Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

What are the Bai's clan colors anyway? Presumably white is one (and is possibly associated with the Bai's sublime ancestor- the White Serpent), but what are the rest?

Well, personally I'm assuming it goes Red -> Yellow -> Green -> Cyan -> Indigo -> Violet -> Prism -> White.

That being said, prismatic hair does sound a bit weird :V

Edit:
when we were talking about this on discord, I asked this:

ErebealLast Wednesday at 9:42 AM
so Meizhen has cousins with red and green and blue hair?

YrsillarLast Wednesday at 9:43 AM
well 'cousins'

Which is kinda ambiguous, but does it least suggest those colours are right...

Does that mean that there is a Bai clan offshoot that all of its snake clan members are rainbow colored like that Aboriginal deity? Because that kinda owns.

Actually, the whole conversation about Bai colours started because we were asking why the Bai weren't all bright and colourful to scare people off like snakes often are.

Well, people have often tried to claim that Suzhen is progressive - but now we have evidence! She gives opportunities to talented lowborn snakes!
The first Discord dump of this past week mentions which White Serpent's daughters' descendants are 'commoners'—the 2nd and 7th daughters failed to ascend, so their kids also must suck. The only counting systems that put green as either 2nd or 7th would have the red daughter be the 0th daughter, whatever that means, or the 9th of 8. So Cui's not in the bottom rung, at a minimum.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we know nothing about the positions of the different colour coded Bai ? Or even which one exists ? Just that the White Bai seems to be the leaders. Saying that the 8 daughters correspond to the 8 realms in cultivation is purely theoretical: for all we know the Greens snake could be the second most powerful kind of Bai or the very lowest in term of influence and prestige, and hell I personally bet on the Black Sneks who are all copy cats of Orochimaru.

tldr: As far as I saw the "Red -> Yellow -> Green -> Cyan -> Indigo -> Violet -> Prism -> White" separation of power (and I believe that the Prismatic/Violet/Indigo snakes flat out don't exist) for the Snake clan has no bearing.

Also note the colors are a relatively new term , and the bai had their own terms for cultivation level so the red sneks blue sneks argument is fairly silly

Yep. The color tiers were named after the color of the Spirit Stones used in each, which weren't really a thing until the formation of the Empire and the Spirit Stone mines allowed for consistent, widespread cultivation on the same standard system for people without spirit blood to eat cores raw(and organized pill production would have showed up in the Bronze Age level of specialization, which the Bais started).

The Bais as a spiritblooded ancient clan likely could do without spirit stones entirely if need be, just working with water, eating cores and being sneky

Ah dammit. Sorry guys, I made a mistake in the WoG dump. Sorry for the misinformation.

It's not the second and seventh branches, it's the FIFTH and seventh branches that are the commoner branches. Those are the branches that had the failed children I think.

@yrsillar I read part of the first chapter on Royal Road with your edits and somehow the first few paragraphs didn't hook me which is a problem because the story is extremely good once you get into it. Somehow I don't think the tone is active enough and in the spoiler is how it could be written with a few changes. Feel free to do what you wish with it including but not limited to copy paste, adopting a few changes, or ignoring it completely. I sincerely hope that what I did isn't considered rude and you won't take offense, this is my attempt at editing a story since highschool and I would appreciate some feedback.
The carriage went impossibly fast, Ling Qi thought staring out the tiny window at a landscape consisting of little more than green and brown blurs. She should be excited, even awed; she been witnessing the power of Immortals after all, not something a girl like her could ever expect to see.
Instead, she simply felt numb. Absently, Ling Qi brushed a strand of unruly black hair out of her eyes it had grown too long again, hanging down below her ears. The carriage is taking her to the Wall, the impassable mountains that formed the southern border of the Emerald Seas province. The carriage is bound for the Argent Sect that resided there, and all because a terrifying man in a porcelain mask had said that she had the talent to become an Immortal.
It's why she heard the occasional voice no one else could hear, why she sensed strange presences when she ventured out to the outskirts of the city where the wards against the spirit beasts were porous and weak. She had always assumed she been born slightly crazy really.
Boyish, inelegant, crazy Ling Qi, who ran away rather become a doll for mother.
She couldn't say she regretted leaving. It wasn't as if Mother had tried very hard to find her in the four years since she had run off. Ling Qi blew the stubborn strand of hair out of her eyes again and turned her thoughts away from the past. It was pointless now; she would never grow up to be like her Mother, and so, she left. She was free, even if it meant facing hunger and the cold. Even if she'd been hurt or frightened on occasion. Ling Qi may be ugly, be poor, but she been herself and did as she wanted, which to her was all that mattered. It had to be.
Which was why this grated on her.
She should have been ecstatic, the only commoner from her city that had the talent.. Would any other denizen of Tonghou be able to raise their heads in front of her by the time she was done training? Would even Mother be able to criticize her? No, of course not.
She still wasn't happy though because again, she was without choice. She had no money, no resources. Even if she'd went back to Mother, Mother wouldn't have been able to pay the fees described by the recruiter, and if she had refused to go to the sect, her talent would be removed. She hated the idea something of hers being taken away even more.
So once Ling Qi is done training, she would owe the Empire eight years of military service instead. Not long at all in the life of an Immortal, she had been assured. Really she couldn't say that the idea of facing off against the wind riding mountain barbarians like a figure out of a story didn't excite her.
She just hated not having a choice.

Han Jian invested. He just couldn't make everyone happy, period
Han Jian's was strong in compassion, but weak in courage. He couldn't fix what was wrong with his world, so he kept trying to sort of patch the symptoms without ever being willing to put in the effort and take the risks necessary to make it right. Some of it fell apart around him, some of it he salvaged, and when he does make it to the Inner Sect next year (near-guaranteed), he'll be much stronger for having had to confront those things.

The Han Jian route wasn't ever going to work out. Once we got to the point where he was no longer way too far above us, he was way too far below us. He does not have what it takes to be the man that we will need.

For better or worse, he's learned to make his own decisions. And while he hasn't fully committed one way or another, he has at least learned to take action, even if that action won't always work out. He's a friend, but unfortunately, circumstance means he can't really be much more than that, at least for now. Future's unknown.
