Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

I wonder about that.
We do have Cultivators that are potters and craftsman; why not courtesans?

Wouldn't there logically be Cultivators that seek 'pleasurable company' that isn't as fragile and clumsy like a mortal would be in such circumstances?

While there are probably cultivator courtesan, if only for the fact that cultivators are better at everything than mortals, yellow cultivators to mid green would be about as fragile.

Also it's possible that as you get more powerfull, you are less interested in matter of flesh(as you become less human), so only lower level cultivators are actually making use of courtesans.

On the other hand, the empress fuck her guards, and doesn't seem to have courtesans to do that job.

There are absolutely going to be cultivator courtesans. Keep in mind that cultivators grow more beautiful as they go up in rank, at least for the first rank or two; see Ling Qi's breakthroughs for reference. Furthermore, mortals themselves appear graceless and awkward:
It didn't stop her from getting directions to the Ministry building though. Her walk through the tidy streets was enlightening in some ways though. It was… strange to walk among mortals again. The projections in the test had not been real people, and she had barely begun to cultivate at that point besides. Had… had everyone she knew really been so slow and graceless. It wasn't as if they were moving in slow motion precisely, but that to her perception their every motion was obvious and telegraphed. That man would stumble on his way through the door, that woman would shift the basket in her hands to adjust for the weight in three more steps.
And of course, there is the fact that cultivators master even mundane skills better than mortals, and there are a number of skills that one might want to see in a courtesan.

Of course, this is unlikely to be an occupation-of-last-resort like being a mortal prostitute might be; almost all cultivators have the ability to at least earn a living doing other mortal work, given that they are stronger, quicker, and far better at learning than most mortals. That, I think, was the point @Asael was making.

*shrugs*

Reds aren't much more durable than mortals, frankly. (a newly awakened red get's all of two auto successes against mortals. A newly awakened green gets twenty one, if I understand the rules correctly.)

The simple fact of the matter is, the way the letters are composed betrays an actual ignorance about cultivators. It's not just her confusion when it comes to zhengui. (something every cultivator would know.)

Do you recall when Qi first wrote to her regarding her nobles friends?. She warned Ling Qi about associating with nobles because of how easily they are offended.

Pretty sure she was talking from personal experience, but it also assumes that Ling Qi will not be a noble. (which she will be, soon.)

It's a bunch of little things, really.Qi mom is well educated, which suggest a decently well off background, but isn't well informed into common things that every cultivator deals with.

It's why I believe she was a mortal servant to nobility. If she was raised for it, she'd have to have at least some understanding of the ways of nobility if only to avoid offense.

And we have a upset ! Gan is now losing out compared to the Ma sisters. What is this, is beef not good enough now ??
For me, the Ma twins are entertaining while Gan is kind of a boring knockoff of a one-note character. He also doesn't have great chemistry with Ling Qi. Their one extended conversation was very meh. Ling Qi works best when she's kind of wacky and oblivious and playing off a straight man; tossing her into a scene with another wacky person doesn't work as well, IMO.

Materially, it's unlikely that the loot will amount to more than pocket change. I'd rather have the 10% chance that assiduously polishing our social link with Su Ling will result in an introduction to a drug dealer.

Ling Qi does mostly hang out with girls. The option to hang out with Xuan Shi was available for awhile but is now gone. If posters had picked that, Ling Qi would probably have the option of working on formations with him instead of with Suyin now. Isn't Xuan Shi the ultimate straight man? People are okay with Gan Guangli but don't seem to want to be friends with him. There's no question of becoming friends with someone like Fu Xiang. It's purely transactional. Remember how early on there were options to get to know the silent Han Fang better? No one ever picked that and eventually it faded away. The thread did originally pick Han Jian as someone to hang out with but once Gu Xiulan became a friend in her own right, Ling Qi only ever interacts with Han Jian as a part of the Golden Fields group.

Is this because the QM is better at writing interesting girl characters than boy characters or because the posters here really like adding new girl characters to the "harem" of friends? I think it may actually be that yrsillar can't seem to come up with male characters that most posters find appealing. The Ma sisters have one speaking scene and everyone is all, "Oh, look how adorable they are. Gotta add them to our pokemon collection."

Poor Meizhen is so confused. Ling Qi says she likes boys but she only hangs out with girls.

I actually found the conversation refreshing, it's nice to see Ling Qi interact with someone who is on the same level as her. It was two peers who are roughly equal in level and were serving under the same leader having a discussion about important, but not deeply personal, matters. Ling Qi doesn't really have that relationship with anyone else other than Xuan Shi, who we don't talk to enough as it is, but action economy is what it is. Seriously, it's nice seeing her converse with friends who don't feel indebted to her or confused by her in some fashion.

Or we are playing a teenage girl living in sex-segregated dormitories, so we naturally have more female friends.

We did also spend some time with Xuan Shi and people liked him.

I wanted to hang out with him more, but formations is a side project. And doesn't have the same appeal as music stuff.

You know, although I voted for Emerald Sea because I think attracting Liling's attention is a terrible idea and I prefer to hang out with the Ma twins, I can't help but sort of morbidly root for Emerald Sea + Gan for the sheer trainwreck factor. I think it's a terrible idea, and yet I'm kind of interested in seeing Ling Qi and Guangli gloriously destroy Liling's raiders.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Welcome to khorne worship. We got skulls and blood. :V

I'm pretty sure it'd just be a few lines unless something happens that'll throw off our whole schedule, so it's not that narratively appealing and even risky. Reward generally comes with risk, but things being so close to our breakthrough, I'm inclined for more conservative approaches.

If it's just normal raider goons, it's not much to look forward to. We'll look cool, I suppose.

I mean, it's not like we're a stranger or a no name here.

Short of stealing her diary and reading it for all the sect to hear, I don't really know what we could do to get Liling more angry with us than she already is.

Truthfully, If it wasn't for the argent bit, I'd have betrayed for Gan ages ago.

Don't misunderstand, I like our minions quite a bit, But I wouldn't mind giving them a week to digest what they have learned.

Not really a fair comparison in my opinion as the thread didn't need to be offered concrete rewards in the form of items / skills / arts to justify spending minor actions on Suyin, Su Ling, Xiulan etc. It's all about the role-playing fluff and grinding relationship points. The point is that people opt for the RP fluff that involves girls but not the ones that involve boys.

Suyin's friendship literally began with her offering to pay us for help. Xiulan's began because we were thinking she was going to attack us if we didn't go and meet her.

Su Ling took much longer because there was no material reasons to go see her... until we did the disappearance mission, which she fit very well.

Basically, I'd rather not move up her priority list.

Right now, we are very definitely on her List. She wants to fuck us up bad. However, she does have action economy to deal with too, and she's gotta do other stuff. Like actually combat Cai instead of obsessing over one of Cai's minions.

However, if that one of Cai's minions does not keep her head down, and even after Liling's warning and attempted ganking, continues to be a contrary little shit fucking up her plans, then suddenly, that minion moves up the priority list, and Liling can now justify taking a few personal actions to hospitalize the little sneak instead of having to concentrate on Cai.

I quite like not being stabbed. And I'm perfectly happy to let Cai be our shield against Liling. Let them fuck each other up while we quietly cultivate, mmkay?

We know ooc that her father died to a jungle gribbly and that hit her pretty hard.

We know IC that she hate when we say that her grandfather is a traitor to the empire.

So to make her stark raving mad, we can say something along those lines : "how does it feel to be the daughter of someone so terrible at fighting that he died to minions of what your grandfather sold his soul too".

Then we die to an enraged bloodknight and meizhen murder the shit out of Sun, but hey. For a few minutes she would be even madder than she is right now. :V

I wasn't referring to what motivates other people to vote for who to spend actions with; That was my reason.

I'd probably prefer to hang out with Lan Lan over Gan( though I'm all for picking low-ish risk fights), but I think I'll always vote against getting closer with the the Meh sisters. Sometimes there may be some actual minor benefits to it, but it's a slippery slope that needs to be opposed at every step.

That does remind me of a question I wanted to ask Yrsillar, as it weirds me out that people consider the wolves fight not a no-risk one (though very low risks of having to retreat).

@yrsillar while we don't need the full dice logs for the fights where we beat the appraisal green/early bronze plant monster and its 20+ late yellow children, could we have some basic dice numbers on the opponent's spiritual and physical defences/attacks then? So we have more data points of much stronger monster than the wolves (1 higher level on average)?
