[X] Plan A Cultivator is a Social Animal

Huh, this website is doing weird things right now, the box I'm typing this into is shrinking even as I type, wtf. If this is some weirdly realistic dream, well, I guess that means I've become so invested in this quest I've started dreaming it.

I was more arguing from "real life", to be honest - but good point there.

On range... I'd argue that the extra range of bows is very unlikely to be used by Ling Qi. For one thing, if an opponent isn't within her mist, a lot of her other capabilities are inapplicable or weakened - so she's going to want to be closing to throwing knife range (that's 25 meters for her) *anyway*. And with Sable Crescent Step, she's quite capable of doing so. Really, most combat will either occur within the range of her knives or she'll be both motivated and capable to closing to under that range. Plus, the knives can be used in melee - a bow... cannot (and, again, switching between bow and flute is a lot harder).

EDIT: Plus, the bow is a primary weapon, often used early - because enemies will almost certainly close the distance against a bow themselves. Early in a fight, Ling Qi is going to want to set up her mist. If she delays doing so to shoot arrows, then she's not going to have a lot of time to do so when the enemy closes in. If she puts up the mist first, then enemies are probably well within knife throwing range anyway.

Really, a bow is only useful when:
* Ling Qi is ambushing from range.
* She's in an archery duel... probably with someone who specializes in the bow, while Ling Qi herself only dabbles. In which case, why on earth isn't she closing the distance and clouding their vision with mist?
Oh, I agree. A bow is a situational weapon for our current build, but I think we can spare the time to train a couple dots with one. Han Jian has a bow for much the same reason. Sometimes you're just not in the position to hit the enemy with anything else. We've got the advantage of a pre-disposition to wind arts which, if martially aligned, could assist with bow and throwing knives equally.

The whole reason my plan exist was him dropping the subvotes. We've picked up a decent number of votes, and it hasn't come back.

Arrgh.

Honestly, I think my ideal plan right now, would be something like

[] Plan As Swift as a Social Animal
-[] Resources used: Argent Elixir, Argent Accumulation pill, 3 red spirit stones, Bear Marrow Elixir, Gushing Spring pill
-[] Help Suyin train and cultivate at the vent
--[] Argent Soul
---[] Ask Su Ling and Li Suyin prior, and if they agree discuss trading access to a high quality Spirit Stone and Argent Soul vent in exchange for resources/talismans/training and being cordial to those who found it. Make it clear we don't need a cut.
-[] Try to spend some time with Han Jian, couch it as wanting to ask him about spirit binding
--[] If Su Ling and Li Suyin okayed it, tell him they found a vent, and are up for making a deal to share it's use. If he's interested, arrange the meeting.
-[] Train with Han Jian and his group
--[] If the above went well, bring Su Ling and Li Suyin.
--[] Cultivate Crescent Sable Step
-[] Discuss with Meizhen what you can help her with
-[] Look into sending some money to mother
-[] Cultivate on your own
--[] FVM

I'd actually like to inspect those tokens instead of sending money to mother, but I dunno how many other people feel the same, so I'd probably go with a plan like above if there was any support for it.

Could you maybe put the subvote back in, under group training instead of the personal Han Jian SL
The problem with this is that my plan is extremely polarized. I dropped it for some good reasons, and

there is that plan. I would feel extremely uncomfortable with adding it back in when I removed it for some very good reasons, and I have gotten votes for those reasons, as well as lost votes.

When I dropped it, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place, because I didn't want to die on the hill of joining the two groups. As such I'm spending the social action with Han Jian, in order to see if there is a workable solution to not have him be jealous of us. I don't want to bring it up in the group vote because of very valid concerns that Han Jian would see it as undermining his authority as well as springing it upon the group without any real way to enforce any conditions of sale.

While there are valid reasons to have the sub vote, those ideas are primarily being covered by @TheLastOne 's plan, and I would feel remiss for changing my vote again. Also, if I change my vote again, I'm afraid there will be another 10 pages of panic and outcry against either joining the groups and counterarguments for allowing the groups to join. And frankly, after my plan was in the middle of that whole fiasco and my plan bore the brunt of a lot of scorn, I'm sick of it.

As such, while I would personally be ok with changing the plan back to what it was, I feel doing so at this juncture would be doing a disservice to the people who joined my plan specifically because it didn't have that action.

Life is a dream, dreams are random unfiltered firings of the brain. The unfiltered firings of the brain ends in porn.

Hence, this post is porn.

My logic is flawless.

BTW guys, have you considered getting taught by one of the inner Disciples?

30 points gives us tutoring for a week. It might be useful to save up for this once a month. Not only will it give us a boost but it would let us social some of the inner disciples.

I'd like to get this for our next sable light week. It would be a pretty useful bonus.

Just to give you context here... 30 points is 150 red stones, or 15 yellow stones.

They would need to be pretty damn awesome to be worth that.

Well, it would be personal attention that would be taken at our own pace. If our pace is good enough, it might be a pretty big boon. The elders taught in a strict manner that didn't deviate from what we were capable of because they had a lot of other people to teach. So it is possible that they would be worth it.

Ling Qi actually needs to get said points. And, to be honest, I'm not sure if that's worth more than, say, second floor archive access, 60% of third floor archive access or three weeks of Formations lessons (or Medicine lessons).

"Access to an art from the third floor" is worth a lot, I would wager.

Rated insightful because either I am lit right now, or my laptop is.

I suspect disciples pool their points to purchase instruction. 30 points is huge, but 3 per disciple in a group of 10 is much more manageable.

It might be useful to just check once with the 15 point action, but the main importance to use it with the sable light pill is to pile on the bonuses.

Yeah, a tutor to help us open Mederians when we've opened about as many as is practice, while taking the Sable Pill... that might be worth it? But that's pretty situational.

Btw do we have to do the sect missions alone? If points don't get divided, we might be able to combine social with the missions.

*sigh* Understood. Since I doubt that As Swift as a Social Animal will pick up any support, I'll stick with your vote. Meizhen is more important to me than whether or not we join our groups, though I would really, really like that to happen.

One of the things Meizhen needs, and is starting to act on, is building allies. Social Animal moves to have Xuilan start meeting Meizhen, which would very much benefit her.

Waaaaaaaait... Where's mom on Cultivator Social Animal?

It might be also possible to combine different missions with the social. A possible combo is to go difficult plant harvesting with Su Ling where Su Ling takes the intermediate beast hunting mission. Thus we both benefit, get points, and social is increased a bit.

Yeah, I've been arguing for Li Suyin taking the difficult herb gathering mission while Ling Qi and Su Ling gets the medium hut mission around her. This seems optimal in the short term. I almost wanted to vote for this this turn, but I was thinking that people wanted a lot of social for this week so I put two purely social in my vote, thinking that having a huge amount of social would help :(

She isn't? The point of Social Animal is to take care of our most pressing social issues before they blow up. We meet with Xuilan, Suyin, and Han Jian, all to take care of them and get them in position for us to not have to worry about them and stop wasting actions treading water. It's setup for going into full cultivator mode by taking care of all our basic social responsibilities. It doesn't worry about anything that isn't immediately necessary.

Maybe we can just float the idea to Su this turn?

Why? It's the kind of thing we can do the turn we decide to do it. It doesn't have anything bad about it, it's like asking Han Jian to train with him.

Asking her about it just means trying to win future weeks votes, and that's super meta.

It might benefit her, but it's not the specific thing that she wanted our help for once we got to Yellow/Silver. That's the thing we promised we'd help her with, we promised we'd help her as soon as we reached Yellow/Silver. Now we're both, we have no excuse not to bring it up and fulfill our promise for all the friendship and support she's given us.
