Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

I'm eager to see how the talk with mom will go when she arrives.

I don't think we've meaningfully conversed with a mortal in a while since we arrived on the mountain and we noted after the second breakthrough that mortals seem clumsy and predictable.

So while Mom is trying to digest the growth, appearance change and ambient aura, Ling Qi will be trying to be patient as her mothers thoughts and actions seem incredibly telegraphed.

Seems like a fun scene.

I hope we talk to her through a veil or around a corner or something to break it to her slowly.

Actually @yrsillar if you are going to wite the whole chapter in one go, can you answer those two questions that @Erebeal brought up?

1) Does cultvating in a heavily wood enhanced area is going to unbalance Zhengui?
2) If it does can Ling Qi ask Xiulan for a tip about a fire site that will counterbalance him?

His wood path will probably develop somewhat faster, but unless it goes on without any effort toward his fire path in the long term it will be no worse than you prioritizing a certain art for awhile. Zhen might get a little sulky tho.

Sure, that would be something she could ask about.

I really want to link that question to a White Room action next Week.

"Yeah, this is a great place to push past your soft meridian cap and do Breakthrough recovery. Speaking of great places, you know of any 9 dice Fire locations? No pressure tho."

Actually, real talk

Sharing the White Room with Xiulan might just provoke her pride enough to feel like sharing such information~

It's a little early, but I would like plan makers to consider giving Su Ling a turn in the white room next week. She did just mention that she was having trouble balancing everything and that her base cultivation was stalling, so I think it would be a nice gesture. Just a thought if the minors/major crunch allow it!

Be nice doods. Please.

Anyway, update will be out either tomorrow or friday. Tentatively going for completing the rest of the week in one go, got kinda delayed by some rl issues over the last couple days.
If you're going to post the rest of the quest week in a go, could you update the job/shop board first ?
So we don't start making plans with faulty or missing info on those.

I have this amusing image of Ling Qingge staring at Ling Qi in seeming awe for a second.
-Before promptly producing a comb and trying to smooth down her daughters hair.

"Honestly Qi aren't you a bit too old to be playing around with glitter?"
"Mommm your causing me to lose face!"

Every time I think of Ling Qingge I get sad because I remember the scene where she got raped trying to keep the nobles interest on her and not super underage ling qi :(

And then I remember she lived fairly badly these last few years and was gaunt and sickly , and then the fact she won't be alive very long (at least with ling qis new lifespan ) and I get sadder.

Hopefully she hasnt become a completely awful person due to all the hardships she's endured.

Well, the letters we have gotten from her seem to indicate that she hasn't become terrible, and is actually fairly harsh on herself for perceived failures on her part. I think her self-esteem and efficacy took a huge hit when we ran away as well as her general health and well-being, but I don't think she has become a bitter, angry, or resentful person. Or, in contrast, her saying that she doesn't need more gifts from us seems to indicate that she hasn't become a greedy, selfish person either.

I personally think that before we contacted her she was resigned and depressed, but working through it by figuring out a way to take care of her new child, and then we contact her with money that is of extreme help and she has a little hope regained again that her life can exist comfortably. Then the false debtors come, and in the process of communicating that debacle to us, we solve the problem for her. So she is grateful for that but also confused about the amount of power we can wield.

Her responses have been very cagey and lack details about herself, but that could simply be habit and wariness of people who could read the letters, especially if her daughter might be negligently sharing the contents to other people. I mean, it gets better the longer we write to her, but that could be a real concern of hers, for whatever reason.

So, I think that she will be coming into this meeting with a couple of prominent emotions: happiness at seeing her daughter, caution regarding dealing with immortals and changed people, and realistic optimism that her life could be on the upswing.

Mist and Stars
Mist and Stars

Ling Qingge adjusted her sling, carefully maneuvering her daughter as she descended from the steps of the carriage. She had imagined in the silly dreams of children long gone that some young noble would sweep her up and take her from the city. She knew better now. And yet, a noble had come and pulled her and her daughter from their home. Not that it was much of one before the coins begun flowing in, along with the letters. It was hard to make a living after they'd thrown her out, but they managed. Now, here she was, half a world away and in an entirely different world. Mercenaries had escorted their carriage out of her hometown, but somewhere along the way they'd been replaced. Hard faced soldiers bearing noble colors had seen her to these steps.

"Your stop Ma'am." The driver was polite and respectful. The unease that had long since coiled around her heart only grew every time they treated her with deference. She wasn't worthy. She'd done nothing to deserve it. A haunting melody spilled from the structure before her. It wasn't so unfamiliar, like so many inns across the Empire, if very much on the nicer side. One of her well off patrons had once take her to such a place. The sheets were so very soft, like clouds. Even so, the inn looked foreboding. The flute rang in and out of hearing, an ethereal ring to it that saw her imagining dancing devils among the mists that shrouded the entrance, even mid-morning. Steeling her heart, she climbed the steps. It was not her place to question.

The mists swirled around them as they entered, yet they remained thin enough to make out the room. An old crone stood behind a counter, knitting. Qingge approached with caution and bowed low. "Honored Elder, I am Ling Qingge and I was told to come here." She waited, bent at the waist. She could feel the other's regard, like a brick upon her back and shuddered under the strain. "Huh. Disappointing." Qingge braved a quick look at the Elder and saw her staring at the ceiling. The flute drifted by, the haunting melody taking on ominous tones as shadow monsters appeared in the mists behind the Elder. Qingge breath stole from her chest. Were those monsters everywhere in this mist!?

She boggled as the crone casually backhanded one of the shadow things into oblivion. "Don't get uppity with me young Lady." The Immortal before her returned their eyes to her and now she could well see the inner fire in them. She quickly looked down and contemplated kowtowing. However, before she could decide the Immortal spoke again: "Go on up then. Your room's third on the left." After a deep bow, Qingge fled. The stories of what happened to mortals who were caught in Immortal feuds were varied and many. She wanted nothing to do with any of them. Quickly but carefully she ascended the stairs and all but ducked into the room assigned to her.

As the sliding door clicked shut behind her, she could finally acknowledge the racing of her heart. Soldiers to escort her, an inn seeped in mist and shadow, and an immortal innkeeper, just what was she caught in? At least the mist was thin here, clinging only to the floor in a thin carpet. What few belongings she'd take were already here, and so much more. A large, luxurious bed commanded the middle of the room, there was table with an actual mirror, and drawers to the side, a pot with flowers carefully arranged upon it. The closet on the other side of the room was huge and left open, her few things carefully folded and hung within. There was even carved wooden crib for the little one.

She un-slung her burden, and lay her daughter to rest. It took a while for her to calm in such a new place, and the ethereal music that never stopped made it all the harder. With her daughter safe, for now, she was left adrift. What was she to do? Was she a prisoner? Could she merely go for a walk? Was there someone who could watch her? She'd not seen her other daughter in years and knew little of what she'd become. A few letters do not make up for years apart. Was she supposed to go to her? Would she come here? Should she write her, or was one of her guards even now bringing the news?

As she stewed in her thoughts, the flute kept playing and something in the otherworldly tones piked and prodded at her. She found herself in the hallway not remembering how she got there, facing a door further down the hall. It was left just the slightest bit open, and mist billowed out of the crack, even as the melody grew stronger. Her feet moved of their own volition, the sliding door's light sequel deafening to her, as she looked into the room.

It was arranged for a tea ceremony. Rich fabrics hung from walls, and soft cushions were arranged around the table. Yet none of that held her attention. In the middle of the room sat a Noble Immortal, for what else had such harsh beauty? She was shrouded in mist and yet Qingge could clearly make out just how incredibly fine her noble vestments were. She was clad in a many layered gown of water smooth black silk with white highlights and a dark blue mantle split down the center like a pair of wings and embroidered with white lotus petals.
A gleaming black flute was held before her, playing, silver glinting of it as the Noble Lady wove her magic. And yet, even the mist flowing out of the instrument wasn't what transfixed Ling Qingge. It was the hair. Black, like the darkest moonless night, it floated, weightless, framing her face, and yet, it was filled with twinkling stars.
Qingge was in awe. How could such a thing exists upon this earth? Perhaps it was surprise, or the very awe, but she was left breathless, careless. She stumbled, feet scuffing on the polished pine floor. The immortal opened her eyes. With the inevitability and the weight of a glacier blue eyes found her, and the cold stunned her. For in the moment her eyes snapped open a wave of frost surged from the seated demi-god, coating the room in frost and rime. Those eyes were not merely blue, they were ice from the highest mountains and she could feel her bones freezing under that regard. Terror flooded her veins and Qingge collapsed to her knees, kowtowing for her life. Who would care for her daughter if the Immortal struck her down for intruding so?

She lost track of the words spilling from her, even as she prayed for mercy. Her plea was answered. "Please stop. What's wrong?... Mother?"

AN: My thanks for reading, and respect to @Erebeal for the images. I didn't draw them, I merely used them.

Hahaha. Nice! Hope Ling Mom isnt too traumatized and lose more of her short lifespan left.

Also, in regards to the best place for Lin Qi cultivation wise, what i think of her home being is a Oalace or mansion neae the peak of a snowy mountain. It has Mountain, Wind, Water (snow), and closer to the moon.

Wait, when did that happen? I missed that! Or forgot it.

During one of ling qis flashbacks where she remembers why she ran away she realized that she may have misunderstood the situation or was wrong about her mother's intentions .

During it we see her mom trying to convince a disgusting noble that ling qi wasn't "for sale" in the brothel or at least wasnt worth his attention and tried her best to convince him to spend "time with her instead" ling qi was like 9-10 , the next day ling qi sees bruises and marks over her mom includinf choke marks i think? and notices her being very irritable ( I don't remember all the details tho ) but yeah it doesn't get really into details but you can sort of put two and two together, despite her being a worker In a brothel you can only imagine that a noble who wanted to sleep with a child wouldn't be very merciful since what he wanted was denied from him and the fact he was a fucking monster in the first place for wanting a 9 year old

We need to find that noble and murder his ass by the way.

Su Ling looked up at the sky deliberatively for a few seconds before looking back. "I can get that," she said quietly. "Not quite like you do, but fuck, nobody is the same when it comes to that kind of thing." The vulgarity seemed a little forced in that line.

"Guess so," Ling Qi mused. She supposed it all came back to Mother, and the ugly argument that had lead to her fleeing to the streets. Or the conversation she had witnessed which had triggered it. It seemed foolish of her looking back. Those memories took on a different cast when looked at with the eyes of an adult.

She had a few reasons to pay Tonghou city a visit, it seemed.

"That's a scary look," Su Ling said, drawing her from her thoughts. "Got someone you're gonna kill?"

"Maybe," Ling Qi replied slowly. "How about you?"

"Sure," Su Ling replied. Meeting her eyes dead on. "Got a list, ending with that murderous furry bitch."

"Guess that's something we have in common," Ling Qi replied lightly. "Let me know if you need a hand."
Don't worry, Ling Qi is already on it.

Aaaaaaand that's another quest caught up to! Good timing on my part too it seems!

Missed the deadline for this last vote, but at least the team I'm on in spirit won! Looking forward to voting with y'all in the future.

I've been wondering, aren't quests eligible for getting on top web fiction lists? This story is easily good enough to contend with the best on the web in my opinion. Helping it get more attention would be great.

You think a little small I feel.

We need a flying Doom Fort :V

That can carry a Cyan Zhengui :D

So I just realised there might be a problem, how is Ling Qi supposed to introduce her family to her bestie and sister in all but blood without Meizhen's passive fear aura which just got a boost along with her new terror spirit causing her mother and little sister to freak out?
