So hmm... what were the possible options for her because Circe would be bad since she has beef with Diana. Also interest in Jinx... no we collect magic users not others!

Updated spreadsheet with new magician, did anyone besides Marie get XP spent on their stats?

You recruit mostly supervillains and Marie has a lot of anger and insecurity that makes her difficult to get along with. That plus a lack of intelligence of martial skill makes her a bit of a pariah (she has really little to relate to people with and the individuals who do have overlapping interests or life experience she has either isolated or befriended).

Others are mean to Marie but Marie is arguably meaner to several of them even more (Oswald, Felicity etc.)
Note to Self: Recruit Clayface next round.

Lorelei Circe (who matches the picture) who was a minor Batman villain, Lorelei an ancient Atlantean sorceror queen, Lorelei Ambrosia, a con woman from the Donner movies and Circe.

Also Circe has beef with Hyppolyta not Diana at this point in time.

Ambrosia doesn't fit though unless her background was changed (which would kind of be a shame because having people that can disguise intellect as magic is a nice to have for minor villians and avoids too much clutter in the magic department). Hmm Lorelei Circe also does not fit since her "power" was her voice which to be honest once again having a brainwashing skill and not having it come from magic, science or some other background puts her in a unique spot that would be a shame to lose.

Yeah. If you actually read the relationships between them:

Carol Ferris is nice to her, but even that makes Marie insecure and so undermines the working relationship.

Katherine is trying to be nice to Marie but is awkward about it.

Rebecca seems not to have an issue with bullying Marie but finds the whole "caught up in my lost acting career" thing kind of sad.

Mari and Marie have neutral relationships.

Carol just... isn't engaged or involved with her. No common interests.

Karl doesn't respect Marie because she doesn't have skills he respects.

Carl, like Karl, dismisses Marie because of a lack of skill more so than because of her disability.

Mercy is kind of a jerk to her.

Roxy is kind of a jerk to her, plus totally incompatible interests and inclinations.

Oswald treated Marie like a kid which enraged her, plus the rumors of Oswald being a pedophile are... well, put it this way, what is the one class of men who would hit on Marie? She's probably been squicked more than enough times that it'd poison the well of their interactions combined with the previous issue of them getting off on the wrong foot. Oswald is trying to be nice about it, but has anger management issues (note that one of his personal action options was "mail death threats").

Felicity is trying to be nice but Marie's jealousy gets massively in the way, so much so that I feel like there must have been a blown die roll in there somewhere.

Nygma actively DOES bully Marie because he likes to put people down (contrast to Ivo, who just thinks everyone around him is a moron and isn't doing it out of one-upsmanship, and who Dahl actually likes)

Well, "Lorelei Circe," if that was her real name, wasn't a magician- just a singing/sonic-themed metahuman. Aaand there's no guarantee that those four are an exhaustive list of who she could be, IMO.

So basically, we have no freaking clue. :(

Ambrosia doesn't fit though unless her background was changed (which would kind of be a shame because having people that can disguise intellect as magic is a nice to have for minor villians and avoids too much clutter in the magic department). Again, I don't think we should assume that @King crimson hasn't heavily reimagined such minor and obscure characters, given what he's shown us about the 'minor villain' stories.

I mean if you want to get more of a read on how I like to reimagine things you can always participate in the rewriting a minor villain contest. Notably if you've already participated you can do it again as you aren't at all limited to a single entry.

I mean in her character sheet it literally says that she has magic that enhance her bargaining skill but she stated she has not used it on Lex since it violates peoples minds so it could be Lorelei Circe. either way we need to do a background check on her right away.
Btw a theory I have is that Cerise Orielle could be an Hommunculi. my reasoning is that back when we crited on study magics it was one of the options so it is not too far out to assume other powerful mages can make them. it would also explain why we can not get any DNA samples from her since she is an magical construct

Rewriting a minor villain isn't really my thing; I've been trying to re-jumpstart on The Metropolitan Clan, among other things. Or at least, I'm not in the mood right now.

If we can, yeah.

On the other hand, notably, ANY plausible background for Cerise (including "she is exactly who she claims to be, a middling-talented sorceress from Gotham who's cut from the same cloth as Rebecca but with a different background") could reasonably include mind-manipulating magic to enhance bargaining skill. The real Circe would be able to do that, but being able to do that doesn't prove she's the real Circe. "Lorelei Circe" from Adam West's Batman would be able to alter minds, but (in her original incarnation) wasn't a magician and couldn't do everything we've seen Cerise do.

Though there's no reason "Lorelei Circe" couldn't study magic, I guess?

GIven that in canon our Rebecca is a homonculus, and she may well be (that may be her Important Secret that we could have chosen to learn when we studied magic)... Well, that's quite plausible.

@King crimson , have we been able to get biological samples from Rebecca?

On the other hand, there's another good explanation for why we can't get DNA samples from Cerise. Traditionally, there's a lot of nasty magic you can work against someone if you have samples of their hair, clothing, blood, and so on. It would be a reasonable precaution for magic-users to create spells that tidy up any 'loose ends' shed or dropped by their own body to prevent them from being used by enemy magicians. Also out of general tidiness.

Cerise may know and use such a spell.

So @King crimson here is another submission for the minor villain contest this time featuring Carnivore I took some inspiration from Vampire the Masquerade but I think put my own spin on it. I also had to change a lot of his motivations due to the removal any mention of earth born angels since I assume you plan to use Kara Zor-EL and not Linda Danvers (could be wrong). Love to hear people's thought on this

So in my redone version of Carnivore was kicked out of heaven for being the one who tempted Cain to murder his brother. God (AKA the presence) also bestowed a curse upon him Carnivore to fit his crimes. For the crime of causing the first murder Carnivore is cursed with an eternal and constant bloodlust, which combined with his angelic body created the first vampire.
Vowing vengeance on heaven itself Carnivore would spend the upcoming century's building a cult of his "children' so that one day he could lead an assault on heaven and usurp Gods throne. Unfortunately for him God bestowed a second curse upon him. Whenever he amassed too much power one of his children would be convinced by an outside force to betray him. This would lead a vampire civil war and to Carnivore losing his powerbase over and over. (one notable traitor would probably be Dracula) This cycle would repeat itself over and over no matter how Carnivore tried to stop it.
This leads to modern day were Carnivore has restarted his cult in L.A with his current alias being a director of a chain of blood banks. Things have been relatively stable for Carnivore until Lucifer Morningstar starts up his nightclub Lux. Paranoid that the king of lies has plans to convince one of his "children" to betray him Carnivore begins using proxies to try to send Lucifer Morningstar back to hell. this eventually lead to the entire west coast magical community being dragged into their war.

Holy cow, that idea is pretty cool and leads to the concept that bat man has never fought the actual joker just a bunch of his proxies twisted into believing that they're him.

Sorry it was meant to be a general call to action not something at you specifically. I apologise if I gave the wrong impression.
@King crimson , have we been able to get biological samples from Rebecca?
Yes you are able to gather biological samples although there are discrepancies that you don't have enough bio research to know about.

I'll get on it
@King crimson
So how is Snowflame doing now?
Last we heard he was trying to take over a cartel.
Snowflame successfully conquered the cartels and is watching Santa Prisca carefully to ensure his empire's stability

So I'm going to close the vote now. The winning vote was to reject the deal and leave amiably. Expect an update late today (11 pm PST is the goal) of tomorrow.

So I figured I'd respond to this a little more in full than what I wrote to give you my thoughts on this adaptation. It is simplistic but I do greatly enjoy it. The Vampire the Masquerade elements shone through and the odd combination of spite and paranoia present in this Carnivore make him an excellent character and very enjoyable to imagine scenarios for. I do think that you could easily tie in Andrew Bennet or Mary Seward into the Carnivore's tale and it would make for a fun dynamic.

Vampires in DC are weird (like Dracula is Polkolistani and there is a long clan of Markovian vampires and there is the cult of the Blood Red Moon and Crucifer got banished by Amazons all of which have nothing to do with each other. And that doesn't even include really weird outliers like Nostefara and Hemo-Goblin) so it is nice to see them get some love.

Adapting the Carnivore
So the Carnivore ended up being a bit of a weird adaptation. Unlike most rebellious angels he doesn't have a higher purpose. He isn't a demon and doesn't throw his lot in with Hell or Lucifer. on the other hand he is clearly barred from heaven. Instead the Carnivore ended up being immensely childish and spiteful. The whole thing of Vampirism is effectively him breaking the Presence's stuff, pissing on it, fixing it and then claiming it as his own to spite the Presence. The Carnivore is a being with way too much power throwing a cosmic temper tantrum. He doesn't have a greater goal beyond ruining things. Furthermore the origin of vampires is solidified. Vampires are collectively undead with a fraction of the Carnivore's power. I hope you enjoy this take on the Carnivore and find the unification of vampires to be a logical and easy to follow explanation.

Adapting the Carnivore
So the Carnivore is a lot of fun to adapt. Unlike most minor villains who don't get too high up in power scale. Like he isn't Mageddon levels of stupidly powerful (It took dozens of gods, angels, superheroes and every person on the planet being empowered to have superpowers, a prophecy and a sacrifice to make it go dormant) but considering that Carnivore managed to mess with the Presence it is clear that he isn't a small fish.

Furthermore the Carnivore is a chance to unify some things and have certain elements of the DC universe become cohesive. Vampire's are scattered throughout time and tend to have very little in common with one another. Some are bestial, some are monstrous, some are intelligent and others are raving loons. Some vampires can shapeshift and hypnotize while others merely have enhanced strength. The Carnivore being the definitive first vampire gives a chance to explain this a bit. Furthermore Carnivore being the first vampire makes the most sense. The other main contender for first vampire is Cain but considering the fact that there are already two different "first murderer Cain's" in the DC universe (the owner of the House of Mystery and Vandal Savage supposedly) neither of whom are vampires it is best to not add to the confusion.

So what is the Carnivore? Basically he is the first vampire and is borderline demonic in appearance. He was a member of Heaven but rejected it for a more earthly interest. He fought Supergirl and blackmailed the Presence (albeit only for a very short while). All of these things are states of existence and his personality was little better than ac slavering monster in his first appearance. As such creating a personality from scratch based on the things he has done and will be is the best route.

The Carnivore needs to be prideful and hedonistic. Unlike Lucifer who rebelled out of an ideal and a desire to be better than the Presence, the Carnivore rejected the Presence to indulge himself. If Lucifer is a Robespierre like figure, the Carnivore is closer to Marquis De Sade. The Carnivore also needs to have a reason to spread his curse. Making his creation of vampire's an act of petty spite and a way to get possession over others, it is a way for him to debase and defoul the Presence's creations rather than part of any grand scheme. Furthermore vampirism does not give the same abilities to everyone who he bestows it to. Rather he gifts part of his abilities onto his successors. So with that in mind here is how I would rewrite the Carnivore.

Many angels fell in Lucifer's rebellion against Heaven. Not the Carnivore. The Carnivore chose to leave. The Carnivore did not hold any high minded ideals or concepts. He did not desire to make anything. No the father of vampires chose to descend to the earth to engage in hedonism. He took a violent and ugly form and engaged in whatever hedonistic sin he desired. He ate, killed and mated with whatever he wanted to do so. Eventually he grew bored of his time on earth and wished to share it with the other angels. However he found that the Presence had bared him from entering heaven as he had made himself to impure and tainted to enter that realm without bringing about a second rebellion. The Carnivore was furious but the Presence went even further. The Carnivore's true name was forever stricken from history. The Carnivore attempted to make a deal with Hell but found that even they did not want him. Lucifer saw the Carnivore as a fool with no desire to actually improve things, furthermore the Carnivore was not interested in actually advancing the agenda of Hell and merely sought to use Lucifer as a way to spite the Presence. And thus the Carnivore was turned away from Hell. When he encountered mortals they all fled from his hideous form. Thus the Carnivore came up with an idea.

He would forcibly make other mortals like him. Through a ritual involving the draining of blood the Carnivore ended up creating a vampire, an undead shell of a mortal given some of the Carnivore's power. The vampire needed blood to keep itself functioning but the Carnivore had successfully twisted a mortal in his own image. With his power being such a major part of this vampire the Carnivore was able to keep them enthralled to him. He spread the curse of vampirism further in order to claim more things as his own. However eventually someone strong-willed enough was turned and rejected the Carnivore. This individual broke away from the Carnivore and started spreading their own influence and power rather than engaging in the Carnivore's hedonistic desires. However, since they only had a fraction of the Carnivore's power they could only pass along the traits they had inherited rather than all of the abilities of the father of vampires. As millennia passed numerous individuals broke free from the Carnivore's sphere. Eventually even the vampires had abandoned the Carnivore and turned against him.

But the Carnivore is old and powerful. Slowly he waits and recoups his power. He desires to take the most beautiful and precious and powerful things the Presence has created and take them for his own. He will not suffer the machination of any greater power interfering with his fun. The Carnivore will take what he wants and anything that gets in his way must face the true terrifying might of the father of vampires, the angel who left. Any mortal foolish enough to tempt fate might find themselves becoming a new possession for the Carnivore to feast on.

Yes you are able to gather biological samples although there are discrepancies that you don't have enough bio research to know about.
To be clear, do you mean "there are discrepancies that your science team doesn't understand" or do you mean "I am informing you OOC that there are discrepancies that your science team didn't even notice?"

I am informing you out of character that there are discrepancies that the science team didn't even notice so that when you do learn that information in character it doesn't contradict a statement I made about the biological samples. Basically I'm ensuring that I don't pull the rug out from under people.

Mhm. Gotcha. Gracious of you.

You iz generous QM. I would have said something like "Yes there are biological samples" and if asked about anomalies or discrepancies would have replied "not to your knowledge." ;P

Not that I'm complaining, it's just an interesting style to see in action.

Eh, I've got so much information that hiding things like that serves little purpose except to make my own statements less trustworthy. I am comfortable giving as much information as I am asked for so long as it doesn't reveal too much about the future or things I want to keep hidden.

If I want to hide information from the thread I've actually found it more useful to bury the information in a ton of other information. Informed decision making is the best decision making and I feel the quest is more fun when you have enough information to accurately make judgement calls.

It's less me being gracious more me experimenting with information flow as a QM and trying to prevent asspulls via never internally contradicting myself. Furthermore though I answered the initial question, the central mystery (what is going on with Cerise remains intact).

Interlude: Finding a Way Forward
So the winning vote was to reject the deal and leave amiably. This came out a bit later then I was originally planning it to but I am satisfied with the overall result. Lois was immensely tricky to write for me so I'd like some feedback on the characters of this part. I hope to get action phase 15 up tomorrow

Interlude: Finding a Way Forward
Roxanne Sutton
"Yeah sorry big man, I'm afraid I can't really take the deal" Roxy responded.

"I figured as much" Whale amicably stated "Now is the best time to part ways if you wanted to do so. While I am disappointed that our little arrangement won't be continuing I'm more than capable of going it on my own"

Whale reached out across the table and shook Roxy's hand.

"Thank you for the cordiality" Whale stated as he and his men left the bar "It is a pleasure to be dealing with an individual who can be reasoned with."

Roxy wasn't so sure about that. People kept telling her all the time that what she wanted was unreasonable but it wasn't too big of a deal. So far this had been an easy decision. Working with Whale was getting boring and wasn't doing much for them. As such best to cut ties and not be a dick about it. Roxy finished her meal and left. She felt good about how everything had ultimately played out.

The Boy in the Prison
Change had come to Pena Duro. The boy was subjected to more tests than ever before. Foreigners, white men with odd technology, had shown an interest in the facilities tests. The gauntlet of tests that stood before the boy were increased but he would conquer them still. What fascinated the boy was what they brought to Pena Duro. On top of their weapons they brought word of the outside world. For the first time in ages the boy heard of places outside of Santa Prisca. He heard legends of a city of terrors known as Gotham city, filled with madmen and murderers even worse than what existed in his home. And the king of Gotham City was the Batman, a monstrous creature who struck fear into the hearts of all men.

The Batman matched the creature who haunted his dreams every night since he was young enough to cling to Osito for fear of what lurked in the dark. The dreams were an omen. The boy had conquered Pena Duro. He would go on to conquer this Batman and claim his rightful place as the king of Gotham. Destiny had shaped the boy into what would become a great man. He would set forth and conquer.

Soon the boy would become a man in body as well as in spirit. He would be able to venture forth from the prison that was once his home. He would take his enemies strength and make it his own. Thus when the warden started collecting individuals for experimentation with Venom he volunteered. The boy would crush everything in his path. The fact that these white men came and had such wonderous technology would only help him. Santa Prisca was going to be invaded. In the chaos the boy would make his way out and reforge himself into the man that would fulfill his destiny and destroy the Batman.

Victor Fries
Victor was running out of time. In the chaos of the Holiday murders and the rise of the maniacs from Arkham, Nora had been hurt. Victor was forced to cryogenically preserve her far sooner than would have been necessary if it was only her McGregor's syndrome acting up. Victor hated Gotham for hurting his Nora. He hated the Batman for not stopping the criminals like he should have. Victor hated Boyle for his wheedling and wasting time. All of that was unimportant. Bruce Wayne had given him a chance to save Nora.

Victor did not like Bruce Wayne. The spoiled man had never had to suffer like Victor did and his lighthearted joking infuriated Victor. Still the man was useful and Victor was on a time limit. The man had bought out GothCorp and was interested in using it to increase medicinal treatments. Victor was able to use this new focus to try and save Nora. If he advanced medicine in the process so be it.

Still even with all of that he didn't have enough time. Victor had already had to discreetly siphon of funds in order to procure the materials for his tests and to ensure the cryogenic chamber Nora was held in was maintained. He imagined it would only get worse with time. That was why Victor had to go and find a cure soon or else he would be forever to be cold and alone without Nora.

Lois Lane
Lois was concerned. She had a real mystery on her hands and she didn't know quite where to go with it. The man the world was now focused on, Ignition, had first been seen attacking LexCorp tower in Metropolis. From some of her earlier investigation she knew that LexCorp had created exo-suits. She briefly considered the idea that Ignition might be a disgruntled ex-LexCorp employee but soon dismissed the idea. LexCorp's exosuits weren't that advanced and it was unlikely the Luthor would hide such a weapon for so long. No, he'd have already sold it to the military and her contacts there had made no mention of LexCorp selling exo-suits. She had to look at it from another angle.

Ignition had ties to Intergang and had worked with them several times. Intergang for some reason had developed a personal vendetta against Lex Luthor. She wasn't sure why but they had attempted to attack the man on multiple fronts. Intergang must have had a reason for attacking Lex but investigating on that end lead to a dead end as every leader of Intergang was either dead or in hiding.

The one notable thing Intergang managed to do in their attack on LexCorp without the aid of Ignition was to hospitalize a man named Professor Ivo. This same individual was never seen outside of the time he was hospitalized and no photographs existed of him. He had a work history, and a passport so he clearly existed. Ivo was also the individual who came up with numerous LexCorp advances but his official job title was unknown outside of LexCorp and his AMAZO project seemed like an effort to create a weapon far more dangerous than what Ignition had from what little she had gathered on it. The secrecy around the project was immense and LexCorp had tightened up its security recently. She had attempted to arrange a meeting with Ivo but was repeatedly blocked by the new LexCorp PR head who stated that it was official company policy not to talk to obviously biased and inflammatory individuals. Lois could admit that she probably had that coming to an extent. After the mess her previous interview with Lex Luthor had been she understood why the company might have blacklisted her. Well no matter. Lois was going to get to the bottom of this mystery one way or another.

We should release 'AMAZO' to the world, and make Lois look like the stooge that wants to keep people mortal.

Or better yet, make up something that isn't AMAZO and call it AMAZO, and show it off to the world. I would reccomend an attack dog robot. It's interesting enough to seem legit but doesn't give away the whole shebang.

We need to find Freeze and hire him. His cryo-tech is STUPIDLY advance. Imagine how much money we can make selling it to hold bodies of people that would die from a disease we can't cure yet or to save money on our space plan shit by freezing some of the crew and items during travel.

Hell, we can even save Amazo if his body makes a turn for the worse.

well unless we work with Wayne again and try to snipe Freeze with it like we did Karl i don't see that happening
