Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

@Magoose, If we don't take the Star Wars action this turn, will that mean that George gets started without us? Or could we put off starting production for now in order to allocate actions away from Lucasfilm actions and into the Personal actions instead?

Do people want to do contract negotiations this turn? Because I've got a plan forming and it hinges on whether or not we should prioritize that.

THen it is correct.

I thought I screwed up somewhere.
So it's four actions for each? Awesome! We can do the Carrie and John options then?! HALLELLUJAH!

And just for that...we are also getting rid of that cockroach plague better known as Scientologists!

I thought it was 4 actions for MASH, 4 for Lucasfilm and Personal Actions. So it's 4 MASH, 4 Lucasfilm, and 4 Social?

My brain is not working right now and after such a stressful situation in writing the last update, its feeling like jelly.

And no, there is actually supposed to be 3 for MASH, and 5 for the rest.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. That being said, I do want to reiterate my earlier question, that is, if I'm not being rude by doing so. If we don't take the Star Wars action this turn, will that mean that George gets started without us?
George is starting, with or without you.

And if that means if we bail on him for a month, he's starting without you.

He's got Gary so its not like he dosen't have a producer...

Or money to spare.

I screwed up and its supposed to be 3 for Mash, 5 for everything else.
Oh...Well, at least we have an extra action for personal. So, we can take the Pre Production option, the Carrie option and the John option as well. Those are, I think, the ones that we really can't leave behind.

As for the other two, I'd go for learning Japanese since it's an autopass and making distirvution deals so that we have that done already.

I see. One more question, if it's not to much to ask. If we don't take one of the Eisner actions, is the business still being run properly? I would assume so but I'd just like to get confirmation on whether or not we need to dedicate an action to Eisner regularly in order to get the company to run.

You still have to do the actoin. Mostly because it needs to be done for balancing purposes.

Just because it autopasses, dosen't mean you can ignore it or get a free action because of it.

Mike is running the show if you don't directly get involved.

That can be a good thing, or a bad thing.

These are exceptionally non-pressing issues, though. I say we should put those off as we have way more potentially important things to cover this turn. Distribution deals maybe because of the bonuses we got for 2 turns, but I would still rather give up a turn of bonuses on distribution/importing films than miss out on some of the other actions

Yeah, which is why I said that we should take the option, which would cost us an action.

On the Japanese I guess I can see it, but the distribution is necessary. We already made a deal to distribute a foreign film, and we are a distribution company, so we need to have those ready now.

Do we? The update that covers this doesn't actually give us any time frame in order to do it. It probably wouldn't be good for us to do this, but we could probably put it off for a turn. Although, if we can figure out what other action to dump in favor of working out distribution, then I guess it's fine.

[X] Plan You've Got a Friend in Bruce
-[X]The Contract Negotiations: So it's that time of the Career again. Time to negotiate more contracts... hopefully there was something that will eye them (Linetail what you want from them)
--[X]$4,000 per episode appearence plus 6% of residuals.
-[X]The Wayne Wishfulness: You realized that he was not happy with the current things going on. Maybe you can help DC: 35
-[X]The Ego and Evasion of McLean Stevenson: There is clearly something that has struck him since you last saw him. Gone was his ego and his wish to talk to you in a more professional light. DC 40
-[X]The Beginning of A Long Pre-Production: So George has gathered you and Mike with his idea, and the script. He called it Star Wars, and he is in need of a lot of things. DC: 20 (Will begin a small mini-turn about the beginning of the Production of Star War
-[X]Distributing Deals: Since you have a Distribution Company, or rather, are one… You can meet the major movie theater companies and strike a Deal with them. Even when you had really nothing to offer them. DC: ???
-[X]The Wonderful Life of Carrie Fisher: So Carrie has come to you with some fun stories on set, as well, as her own insecurities. DC: 40
-[X] Debbie Details: Carrie is working on her film, so why did Debbie call you to her home? DC: ???
-[X]The Roll of a Lifetime: John looked at you and felt shame as he asked. "I need your help Bruce. Can you help me?" DC: ???

Okay so this is my tentative plan for the turn, HUGE thanks to @overmind for his comments which really helped to put things into perspective and help me on what to prioritize. Up above are the seven which I feel what we have to do no matter what
  1. Contract: Always best to get this out of the way and make sure you have a strong contract and aren't fucked over. Since we have tons of star power, I figured it'd be best to actually have a reliable salary instead of just going for the SAG minimum. 4k per episode leads to 100k a season, and without residuals that would make us the cheapest of the main cast in terms of base payment. The reason I included the eight episode option is so that if films or personal stuff gets in the way, we have the option to not appear in order to free up action spaces but still make it clear we are committed to the majority and this is only an option, not that we definitively want to be in less episodes. If people feel this is unnecessary, then I would bump up the residuals to 6%
  2. Wayne: Wayne is going to leave the show in Season 3 if nothing is changed and considering we made peace with him and are friends, this is probably a needed choice.
  3. McLean: Same as above, McLean is set on leaving and perhaps this is best to keep him here, though he seems more inclined to stay than Wayne.
  4. Star Wars Pre-Production: An absolute necessity to cementing Bruce in a leadership role for Star Wars and balancing out Eisner's increased power, will really help with vision and hopefully cement Bruce's place as George's heir.
  5. Distribution: We got a film lined up, and if we want to secure future deals it would probably be best to show we are reliable by having a distribution system in place.
  6. Carrie always comes first.
  7. John is in obvious pain, is heavily stressed out with his mess of a career, and so we need to be a bro and help him to get the perfect film role. Plus I feel if we succeed with this then it would play a huge role in negating John's downfall to scientology since he has a strong support group and will have secured a major role to help prove himself.

[]Importing Foreign Films: So… you may have a way to get some films showing in American Theaters. Maybe you can go to other foreign film industries and… well, ask to distribute their films. Sure many of those foreign film companies never expected an American company to distribute their films in the US… but maybe you can get money without producing them. (Linetail where you try to get films from, and if there are any specific films, line tail them below) DC: ???
[] Research stuff, see if anything piques your interest: You may have graduated High School as a kid, but you never stopped trying to learn. DC: 15 (Write-in what you want to learn about below)
--[] Learn Japanese: Autopass

Now I'm very unsure of what to place for the eight option so here are my top three picks for such. Importing foreign films to take advantage of the bonus and get Way of the Dragon, but we will fortunately have that +20 next turn so we can always push for that. Debbie stuff because this will hopefully tie in with the Carrie thing and explained why Debbie wanted Carrie to work outside of Lucasfilm. And learn Japanese because the Autopass only applies to this turn.

We still get the bonus next turn, so I say put off importing. Auto-passing on learning Japanese may only apply to this turn, but the use of it would come much later and we have MANY turns to get that sorted, so I say we put that off as well. The Debbie action is probably time sensitive and important for the relationship with Carrie. I think that the Debbie action is the best to take here.

I was goiong to make a case for learning Japanese, but you do make a good point about Debbie and how this could be important for Carrie. Alright, I guess we can try and learn japanese next turn, but we better do it then! I want us to go to japan and get the rights to distribute Toho films and learning Japanese can be the one small detasil that will give us an edge.

Okay so I think there's a relative consensus. Now then that leaves the question, should contract negotiations see a residuals bump or the option to opt out of up to 8 episodes?

Personally, I'd go for residuals. The option to opt out of 8 episodes feels a bit too out there when we are still doing the thrid season, even for the #1 show in America. I say let's wait until the 4th or 5th season before we ask something like that.

That's my take of course, not sure what the rest think.
