So the above is what I'm looking at for turn 10 tentatively. Obviously not nearly complete but something of a starting point. Finish the cruiser, build a Courante for 1st squadron, build a frigate for 4th. The cruiser will most likely go to 2nd squadron. Upgrade half the system defense boats.

If all goes well we should have 443M or something like that next turn to play with.

Don't forget to update the plan for turn 9 to build some of the new torpedoes. I recommend dropping the ground batteries so we can equip 1st squadron with 4 Intolerant torpedoes, 2 for each torpedo corvette.

Unfortunately, the way the price works for Light Cruisers is that normal stuff on Escorts is multiplied by 4 on LCs. So that 3M is actually 12M.

The light cruiser can't have more than 1 engine, the ship has only 1 engine slot

I don't think it's worth it to refit a monitor this turn. Sure, Calavar doesn't have much good local defense, but more important is Waagh Legcutta. We can assign 4th squadron to protect Cavalar for a few turns, make sure it's secure until all 6 monitors are refitted.

It's possible it is a typo, but I believe that was a reward for rolling high.

Less repairs to fit one of the warriors with a better engine and a plasma gun, replaced the repair bay on the cruiser with a second engine as the plasma broadside is a short ranged weapon and additional work on it so we can afford better armor/engines if we design them next turn and refitted one of the monitors with mk2 guns and a bubble type shield at the cost of less repairs for our allies.

Also, as for the extra engine for the light cruiser, while an extra engine is tempting, the ability to effect repairs is better in my opinion.

Most enemies, particularly the Orks, are largely limited to short or very short ranged weaponry anyways. There's the occasional medium range weapons but by and large our adversaries are also limited to short range or less.

And the cruiser will be operating as part of our hammer. Meaning it'll have swarms of our fighters and attendant frigates covering its flanks.

Ah, right. @DaLintyGuy what is the max acceleration for a light cruiser?

Edit: Another question, how much difference does a repair bay make for ships? As in terms of survivability.

Huh, I thought the technology page had listed the Martinet-class as having a U slot, not an O slot. That is incredibly useful.

@aceraptor We could give the cruiser another set of lances as dorsal turrets, for even more firepower (would bring the cost to 139 M and 11 A total). I think that would be better than a repair bay. We can design a module dedicated to repairing other ships, and build a fleet auxiliary with the theoretical repair module and the underway replenishment module. It's not like we don't have other combat ships without repair bays.

Personally, I don't consider it worth it to use the escort plasma turret in one of the escorts we are building this turn, nor to use the looted engine. To me, it would make more sense to reverse engineer them on turn 10.

Also, with the monitors refits, we should just use Mk1 macrocannons and Haptrix pattern shields. That would cut monitor costs almost in half, 7 M per monitor, 42 M total. They are backline craft, they don't need to have the best technology.

As lances are concentrated single or few shot weapons they are countered by shields. Macrocannons and other weapons with the Battery rating do better against shields by weight of fire (and battery rated weapons do worse against armor).

Our first light cruiser should be a generalist design that can stand at the line of battle, not a sniper.

We can look into making one of the future light cruisers be a sniper.

Edit: Wait, I misread what you stated. You want to have the omni slot be another weapon? That's a interesting proposition. But I'm not sure its worth it. I'll sleep on it.

Our first light cruiser should be a generalist design that can stand at the line of battle, not a sniper.

We can look into making one of the future light cruisers be a sniper.

Edit: Wait, I misread what you stated. You want to have the omni slot be another weapon? That's a interesting proposition.
Yes, the Mk2 macrocannons would make the design too expensive to build in 2 turns, but we could go for either another set of lances for more long range firepower or a Cove hanger so the ship always has fighter support.

Edit: Another question, how much difference does a repair bay make for ships? As in terms of survivability.
Explain. Recreating the plasma broadsides after it is installed? Yes, itd have an extra penalty.

As much as you want, though adding extra engines past two, maybe three, makes things... Wonky.

Allows for easier recovery of damaged hulls, but for straight damage it is a gradual increase up to a certain point. Can decrease repair costs.

For the first I'm talking about studying the looted engine (to create an improved engine of our own that's 3A and 2M as well) and escort plasma turret (to replicate it) after they've been installed on a ship.

Ah, understood.

Edit: I need to go to sleep so I'll think on it. Hopefully by then others will have commented on the option.
