Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

My thinking is that if we are going to do the Dragon stuff at all, starting earlier is better. It is probably going to take a couple of weeks to make preparations, try an approach, and so on; if we start a week later, that means a week less time for us to take advantage of the site for us and Zhengui.

Agreed, I know people are thinking of waiting until Green for the extra sucks but I am really leery of leaving Not!Kabuto hanging for too long. One month seems like a decent grace period. More then that, I can see him taking it as us dill dallying. I don't want him getting frustrated or annoyed with us. We have to be good as our word.

As much as I hate what he asked of us, because of the potential social fallout, if we don't do his favor this week then I'm going to have to INSIST we do it next week.

The vault warriors are nice and all, but I'd really like to be making our own trick arrows by the time of the tournament. At the very least they're free damage. An opening quad shot of three flare arrows plus a net could really tilt a fight, especially if the opponent has been prepping to deal with music arts.

EDIT: To debff the wolves to the extent where Xiulan can probably oneshot them requires Ling to win her clash, and as we saw during the Sun chase, Ling's offensive dice pool is anemic.
I would not be surprised if the Alpha had at least 30 dice for tracking (the same as Sun Liling's Dhartiri),
... Why are you letting Sun Liling scare you so badly?

Sun is a monster. She's third realm cultivator backed by a white level king. Random spirit beasts aren't getting anywhere near her dice, nor her spirit's. Especially ones that just broke through when spirits are naturally slower cultivators than humans.

We already managed to escape them at something like early second realm and then we scared them off with a load of our friends. The fear just seems excessive.

Actually. I'm thinking of adding the following free actions to my plan; what would people think of them?

-[] Ask Fu Xiang how urgent his favor is. We can do it now, but we could do a better and surer job closer in a bit over a month's time...
-[] Call in a Favor from Lady Cai. Can she find out where the last Test Site is, or who has passed it if it has been taken already?

It's an incredible site, and yet no one uses it.

I strongly suspect that getting it is going to be involved and expensive. Getting to green quickly and efficiently is more important to our short term and long term success. Especially with two third realms gunning for our head.

Honestly, I'm not 100% sold on getting it ourselves. I really like the fact that it will help Zhengui mature by the time of the Tournament, but you are right about the potentially-excessive cost.

The thing is, regardless of whether it is a good idea, it looks like the thread as a whole is pretty set on going for it, and if we are going for it earlier is better. That is why I'm having it in the plan for this turn.

well, better to do it and find out it's too expensive/not feasible, rather than say "Oh nobody else uses it, must be for a reason" and not even bother, only to find out we COULD have used it if we put in the effort.

Edit:Also, we don't even know nobody else uses it, since we only were there briefly.

We have a limited action economy, and a pressing need to get to third realm relatively soon.

There is nothing stopping us from approaching the dragon later.

Ling Qi had, in the wake of their last conversation, done a little research on the Sects relations with the various powerful spirits that resided on or near their mountain. It seemed that, in exchange for being allowed to live freely in Sect territory, they were expected to follow a number of rules. The big ones seemed to be that they were not allowed to do harm to mortals, or knowingly allow their get to do the so. They were not to interfere in Sect activities, and they were not to go out of their way to harm disciples out of malice.
I uh, think the bolded bit might be a typo

I'm not letting Sun Liling scare me and I don't appreciate the attempt to claim that using one of the only valid examples we have as a comparison is fearmongering.

Sun Liling, who is far more focused on her battle arts than learning ones to boost perception had 30* perception dice when loaded for bear. Her spirt, which given her temprement is probably also more specced for battle than pure perception, could muster 33*. So estimating that an alpha wolf, which is likely to be specced for tracking to have 30 is not unreasonable.

Yes on balance it might be on the higher side, so let's reduce it by 4 to 26 dice. In fact that was with techniques, so let's reduce it by another 2. Oh wait that's still one more dice than Ling Qi's stealth dice with it's realm autos cancelling out our stealth autos. Getting up close is a total toss up and claiming otherwise is utterly disingenuous.

*Before SCS penalty.

They don't need to roll 30+ dice to win, only 20~. And without the first strike bonus Ling Qi offensive dice pool hovers around 18 (also I don't recall any mention that the alpha just broke into green? Only that s/he is still in the early levels. And I am guessing that the wolves don't have the same explosive growth that bound spirits have).

Ling only really escaped the 15 or so yellow level wolves by leading them into another group of a dozen cultivators, who probably culled the pack a bit before Ling Qi returned with backup. And I kinda doubt that Xiulan can down a wolf per turn since all the combat so far has shown that cultivators are incredibly resilient.

Ling can't even run away to disengage since Xiulan is right there with her.

This reminds me of when we went to kill that condor.

Plenty of fear mongering, but we ended up wrecking it easily.

I'm fairly confident we can escape if we can't win. Xuilan is not a slowpoke.

Accursed bodyguard siblings, be slightly less interesting and don't become an action sink!

I really hope that whatever plan we go for ends up involving the Gan raider hunting option. If things end up spiraling out of control I would rather be at ground zero with a solid teammate instead of having a green just pop up to pin us down again.

[X] Plan Dragons, not Wolves
-[X] Use From Inventory: 3RSS, 1YSS, Highsun Pill

-[X] Grinning Moon bonus -> FZ
-[X] Overflow -> Physical
Actions
-[X] Research Dragons, and how one might be appeased
-[X] Train at the vent with Su Ling
--[X] Heart Meridian
--[X] (Minor) Work on formations with Li Suyin, working on a project with your friend will be fun
--[X] (Minor) The Ma sisters are pleasant enough to be around. Why don't you invite Su Ling to join you in sparring with them, she needs to get out more.
-[X] Explore and Train with Golden Fields
--[X] Falling Star Art
-[X] Train with Meizhen
--[X] Thousand Ring Fortress
-[X] Cultivate on your own
--[X] Spine Meridian
-[X] (Minor) You need escape contingencies. Start working on that.
-[X] (Minor) You never did get to go out have a night on the proverbial town with Xiulan, see if she's still up for that.
-[X] (Minor) Cai Renxiang is going to help you get your mothers legal troubles worked out, and give you a crash course on basic law to boot.

We need the Heart Meridian for FZ5, and the Spine Meridian for TRF4, so this vote gets them both going whilst using our Highsun Pill to get that last bit of bonuses and shore up our odds of success.
So I really dislike this plan. Why? Well it takes the dragon action AND it doesn't have a tutor for FSA. These two things together mean that we won't be ready for breakthrough Week 37. Ok, if we get amazingly lucky in our FSA roll OR we're willing to go for breakthrough with an art or two one roll away from leveling up (which I know PrimalShadow is not in favor of...neither am I).

Quite frankly I don't see why this plan doesn't use a tutor. It's very much worth it for being able to breakthrough a week earlier. I've argued against taking the dragon action this turn, and I stand by it - it's just not that important before breakthrough, and it could delay our breakthrough. But if you're going with the dragon at least use tutoring!

[X] Plan Dragons, not Wolves

It has the dragon minor, so of course I'll take it!
It's not a minor action, it's a major action. If it was a minor action I think the vast majority of people would be in favor of it.

Saying that your fears are excessive isn't the same thing as accusing you of fearmongering.

(also I don't recall any mention that the alpha just broke into green? Only that s/he is still in the early levels. And I am guessing that the wolves don't have the same explosive growth that bound spirits have).
There was also a rather a pair of larger specimens, closer to the size of a horse than a wolf among them. One a heavily scarred and thickly muscled beast with blue white fur, and the other slightly smaller and sleeker, with black fur flecked with white. Her art could not read cultivation exactly… but she got the impression from their qi that they were not exactly far from grade three.
