[ ] [Vale] Offer to purchase the Gotham Gazette and give Vicki Vale a substantial promotion

[ ] [Vale] Offer to promote Vicki Vale on Handshake in exchange for her writing more articles you'd approve of
[ ] [Vale] Write-in

From every indication Vicki wants to move up in the world. I think either of the first two options she will accept. However, do we want to buy Gotham Gazette? Having property in Gotham seems like a bad idea imo. I would rather offer Vicki being in charge of the news company we are creating. I'm not sure of her stats, but a hero unit is a hero unit. Also a hero unit is even better when they are relatively normal person like Vicki.

[ ] [Town] Head to the Koromodako restaurant to meet with the Carp
[ ] [Town] Search for Silver Monkey on your own

For me this is between meeting the Carp and getting to know the police. From quick google searching the Carp is a an ex-spy that turned into a gang leader in Gotham. We have so far staunchly refused to get involved heavily with more common criminals. However; those that we have talked to, Selina and Oswald, have given some interesting opportunities without that much investment. Carp could be a continuation of that and I'm leaning towards that because of it.

[ ] [Arkham] Harleen Quinzel and the Joker
[ ] [Arkham] Victor Zsasz
[ ] [Arkham] Dr. Anne Carver
[ ] [Arkham] Julian Day
[ ] [Arkham] Basil Karlo
[ ] [Arkham] Harvey Dent

[ ] [Arkham] Thomas Carma
[ ] [Arkham] Charles Nigaff
[ ] [Arkham] Camilla Ortin
[ ] [Arkham] Gretchen Whistler and Simpson Flanders
[ ] [Arkham] Alyce Sinner

Oh god the choices. First, I'm fine abandoning Quin to the Joker. Don't really want to talk to the absolutely hopeless crazies, so no Joker, Zsasz, Day, Dent, and Thomas Carma. These people I think are crazy enough that they aren't worth the effort, only talk if we want to possibly do a favor for them or introduce ourselves to them for later collaboration.

For possible recruits: -Dr. Anne Carver ( @Negation she isn't Jane Doe yet, because "Miss Doe" is called out in the update) seems like someone who is on the up and up. My only worry would be by the time she accepts our offer Jane Doe has taken her identity. That would be BAD.
-Gretchen Whistler and Simpson Flanders seem just like good peoples. Nice choices for poaching.
-Charles Nigaff strangles that line between bad/good. He is a good psychologist, but (and this is a big BUT) he also gave people Venom to manipulate them and help him force them to fight against crime. Not my first choice certainly.
-Alyce Sinner is a BIG nope from me. I don't want to recruit someone with divided loyalties like that. Her main love interest became the second Black Mask. While he might not be Black Mask yet, still not sure I want to deal with it if that happens.
-Bethanie Ravencroft works for the League or Silver Monkey. Not sure we want to engage, but maybe Talia recognizes her? If she does than we'll know which faction she works for, but not sure how that is relevant to us.

Now for interesting people. I don't think these people are so insane that we can't work with them in a more consistent way:
-Basil Karlo is hard to peg down. His ability is extremely useful; however, I don't know any of his motivation. Sometimes its to act great "roles" out, some times he seems like a regular criminal and other times Clayface's motivations aren't explored at all. I wouldn't mind talking to him and lowkey saying "if you get out again seek me out and you'll get a wonderful job" How do people feel about that?
-Camilla Ortin and Margaret Pye seem just like regular thieves. Nothing that special, but hey maybe they are easy to recruit because of that? You know, if they ever get out...but on the other hand theycould be great examples of us reforming criminals since they don't seem to crazy.

As for locations I don't really know. Willing to hear out other people while I think more on it.

That's actually deliberately ambiguous. Miss Doe could be referring to Jane Doe or it could be referring to Cordelia Doe as both of them were patients in Arkham Asylum. I won't clarify on the matter further but I do think that's something you should be aware of. So the "Miss Doe" called out in the update (who I believe Anne Carver meets in the time frame of the tour) could be two very different characters.
Camilla Ortin and Margaret Pye seem just like regular thieves
Nothing to clarify regarding Camilla but Margaret was a high profile member of the Menagerie who got caught by Batman.

So a high profile member of the Menagerie just happens to be talking to the one psychologist that has possible ties to the League huh? Yeah NOTHING at all is happening there. Totally normal. I do admit that inclines me to vote that option just because of how interesting the possible situation is...

Vicki: I really like this write-in and I want to try and recruit her. We can pick as many options as we want, so if people want to give an interview and try to recruit they should vote for both.

Arkham: These are the 3 options I lean towards. Actually useful nonfucked psychologist. Who knows how far Quin is down Joker path and if he is intrested enough in her already to get mad if we poach her. 100% not worth the risk imo. Basil because I think he is the most interesting non-recruit encounter. Eventually there is going to be a breakout and if Basil is opaquely offered something if he comes to our service? Maybe in a few turns time we have a new metahuman. He is the sort of person that I'm willing to deal with a little craziness just for his abilities and talking to him might give insight into how crazy he is. The Bethanie Ravencroft and Margaret Pye situation is just so fascinating to me that I would like to check it out. I openly acknowledge that this might not be the best use of our encounter, but there are so many possibilities surrounding it that I'm intrigued. Decided against Anne Carver because that is a risk I'm not sure I want.
*Edit* Despite my ever burning curiosity about Bethanie Ravencroft and Margaret Pye I've decided to switch to Alyce Sinner. Later arguments have made her interesting to me and there hasn't been enough arguments against her that feel strong yet.

Menagerie: Voted for this last time incorrectly

Trip: Gotham University for trying to scope out some more talent. Paige Monroe because she seems like she may be an easy recruit for later. Heroes for the Hero Throne! Picked the last option as Aleister Golden because I'm interested in this cult plot he has going. Could be another interesting source of magic or allies even if they are on the more evil side. This is the option I'm least attached to though, so I can be convinced off of it.
*Edit* Was convinced that despite my interest in Aleister that it probably would accomplish less than Gotham Academy overall.

Just a generally good plan in my opinion
[X] [Arkham] Gretchen Whistler and Simpson Flanders
[X] [Arkham] Basil Karlo
[X] [Arkham] Bethanie Ravencroft and Margaret Pye

Two legitimately good psychiatrists that we could potentially poach, one interesting inmate and two very suspicious people

Any evidence one way or the other?
That's a tricky question to answer

In basically every iteration she's been portrayed as a very talented psychology student that graduated at or near the top of the class, some versions have suggested that she did this through sexual favours rather than merit though that tends to be portrayed as a characters bias rather than fact, and got a fairly prestigious position at Arkham

The issue is that it's not clear whether she was a genuinely good psychologist that Joker turned insane or she had pre-existing undiagnosed mental issues that made it naturally easier for her to relate to and manipulate other crazy people and the Joker just brought that aspect of her personality to the forefront

Either way she's always displayed a fair amount of talent in her field, the main question in whether or not she's worth recruiting are A) Is she already off the deep end and B) How invested is the Joker in her?

As it stands I'm a little to worried about the latter to risk it

Okay. So... what have we got here? What do we want, and how can we get it?

- Vicki Vale: We want to leverage our publicity spike for her benefit and our own. We want to try to undermine Lois Lane, especially in her glowing descriptions of Superman, we want to help sell the idea that we're doing the important work of saving humanity, and we want to at least take a look at the idea of putting together opposition to the Daily Globe. We do not want to go treading inappropriately in Batman's back yard.

[X] [Vale] Offer to have Vicki Vale in charge of the news company you are forming in Metropolis if she is willing to move there
[X] [Vale] Offer Vicki Vale an interview on your thoughts about the current state of the world (please write-in what you'd like to talk about)
-[X] Give Vicki the privilege of being the first to know a few juicy details about some of what LexCorp's doing next. Preferably pick things that aren't necessarily important overall, but where the "first to report" advantage for her would be particularly nice - one of those leak before the declaration things that so absorb those who wish to be In The Know. Perhaps drop word on which parties you will and won't be at, and say an appreciative word or two for Wayne on his Metropolis fundraiser.
-[X] Talk about the various good work that LexCorp is doing. Try to throw something interesting in there too.
-[X] Undermine Lois Lane in her overly glowing reportage on Superman. Note how it seems so unlike her previous dogged investigations. Imply that perhaps she's a bit infatuated with the man, possibly without realizing it. It would explain so much
-[X] Bring up your work with the Metahuman School in contrast with Superman - how the school is helping young metahumans (many from miserable backgrounds) learn how to recover and integrate into society, and how Superman seems to be a shining example of how to go out and get yourself killed trying to face down criminals without knowing what you're doing. Use that as a jumping-off point for laying out a coherent overall anti-Superman position.
[X] [Vale] Offer to promote Vicki Vale on Handshake in exchange for her writing more articles you'd approve of

Something like that.

Chinatown... Carp's a briefly effective gangster who had a giant squid. He's got nothing that we want. Silver Monkey is a Martial Artist/Assassin with a schtick. We have enough killers on the payroll, really, and if I wanted to acquire one up here, I'd go for Lady Shiva rather than this guy. Ellen Yin is a highly competent police officer. We might want to talk with her if we want to start getting more info on the GCPD... but it's looking like most of the ways for actually leveraging that are counterproductive, overall, so I'm not particularly motivated to. Given that...

[X] [Town] Buy Cassandra a gift from an interesting shop here

For Arkham, we're looking for recruits. We want people who are tolerant of things getting a bit dark here and there, but who aren't completely crazy/broken/psycho. Criminal past is a minus, but possibly still workable. If possible, it woudl be nice to get a psychologist who can deal with having half-mad research scientists ranting at them without getting too worked up about it.

No:
[ ] [Arkham] Victor Zsasz
- No. Pure poison.
[ ] [Arkham] Dr. Anne Carver
- Not necessarily mentally flexible enough. Might be Jane Doe. No.
[ ] [Arkham] Julian Day
- I'm not seeing any benefit to acquiring Calendar man. He's broken in all the wrong ways, and this version isn't even a gadgeteer.
[ ] [Arkham] Harvey Dent
- Criminal/Crazy is not so hot, and his noncriminal skills are as a lawyers. Finding lawyers who are willing to deal with mild criminality just isn't that hard.
[ ] [Arkham] Humphry Dumpler and Jervis Tetch
- Humphrey is somewhat mentally disabled, and while he has some gadgeteer skill, he's mostly known for taking things apart and putting them back together wrong. Jervis is deeply criminal and unlikley to change. The mind-control effects are potentially interesting, but they're also a PR nightmare waiting to happen. Not worth it.
[ ] [Arkham] Thomas Carma
- "Crazy cop who thinks he's Batman" doesn't really have a lot to offer us.
[ ] [Arkham] Charles Nigaff
- A psychologist who's MO is "get the kids addicted to Venom, forcibly if necessary, and then wield them as a weapon". Can't be trusted. No.
[ ] [Arkham] Camilla Ortin
- Skilled at dancing, with a thing for mime crimes? Worthless.
[ ] [Arkham] Alyce Sinner
- Protege and also probably-girlfriend of Jeremiah Arkham means that we're highly unlikely to be able to acquire her. Not worth the time. Might have been useful, otherwise.

Maybe
[ ] [Arkham] Basil Karlo
- He's got a nonstandard physiology, decent combat abilities and an excellent ability to mimic people. We can use that. On the downside, he's got major rage issues, and a criminal record that it might to take him a while to work through. Still... this one might be decent recruitment bait, if we can figure out what he wants enough to really get hooks into him.
[ ] [Arkham] Bethanie Ravencroft and Margaret Pye
- Maggie Pye is at best somewhat crazy and a thief, and not really worth our time. Bethanie is a psychiatrist, and at least somewhat willing to do villainy... but it's not clear whether or not the Brotherhood of Assassins has its hooks in her yet, and she's shown herself willing to indulge in treachery. That's... not ideal.
[ ] [Arkham] Gretchen Whistler and Simpson Flanders
- Looks like these are both psychologists who are legitimately trying to help their patients get better. That's good in some ways, but it's hard to tell if they'd be blase about the crazy people we have working for us. Worse yet, we wouldn't necessarily know until after we'd admitted to having said crazy people on staff. Also, realistically, we can hire standard psychologists. It's not that hard. WE're comign to arkham for the crazy-tolerance, and I'm not convince these two have it.

Yes
[ ] [Arkham] Harleen Quinzel and the Joker
- If we can get Harleen free of the Joker, she's nearly ideal. I think we've got a decent shot at it. I'd like to try.
[ ] [Arkham] Arnold Wesker, Doctor Faustus and Aaron Cash
- Wesker is a no. All of his skills are gangster skills. Dr Faustus is a charismatic criminal mastermind with a specialty in breaking people with mindgames. He might well be useful if we could sic him on Superman of Lois Lane, but that sort fo thing is a pretty risky play, and otherwise I honestly don't want him takign an interest in our people. Cash, though - Cash is very solid. He's a security guard, but if we can get him, I think we want him.

So... looking at the list of maybes, picking one....

[X] [Arkham] Harleen Quinzel and the Joker
[X] [Arkham] Arnold Wesker, Doctor Faustus and Aaron Cash
[X] [Arkham] Basil Karlo

Menagerie deal... I really don't see the downside to having an orphanage in Metropolis. We'll probably want one of our own in the city at some point anyway, and it's good politics.
[X] [Menagerie] You'll pay for orphanages in Metropolis as well as transport to those orphanages for child members of the Menagerie in exchange for a favor from Selina Kyle later on down the line

For the trip plannign subvote? We want recruits. To my eyes, that means that the two universities are obvious picks. Playing nice with Wayne means skipping the clinic and the GCPD, I don't see any good that could come of hitting Blackgate or the Whale, I dont' see any particular reason to visith the History Museum or the Tricorner District. Paige Munroe might be useful, if we can use it as a way to pull her back into our TV channel. Talkign with the Menagerie might also have some value, though not as recruitment exactly. Aliester Golden is the leader of an evil cult, and we'd likely do well to stay away. Matches Malone continues to be Batman, and tracking him down is likely to be both frustrating and counterproductive. We've pushed that link as far as we have any reason to push it for right now. Speakign with Lady Shiva might be useful if we wanted another assassin? I don't know. She's better than Silver Monkey, but I'm still nto thrilled. Julie Madison was the pro-Menagerie artist we met before. Paul Dekker is a semi-crazy scientist studyign the flesh, so there's some potential there. Gregorian Falstaff is al Ghul's man, and not really worth our time. so... the ones I think potentially worth our while...

Yes:
[ ] [Trip] Take a tour of Gotham Academy
[ ] [Trip] Take a tour of Gotham University

Maybe:
[ ] [Trip] Meet with Paige Monroe
[ ] [Trip] Meet with Selina and important members of the Menagerie
[ ] [Trip] Speak with the woman who fought with the Batman
[ ] [Trip] Meet with Julie Madison and Paul Dekker

and for my (pick from the above...

[X] [Trip] Take a tour of Gotham Academy
[X] [Trip] Take a tour of Gotham University
[X] [Trip] Meet with Julie Madison and Paul Dekker

Though in the case of "which Maybe", I could certainly be convinced.

[ ] [Arkham] Gretchen Whistler and Simpson Flanders
- Looks like these are both psychologists who are legitimately trying to help their patients get better. That's good in some ways, but it's hard to tell if they'd be blase about the crazy people we have working for us. While I'm not sure of Whistler, Flanders definitely has the crazy tolerance. He was kidnapped by the Riddler and still went out to help inmates. He worked with them until his untimely death by Croc. Of all the psychologist we could recruit he is the one I want the most. Sane, can deal with crazy and actually wants to help with people.

So... just to respond to that... voting for her now isn't a matter of trying to recruit her immediately. It's a matter of interacting with her and the Joker and getting more information. That should give us a better idea of whether it's safe to recruit the woman or not. Thus far, the indications that we've seen suggest that she's comfortable around him, but nothing further than that.

Also, just to compact my vote down a bit....

My Vicki vote was way more involved than Plan PR, but very similar in nature. Might as well go with the more distilled version, especially since everyone else already likes it. Otherwise, this is a copy-paste of the votes from my analysis post above.

edit: also, I found out that Dekkar was the AV guy version of Crazy Quilt rather than the Flesh Scientist version, which make me a lot less interested in him. I've swapped him out for Paige Monroe.

Maybe. Honestly, though, something about that man makes my stomach twist. The positivity is just so... blindly relentless, in that "blatantly built off of Ned Flanders" way. We need someone who won't freak out when our doctor starts ranting about horrific experiments, sure, but we also need someone who our people are willing to go to, and I'm not convinced Flanders can do that.

It's a gut reaction, but it's quite real.

As for Vale:-

[ ] [Vale] Offer to have Vicki Vale in charge of the news company you are forming in Metropolis if she is willing to move there
-[ ] [Vale] (If the above offer fails) Offer to promote Vicki Vale on Handshake in exchange for her writing more articles you'd approve of

This way we assure there was no offense taken if she says no and she gets ahead of Lois Lane in the Information Age.

[ ] [Arkham] Arnold Wesker, Doctor Faustus and Aaron Cash
- Wesker is a no. All of his skills are gangster skills.
Wesker (DCAU) is a maybe and only if he undergoes lots of therapy. Could we steer him towards Voice Acting for Ozzy's cartoons?

He's usually murdered a bunch of people by that point. Not necessarily the guy we want working for our children's channel in a role that shows up in the credits.

Still, that trio is worth checking out for Cash, if nothing else. If Wesker turns out to be higher-value than he first appeared, we can adjust then.

Speakign with Lady Shiva might be useful if we wanted another assassin? I don't know.

Just thought I'd comment on this even if you didn't vote for it, but uh....we really don't want Lady Shiva. From her interlude one of her big goals is killing her daughter, which is now our daughter. I can see taking this option just to get a read on her character so we know she wants to kill our daughter, but otherwise lets hope someone kills her.
