Heh, we have a close fight between botany and Improved banking fighting for the 8th place in the tally. I hope banking will win because I want to get nice cool armor but if Botany will win here Pamela goes to botany. I don't expect her liking us more for just doing her job so I think it is irrelevant. And I like the potential of plant fiber armor.

There are also some underdogs who may get there but are still quite far away from top 8 and need quite a few additional votes

[] Assassinate Jason Woodrue - NO! NO! NO! The upside is nice, sure. Prevents future problems and everything. I understand the logic. But possible low roll is devastating for our reputation should public\law enforcements learn we do such things. Imagine rolling 5... Even if we put Mercy here (taking her away from security) risks are huge. Always take the worst scenario into account. It is 33% chance to outright fail. Bare successes are usually problematic too

[] Hire Ex-Cons - Fine low DC action. I prefer it over botany and will be happy to see it raising to 8th

[] Learn about robotics - fine synergy with professor Ivo. May fail without hero but such fail shouldn't result in something disastrous.

[] Go green - Going for improving Pamela opinion is good and I am kinda sad that current top 8 has nothing for this. Yet, I am a bit worried that with 38 DC and likely no Luthor it can backfire and actually disappoint Pamela. But it is a reasonable risk for getting 9th action

[X] Meet with Lucy Lane to reassure her
[X] The A.M.A.Z.O. project
[X] Go green
[X] Build Ivo housing in a sublab
[X] Investigate inside the company
[X] Tighten security
[X] Improve banking and payment service on phone
[X] Improve armor

I feel that we definitely should improve our coop score with Pamela, so we can get that extra action.

Well, let's look at our options for improving cooperation with Pamela

[] Donate to the public (not 100% reliable, it is an indirect effect, Pamela can be assigned to the action)
[] Throw a company party (Not sure if it also works on heroes in addition to regular employees)
[] Collaborate with a rival company (to try to negotiate some eco-friendly project. Pamela may do it herself)
[] Improve Pamela Isley's lab space (depends on how much she cares for a better lab)
[] Build food production facilities (a big stretch of maybe on some high)
[] Go green (The most straightforward one. But it is high DC stewardship action and doesn't seem great for business. You do sacrafice efficiency for going green)
[] Create Vegan meat substitute + [ ] Compost those two are weird ones for me. Probably Pamela will view it positively)
[] Purchase real estate (and then use that land for something Pamela will like)
[] Lead an expedition to find rare plants and animals (Sadly a stewardship action so we can't just assign Pamela and expect great result. And you don't go to wilderness when Assasins hunt you.
[ ] Learn more about engineering (in case if we choose eco-friendly options like solar power, etc. Will probably need additional stewardship action later)
[] Have Pamela and Luthor work together (Needs a realy high roll, has sense only for learning and diplomacy. Not sure we can afford another turn of Luthor not focusing attention at the war)

Any I missed?

@King crimson will the world news be it own interlude?
Yes

Hard Lessons

Pamela was nervous. It was her first official day at the new job and the young scientist was nervously expecting her first assignment from Lex Luthor. Yet her boss seemed to have some more important stuff to do and tired of waiting Pamela decided to grab a fresh issue of Daily Planet. She didn't know enough about Metropolis and reading the most popular newspaper seemed like a good idea to learn more.

It was only a matter of time until Pamela found the interview given by her boss to a local journalist. At first, she liked how the conversation went. This Lois Lane had a similar set of suspicions about Lex Luthor as Pamela. He is indeed putting too much emphasis on his name, he seems authoritative, some details of his past are suspicious. Then red-headed scientists reached the point when she herself was mentioned and Dr. Isley's beautiful eyes went wide in shock.

"He couldn't say her that. He couldn't. Such a brilliant man would never lower himself to this no matter what problems our relationships had" Pamela kept saying to herself rereading that part of the interview again and again.

So, when Lex Luthor eventually did come to her laboratory, he found her sitting near the newspaper with watery eyes. "I see that you have read that article." He said calmly "I hope it won't influence the level of your work"
"No mister Luthor." Pamela quickly answered doing everything to not let her voice to tremble. She hated to be spotted in such moment of weakness and only know she understood that there is a very good chance that he actually believed Woodroe's word. After all why one wouldn't believe such a brilliant man. "Just put me to a test. Tell me what product you want me to develop and I'll start immediately to deliver the best I can."

Lex gave her a rather warm slime "I am sure you can a lot. But your first assignment won't be to this lab. I want you to accompany me to Gotham"

"To Gotham?" Dr. Isley asked in surprise.

"Yes. To Gotham. Pamela, LexCorp is a big family and we don't take attacks on our family members lightly. Time for doctor Woodroe to learn this. And your knowledge of him will help me" Luthor's voice sounded different any other time Pamela talked with him. There was steel in his voice. She didn't even find mental strength to object that such a brilliant man as Woodroe is too important for the wellbeing of humanity to take hostile actions against him. The only thing she said back "As you wish mister Luthor. I am ready to go any moment"

...................

Three weeks passed since they arrived in Gotham. She was in one of the local LexCorps' buildings waiting for her boss once again. Pamela still couldn't believe that Luthor would dedicate so much of his personal attention to this when he has a multibillion corporation to run. They already learned quite a lot of unpleasant thing about her former professor and lover. He stole money from the university. He accepted bribes. He cheated her with at least one other student. She couldn't understand how such a brilliant man could fall this low. At least, she thought, all of this is soon to be over and she'll get back to her real work. If she only knew what will Luthor bring this time

"Here" Luthor went straight to the point right after entering to the room "My men acquired some of Woodroe's journals and other stuff. I glanced over it, it is all about botany. I am sure you can make sense of it sooner than I"

"What do you mean acquired? Did they steal it? It is i-" Pamela shut herself up noticing how Luthor looks at her disapprovingly "very well, I'll look at it."

................

She was in Metropolis again. In her lab. She was reading all those disgusting journals again for the first time since the shock she received in Gotham. This time to catalog it and use in her further researches. Her hate for Woodroe grew with each new line. He casually described how he used the pheromone to seduce her. How she became more submissive in relationships with him. How she started to admit his briliance more often. But the worst part was yet to come. One simple line. "Perhaps Pamela can be the first test subject for injecting plant cells in a human"

"What a brilliant idea to use me as a lab rat, bastard" Pamela said aloud and then completely lost control over herself. Calling his idea brilliant was the last straw. She was still under the influence of the pheromone. It is when calm and shy young scientists started to smash nearby expensive equipment in a blind fury.

When Mercy arrived to Pamela's lab she found the botanist breathing heavily in a quite damaged lab.

"Do you have any idea how many thousands of dollars you just ruined?" Security chief asked crossing her arms at her chest. She was sounding annoyed because she was annoyed. Both League and Ivo were driving her mad and when automated security system reported noise in Pamela she assumed that someone went after one of two Luthor's high profile scientists she didn't want to strangle.

"I... I am sorry. It is just..." Then Pamela proceeded telling Mercy everything that happened. She needed to let it out of herself and Mercy was the best candidate available

"It is a pity that I am busy with all those idiots trying to kill Luthor" Mercy said after hearing the whole story. "Else that guy would have lost more than his job. But you know, hippy, " Mercy often called Pamela that "just accept the fact that men are pigs. Woodroe, Ivo, all are the same. They think they are better than us. They try to use us. They don't care about us. Don't let them to get your skin"

"Yes. You are right. I'll never let any other man do something like this to me" Pamela said with a cold determination in her voice. "But not all men like this scum, right? Lex treats me very differently"

"Lex is one in billion" Mercy replied with a smile "Of course he is different. But others are more like Ivo just less ugly"

"Don't start about Ivo... I barely resist my urge to strange him. " Pamela looked around at the devastation she caused and sighed "Looks like I'll need to work some time for free"

"Don't worry, I'll have it all replaced. But next time, when you'll want to break things, just go to the shooting range, OK?"

"OK" Pamela smiled and returned to an unpleasant task of cataloging Woodroe's discoveries.

Not sure how canon this may be. But I am aiming at a much softer version of Pamela going "all men are sexist pigs to be exploited" then in canon and still having some parallels with canon
The world's worst professor's name is Jason Woodrue. I'll admit I found it funny how everyone found different ways to spell his name but if you want it to be canon you need to change that at the very least (some grammar stuff should also be checked since there are a few dropped words). I'll probably come back to it later to see if it is canon or not but right now I'm going to hold off on making a decision

Grundy is weird because he fluctuates between categories. At his most powerful he is a 2 (when he is an avatar of The Black/The Rot) and at his weakest he is at about a 6 (mindless zombie). It's dependent on if any entities are piggy backing on him and his state of mind. He also is weird to try and classify in this system since he doesn't generally cast magic but instead had his own properties altered. The system is used to rank magic users and it's a debate to what degree Grundy counts as a user.

speaking of The Rot what about the Green, The Red, and The Clear

the reason i ask is because i am a fan of Animal Man and The Red is a New 52 thing if i remember right, so i want to know if they are present in this quest?

It's Hard to get Good Help
It's Hard to Get Good Help
"Seriously? These are the best applicants?"

Lex Luthor looked at the three files on his desk, each one with a resume and photo of the three best applicants to be LexCorp's new PR director. Mercy, his right-hand woman, was currently over his right shoulder looking at the files herself. She shrugged.

"What did you expect, Lex? A bad interview is the sort of stuff that Public Relations officers salivate over- but ninja-assassin-terrorists who are still unidentified trying to kill your boss? That's too much for most to take. I mean, PR is cut-throat, but most don't mean that literally," she said.

Lex sighed and pulled the first applicant: Fay Moffit.

"So, the ones who actually applied are those who are desperate, unskilled, or believe they can handle an occasional assassination attempt?"

"Sounds right to me."

"So, that explains why a former stunt-woman applied- but why do you think she's a top three? Seems she has a history of violence and lots of scandals herself. The entire reason for me hiring a PR person is to avoid scandal."

Mercy walked around from behind Lex to standing in front of his table. She put her hands up to hold Lex up.

"Now, hold on. I didn't say these are the people I'd suggest. I was just saying these were the best of the applicants: you should have seen some of the rejects. One was just a guy who claimed that you were a member of the illuminati and that he wanted to represent the secret organization."

"Huh. Okay: Veronica Sincalir looks okay. And her photos are...wow. Enjoys the finer things in life. Not exactly the image I want to project."

"Says the billionaire wearing a suit more expensive than most cars."

"The difference is I have taste: this suit has an understated elegance that acknowledges my place in the world while not being overbearing about it. Hers is...let's just say that she's not Anna Wintour."

Mercy laughed at that.

"Meow, Lex. Didn't know you had a mean girl in you."

"Its not mean girl, just explaining to my trusty friend the difference between showy, gaudy expense and taste. And how one is not good for PR and the other puts you on magazines as an example of fashion to be copied. If I didn't have so much on my plate to do revolutionizing various industries while fending off an attack from a secret terrorist organization, I'd revolutionize the fashion industry, too."

"...yeah. The last candidate looks good."

Lex pulled the file for the last candidate. Miranda Tate.

"Yes. Too good," Lex mused aloud.

"Yeah, my gut is just screaming that something is off with her. Who has a clean record like that and then decides to work for a company under threat of ninja-assassin attack? Someone suspicious, that's who."

With a sigh, Lex tossed the file back on his desk.

"Seems like the best candidate is, as usual: myself. I just have other things I'd prefer to focus my attention on. Maybe we'll try another recruitment, someday."

"Yeah. Maybe. By the way, Lex: why didn't you already have a PR firm? LuthorCorp has been around for a long while, and the rebranding was a good time to get a PR team, wasn't it?"

"Didn't really need one. When you're designing weapons that cost millions to kill from miles away, your customer base is pretty limited. Press was something we avoided. But, with the cell phone revolution...well, apparently people have to be convinced that the company making their lives better isn't evil."

Lex just shook his head. This is why the masses needed the direction and leadership of someone like him: they just didn't know better. Still, a king had to keep his subjects happy.

The green and the red are definitely things (they aren't tied to the new 52). I'm less comfortable working with the clear so I'd have to get back to you on that. The Gray is also definitely a thing.

Mercy, his right-hand man
Mercy is female. She'd be his right hand woman

Other than that this one is good enough to be a Canon omake. Please correct the flaw and I'll add threadmark it and give you 500 exp

@King crimson would []Create a Search Engine work as a write in? We are playing as the head of an evil megaxorp, so we might as well emulate the most promenent real life example.

[x] Begin development of combat exosuit
[x] Fold the police into your organization
[x] Not a Bribe
[x] Recruit from injured veterans

We need a lot more people and guns. Ivo can do exosuit while Pam start on compost. PR and guns are king now.

Replaced our favorite totally non-creep professor's surname with the correct one, reworded some sentences, fixed grammar issues (spotted ones) here and there.

Would it be possible for the turn options to be put on Spoilers from now on? Because that was murder on my phone.

Oh, sorry my mistake, it is 5 years until the Alien arrives.

However, I'm pretty sure each year is four turns (that why we are getting World News at the end of this turn), am I right, @King crimson?
World news comes at the end of every year (to help keep you from getting completely blindsided by stuff you should know
Then he's making a mistake.
Development of the exosuit involves user integration which is why I'm counting it as martial (it also solely affects martial actions). There is always a reason why I put stuff in the category I do beyond just game balance. Should I make that distinction more clear so people read more carefully what category things fall into?
[ ] Physics (since we have bio and chem why not)
[ ] Teleportation
[ ] Life Model Decoy (we have literal ninja after lex this would be useful it can start as peolpe looking like lex to full blown LMD from marvel)
I'll accept physics and tweak the lmd to being hire body doubles. LMD tech requires robots and holograms first and will be available way down the line. Teleportation will be available later so it is rejected. Have 200 exp

All of these sentences have issues. Please fix them and I'll make the omake canon

I can do this going forward from here.
