Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

He broke through to Silver but he still didn't break through to Yellow.

I assume he's Late Red and Early Silver.
Is that even possible?

I thought you had to be of similar spiritual and physical levels otherwise issues.

It'd make more sense for him to be Peak Red Soul and Early Silver.

E: My impression is that with our 6 Talent we are probably the third or fourth most Talented cultivator of our year, behind the Girl Trio of Doom maybe and definitely Ji Rong. Is this wrong?
As far as we know only Ji Rong is more talented than we are, though we are assuming the Girl Trio of Doom are roughly our equals (Talent 6, powerful bloodline).

Peak Red isn't a stage/level, it's just saying "you can now attempt to breakthrough".

I think the only limitation we've heard is that at some point, your body just can't handle the stresses of spiritual cultivation so your physical cultivation has to be somewhat near your spiritual.

I assumed something like you can't be Green/Gold. Your physical cultivation has to be at least one level below your spiritual or something like that.

Not really. Xiulan is Yellow but not Silver. She said she'd have to take multiple weeks to prepare for breakthrough to Silver.
That's in one direction, where we know that Spiritual powers and supports the Physical but I distinctly remember Zhou saying that people might basically pop if they went too high in physical while lagging in spiritual as their body cracks under the Qi Load.

Hmmm. I thought it was the reverse.

Ahh. Thank you!

It was Su who told us we need to cultivate Physical to handle Spiritual, not the reverse.

Yeah I just went back and re-read that chapter and I found what you are talking about.

Basically an ever increasingly powerful "chassis" of physical cultivation to be able to hand the "reactor" of your spiritual cultivation.

Did Meizhen break into Green yet or is she Late/Peak Yellow?

Still Yellow as of this week. Same for Cai. Ling Qi will notice when they break through. She's been saying she should get to green in the next couple weeks iirc.
Who do you think is gonna breakthrough first out of the Girl Trio of Doom? Meizhen seems very Spiritual focused, Sun is Physical and Cai seems balanced but maybe has more resources than the other two?

That's the impression I am getting. I am also very amused that it seems like the girls of the year are the most talented members of the class except for Ji Rong.

I don't think so. That is what is so brutal about breakthroughs only bad things happen if you fail. You lose progress that has to be worked up again. I don't think it gets any easier after a fail.
Increasing the DC means it gets harder is what I mean.

I do remember the loss of progress thing from a while back. So glad we maxed Argent Soul.

If it did, anybody could keep attempting to breakthrough over and over until they succeed.

On the other hand, the higher your talent, the less progress you lose. We're Talent 6 so we lose only 40 progress I think, which can be made up for in 1-2 weeks depending on pills and luck.

The amount we lose is based off of what we rolled. So if we rolled a 66 we would lose 1 point because our current target is 65. That will change with different arts and the level we are at but that is for the future.

Basically he's getting bogged down in social links and propping up Fan Yu?

Makes sense.
Do we have a good handle of where Han Fang is? Is he still Red Soul?

Pretty sure our Talent is only behind Ji Rong, the Girl Trio STARTED higher, but are probably either equal or a step behind in Talent, but make up the gap for having a high noble house's dedicated resources.

But I think his problem is less with the cultivation and more with avoiding a certain difficult choice by waffling.

Talent... Given the chargens apparently had High noble (least talent) < Scholar (no mention of talent as either good or bad)< soldier/artisan (above average talent as a advantage) < Street rat (us, high talent) < Prisoner, I don't think the range was 3<4<5<6<7, given we know 4 is considered 'low side of average', so probably no one in the sect has 3. So I suspect the talent stuff was more 5 (high noble)/5 with advantages (Scholar)/ 6 (Soldier/Artisan)/ 6 with unique trait (Ling Qi)/ 7 (Prisoner).

Even if we consider @yrsillar to have heavily reworked everything since then (and he certainly has), I'm just not seeing one of the chargen option to have had less than 5 considering it's still considered average in the sect and having a chargen choice that's significantly on the lower side of average for a sect member, when some of our competitors also have "high resources", just means we can't compete. Hell, even scholar having only 5 but no cultivation advantage would be a hard one.

OTOH, this means our 'unique trait' is what's supposed to separate us from Soldier/Artisan chargen when the both of those had much better starting skill, and that "unique trait" probably isn't going to be significantly useful for a while... but that makes sense, in a sort of "They have a stronger start they must capitalise one but we have some significant bonus much, much, much later down the road".

I probably shouldn't talk about this again, but I just can't imagine the quest being doable with Talent 3 and very high resources, or Talent 4 and Gu Xiulan-tier of resource.

Doesn't that increase the DC on the next attempt?
Nope. The DC stays the same for failing. You roll under a DC and pass...over it you lose the amount over as progress. You need to pass the DC an amount of times equal to the realm you're trying to reach. Each time you pass the DC it removes a success you need and even if you fail the next one you don't need to repass the first.

What's the thread's running theory on our unique talent? Besides Diplo+ with Spirits?
