Last emperor ascended 50 years ago, and basically everyone expected Cai Shenhua to ascend when she got to white, and not build a clan. So white ascending is probably something that happens every 500 years or so.
 
I was refering to the "watch over us" bit.
As i see it, once ascended they don't have any ways to come back down, they are essentially dead , at least to this world.

It's been a fantheory for a long time that the reason the Ministry of Integrity demands every agents to get a Death Spirit is that the ascended Emperor, who is a Death Great Spirit, can thus watch over them that way.

I do not know how much they can actually do things, but we know at least the moon spirits can have some degree of influence over the splinters, given Xin was possessed by her greater self before.

Yall are still debating on what the horned guy might be and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact there's a city atop a fucking huge giant scorpion who most likely has children. So imagine cultivators riding giant scorpions throughout the Sands instead of horses or something.

Anyway, I don't think Qi mom's background has gotten more mysterious. if anything, I think I have a rough outline of what happened.

She's mortal. Was probably either a servant or entertainer contracted with nobility.

She pissed her boss off, who black balled her.


Even the lowliest cultivator wouldn't have to stoop to prostitution, and as she's repeatedly said, she doesn't really know a lot about the ways of immortals. (Her confusion about Zhengui comes to mind.). I think it's pretty safe to say she isnt, or perhaps wasn't, nobility.

Fairly confident in saying she was never a cultivator either.

Another point to doing the Gan option is that it may get us bonus cultivation from sneaking after all Gan probably wants us to track down the raiders.

Oh yeah. This isn't directly related to your comment but you reminded me of it; the Han are likely to be a challenge to the Guo within the scope of the quest. Their Granny Tiger is going to reach White soon enough (a century or two?) and has much more prestige than scorpions, so even if the Han have no intention of overtaking their overlords, others might view them as a way to stick it to the Guo at the very least. The Guo will need to deal with that decisively pretty quick and the groundwork for that conflict is likely to be laid in the near future.

In the new context of the case where Ling Qi marries into a Han vassal, as a stealth-focused cultivator she'll probably have plenty of spy work (or counterspy work).

Whether or not that's a positive, it's another angle to consider. I mention it because @Arkeus, and maybe other people, were considering Cai as a 'best chance' to get Ling Qi spy work'.

I think just doing the Appease the Forest job provides those successes. Personally I want Ling Qi to get involved in more fights, especially against other cultivators and not just spirit beasts. There was no violence last update, just sneaking around the dragon. If she's not doing the Gan raid next week, there'd be no action other than sneaking through the forest either. Let's get some mastery dots through combat experience already.
