego." There was a pause, as Karl stomped over towards you, pointing an accusing finger.

"Shut up you little fuck!" He swore as he than pointed at Debbie, who was surprised that you were not laying out onto Karl. "Why is he even here!? Where the hell is Carrie and Todd?"

"Because I don't trust you farther than I can spit." You stated as you took a drink of water, to allow yourself to calm down. "And Todd and Carrie are safe, away from you."

"I have never-" He protested before Debbie continued moving her things to her car. "I'm not done talking to you, you bitch!"

Before he could lay a hand on Debbie, you jumped, nearly ten feet, and grabbed his wrist, squeezing it and twisting it at an angle, not enough to do anything but cause a great deal of pain. "AH!"

"Don't move, or you will twist and sprain your wrist." You stated as the man fell down to his knees in pain. It was honestly quite pathetic, seeing as Bruce had done something far worse to you for much worse.

But then again, this was quite serious, and you were not trying to seriously hurt him. Because it would be rude. "Ah, let go of me!" He screamed, not moving from your grip as you calmly squeezed harder, being very careful not to send anything

Debbie was quite shocked and in fear by your sudden action, as well as Karls' violent outburst and trying to grab her.

She was quiet for a moment, surprised just how skilled and controlled you were at handling the situation, and in such a way where, at least, it didn't seem to hurt her future ex-husband.

"Not until you don't move." You stated, quietly letting go, and pushing him away.

"You broke my arm!" He shouted.

"Pinched a nerve." You stated as if you were growing sick of his winning. "I pinched a nerve to where it would give the sensation of pain, it will return to normal in a few minutes, as long as you move the wrist."

You then looked to Debbie, and then to Kal. "We will return to get the remainder of her items in a day. You better hope to Almighty God, that you don't do something stupid. Like, Remain here."

And you made sure Debbie got into the Car, and you were safe in assuming.

Reward: Thankfully, there was no event as Debbie begins her divorce proceedings and her retrieving the items that she owns.

Her ex-husband did not do anything to stop her, and any event that may have been used to stop or damage Debbie, Carrie, or Todd's future chances… were quickly quashed.

Next turn, you will discover just how well the divorce went.

[]The Todd Troubles: So… Todd stole one of your Camera… and he's trying to make something with it? What the hell is he even doing? DC: ??? Rolled:
D100 => 90

You realized something was weird when you saw the Camera that Todd was working on had a huge harness.

"Todd, what the hell is that?" You asked.

Todd looked away, barely noticing you. "Harness, to keep the camera steady, and to be moved more easily, instead of it being held on the shoulder or a tripod, it can be moved in front by using the torso." He then showed you the movement with the camera on the harness, however, he had to use both hands for the moment. "Not exactly the best idea, but I did want to patent it soon so that Mom can be happy. I've been talking to an engineer to try and find a way to make the camera lighter so that it can be held with both hands, and can be used by most operators."

He then set it down. "Unfortunately, the idea is too impractical." He then set the camera down, and he stretched his back. "Also really hurts your back."

Oh. "Still looks pretty cool?"

He smiled. "Hell yeah, it does."

"Where did you come up with that idea?" You asked.

Todd smiled. "Saw a picture of Carrie holding me when we were kids. Tied me up to hold me up for a picture. Just came to me after that."

Reward: Todd has invented a Harness for Movie Cameras, though right now, it is extremely impractical with the current camera designs in Hollywood. A step in the right direction for future Action cinematography everywhere.

[]The Three Amigos: You, Robin and John are going to have some fun times. Maybe that will make things easier for your mind. DC: 10/20/??? Rolled:
D100 => 86

It was almost too easy to get lost in the confusion that was Robin Williams, it was almost like his entire act was captivating, in such a way that it was hurting just to breathe in laughter.

But it was like watching the sun, because there was nothing stopping Robin from just being… everywhere.

Because that was how it was. "Robin stops it, I'm going to be sick!" You wheezed as you took breaths just to make yourself stay up.

"He needs to breath he says!" Robin smiled and laughed as he sauntered on over with a smile and a wink. "Say no more darling, I shall do what I do best!"

He then farted, and you laughed even more at the absolute perfectness and brilliance of the display, as he waved it. And then he stopped, clearly not ready for it as he grabbed his stomach in pain. "Shit." He then ran towards the bathroom, clearly uncomfortable and clearly about to go in his pants.

John was on the ground, wheezing at the display of comedy that was on display, and he couldn't stop laughing.

"Oh dear!" You said as you slapped John's back. "I think we need to be more careful around Robin's comedy sessions. Holy shit."

John coughed. "He's hilarious though, absolutely maddening that he's so good."

"Do anything interesting?" You asked John.

"Trying to get a TV role, been keeping very quiet about who I know." He replied. "But It's alright."

You knew that anyone that knew you that wasn't Hollywood royalty like Carrie or established like Bruce or Clint.

Well, anyone that did know you, or was friends with you, might be set in the wrong direction.

Then Robin came bounding out of the bathroom, a strip of toilet paper hanging on his pants, placed their purposely by the man himself. "Who's ready for round three!?"

Reward: You, John, and Robin have fun as Robin acts out one of his stand-up shows for rehearsing it.

It seems that you might have more bad blood in Hollywood than you thought.

Robin might be willing to teach you how to get some comedy in your blood if you ask.

John has a few roles he wants to bring to your attention and is asking for an opinion.

Carrie was smiling. That was more than enough to make you feel better after everything that happened.

"Sure I can't convince you to stay?" You asked as you looked at Debbie pestering Todd about what he was wearing. "Apartments going to be mightly lonely without you all."

Carrie smiled… and damn, did her smile make you feel something.

"I think we'll manage." She said. "Bruce… I can't thank you enough for-"

"Don't thank me." You replied with a smile. "Just, keep getting better. I'm sure you'll knock the socks off of Broadway when you're there with your mom."

She smiled. "Thanks, Bruce."

She then took a breath and took her chance.

It was an ambush of a kiss, one you were not ready for, but you both embraced and allowed the kiss to stay far longer than it should have had any right to.

All it made you feel was warmth and longing as she released it, and you both stepped back.

You were blushing red, and so was she, looking away. "And this is for you." She said, handing over a notebook. And in it, was a Completed Screenplay, between the pages, in order.

With a single title "Some Nights"

"Don't forget me." She said.

"Promise." You smiled. You then handed over a letter. "If you're ever in Hell's Kitchen, look up the Jumping Whale. Show the owner this, and you'll be treated like family."

Reward: Carrie and her family are leaving for New York, for a time to help rebuild their family, to get out of the debt and hole they are in.

And maybe to find out what they really want in this life.

Carrie has given you the completed Script for Some Nights.

You may now begin to shop it around for her if you wish. Or hold onto it.

-[X] Research: Renaissance (Pretty sure the free research bonus works, otherwise I've got nothing for sixth slot except write) Auto Pass

You had studied the Renaissance quite heavily in the coming month, though not near the level of someone who dedicated their career to studying the entire era.

But you did know enough about Italian politics of the era, and the people who would shape it, to make at least something of it.

Reward: Writing any sort of Renaissance project will see an increase in productivity, and in authenticity.

It will also lead to if you are part of any production set in Renaissance Italy, to correct and help around.

Certain Pitches can now be expanded on in the writing action.

AN: Enjoy.

Next Update will be THX 1138.

That was some really great stuff. I was starting to get a bit fearful that we were going to get stuck with low rolls and a few sporadic highs, but as always Magoose Dice seem to have struck once more and aside from prayer, which thankfully was not a crit fail and could be argued to be successful with everything else, we got pretty high stuff and the Reynolds family seems like they're about to start taking some Ws and rebuilding. Favorite part was us being a badass and putting Henry Karl in his place along with Carrie getting the nice crits. Although it probably won't make too much of a difference, the Helping Carrie trait gives a +10 to all Carrie actions so it should be 101 unless that was taken into account in the roll result.

Gonna miss Carrie stuff but at least she's happy, recovering and with her family and she'll probably come back next year and definitely by 1974, no reason long-distance love can't work. On the bright side this does give us more room for actions which will help in production terms and shoring up our boxing and apartment. Super excited for Reynolds-O'Brian fluff in official Quest stuff or Omakes.

Lastly, a thought I just had for future MASH stuff is that since Bruce speaks Chinese, then that means Radar Riley on the show can be the official interpreter character and be the guy who interacts with the prisoners and will probably be the focus of Chinese focused episodes. If the showrunners aren't explicitly going to fuck us each step, maybe we can do a whole character arc where Radar climbs up the ranks through intelligence work. We could also help on that front by learning Korean.

Other language stuff that would be cool to do is Japanese and Spanish. Spanish is a must considering the rise of Hispanic America in 21st century so it would be really good for business and for producing more movies with a latin cast and plot. Japan is on the rise and the 80s are going to see a Japanese invasion, and if we know Japanese we can watch anime without Subs and be the first to capitalize on lots of potential stories. Just imagine connecting George to Tomino or making a live action Lupin the 3rd!

Hyped for THX. Looking forward to doing a new film so that way we can diversify from MASH and help to turn around our reputation as a badboy.

Which they will..espescially when they get "bonus" funding from the CBS.

This might be a great time on M*A*S*H with our co-stars, a bad time for Radar Riley's Character Development..

I wonder if George started the script on Star Wars yet..it'd be funny if we made an Omake of him looking at a quarter-eaten hamburger likr a scientistist bwfore he invisions the Millenium Falcon.

Well, since Radar works as an administration and company clerk for the MASH, it means he is highly intelligent, and in the original show, he is also one of the company's radio operators and knows morse code.

So it wouldn't be any sort of stretch for him to learn a foreign language or two before he goes back to the states if he is able to, or if he's ordered to.

looks at the rolls.

Well. Hopefully.

It would be illegal under the contract we have for CBS to do that. They've already lost a lot of money to us, they are not in the mood to do that again.

Well, at least we will have one helluva time giving great on-screen performances.

Considering he started writing star wars after trying and failing numerous times to get the Flash Gordon Rights?

I can see that.

The Critics came back with middling reviews… Perhaps that was entirely expected from what you knew about the Critics.

Roger Ebert: "The movie's strength is not in its story but in its unsettling and weirdly effective visual and sound style. THX 1138" suffers somewhat from its simple storyline, but as a work of visual imagination it's special, and as haunting as parts of "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Silent Running" and "The Andromeda Strain.""

It was a good, even a great film if you asked those that actually saw the film, but what the suits cared about was money. The film did not make as much money as everyone wanted, especially after so many delays on the set, which the suits at warner brothers did not like.

It was in Theaters for less than a month before WB pulled the Plug.

The Audience loved it, but it didn't matter what they thought, because, halfway through a potential video tape production to earn money through rentals, they just stopped sending VHS tapes to the Video rental companies, stifling the possibility to make back their money by rentals, not even a month into release on VHS.

To say that the Studio just screwed Geroge, You, and Francis out of potentially another million dollars, in addition to what you already lost, that was projected from video rentals… merely made you pissed off even more.

But for George, it was devastating. He put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this film and was lucky that it was even Finished thanks to you.

But it wasn't meant to be. And all George was left with, was a reputation of going over budget, over schedule, and not meeting deadlines and expectations.

And that might kill his career.

If The studies didn't realize one thing...

George Lucas didn't back down. And he wouldn't give up after a setback of this magnitude, especially since, given all that they saw, in less then a month, it could have made tens of millions.

And he had a plan. A very good one.

AN:

George got Fucked.

But damn did people think he made a good film.

Also, just to remind you that Hollywood is run by idiots...

All that money that it made?

In one single month!

The only bright side?

It made back its budget, and made a small profit.

Somehow.

I rather not get WB mad at us since they could be a good source of film material. Maybe even investors. At least some profit was made. I bet there will be a cult following for the movie.

..now I can see why Lucasfilm was created.
It was created because George wanted control over his projects. Not because he was getting screwed over by the distributors.

Though now he might have more reason to do things for his own benefit.
I think you mean "How much can we help him"
Well, he has a fun little comedy he wants to work on he wrote during Pre Production, as a bet to Francis. One that he has been forced to put down while THX was delayed.

He's found someone who is willing to take it on, in Universal...

The problem is Universal thinks he's spoiled good and believes that he needs to prove himself

Universal gave him the gauntlet: He needs to get the entire film done in less than two months and hardly any crew he can count on, and no money whatsoever from producers of the usual bunch. So he's on his own to scramble to get anything more than twenty thousand dollars on hand.

What he has going for him, is a small cast that He earmarked while running around trying to get THX done that happen to live in the LA Area. He's a very skilled organizer and director, and right now, he's got everything ready and planned.

And he knows someone with lots of money who is a friend.

Well, the thing is, the profit is not nearly enough for them to justify a near year of delay even in a month.

They just go mad at this George Lucas and his science fiction movie and wanted to be done with him.

The Goose is gonna kiss Carrie on screen as Han Solo and have a Star Wars-themed wedding with Todd Fisher walking down Carrie to the Aisle dressed as Luke Skywalker or he's gonna die trying

American Graffiti starring and produced by Bruce O'Brian, LET'S FUCKING GO!!!

In other words, Bruce is now George's Sugar Daddy. Disney+ documentaries covering the two are sure to be fun.

Warner Bros be like:

So we gonna make this right now or sometime next year? And can we work on both MASH and Graffiti?

Also considering the film has a large ensemble cast and Harrison didn't get the leading role, that means we can act alongside him which is pretty cool. Would be fun to see the two share goldenboy status at Lucasfilm with Bruce for Star Wars and Ford for Indiana Jones. And for all of his faults I highly doubt Harrison would make any moves on Carrie when she's deeply committed to us, so I guess we could be decent friends.

If we can. That is the problem.

It won't begin until January of next year. And then you have three months.

You can work on both, but... it might lead to problems, if we don't do well.

At all.

Lets not count our chickens before they hatch my friend. Still need to get to January.
