Going forward, we really should make a point of contacting all the teams and independents in an area whenever we give a Clear Seed to anyone.
I seem to recall voting to ask the Saints if there were any other meguca in town that we could help, but the idea didn't catch on....

unless Homura happens to be a really big fan of Irish Pop Hits.
Scottish.

But hey, we still haven't asked Homu if she's got a plane in her shield. :V
She claimed at one point to have an aircraft carrier in there, and a carrier would be effectively worthless without aircraft.

And whoever stole it knew about its existence...how? It hasn't even been a day. The only one who saw it (aside from the three we took with us to Mitakihara) was Niko.
Hence why we assume that it must be Hijiri's doing, as she has motive to be obsessively spying on her twin.

Who wants to speedrun this arc?

I feel like speed-running this arc, and I think I know how to do it.

Putting it forth for more experienced people to make use of, may make an official plan later. Meaning condense it significantly.

[ ] Plan Prepare to Scry

[ ] Get Homura to Time Stop and bring you in.

[ ] You need to get that Clear Seed back and comb and entire city for it.

[ ] Have Mami extend your range via ribbons, and attach a Grief sensing extendor at the end of it. You don't need to manipulate Grief to find the Clear Seed, you just need to know where Grief is. With Mami's kilometer+ ribbon range and multiple sensing extenders attached to her ribbons, further your omniscence, you can swiftly find the Clear Seed.

I recently did an archive binge and distinctly remember Sabrina coming up with a ring that extended her ability to sense Grief. All we need to do is retool it to be attached to Mami's ribbons, and we can comb the entire city for magical girls, Witches, Grief Seeds, and our Clear Seed from within time stop.

It would make things go much faster, and while I doubt it'd be game-set-match for reasons of drama, it would vastly accelerate getting the Clear Seed back.

Also scout for traps. Especially because if we find something via the ribbon, Mami can cut the ribbon off and we know a trap is around, and can go back and poke it.

Also, we were worried about this Niko being the fake, right?

So, we ask this Niko where she is, and once she answers, Homura immediately time stops and we fly over.

If she's where she says she is and has no Clear Seed, goodie.

If she's not where she says she is, warning.

If the real Niko is lying cold where she says she is, also warning.

Since Niko is apparently trying to kinda convince us to stay away, I'm suspicious of her.

Niko. Please. It's Niko.

Fun Trivia That Nobody Asked For™:

-Niko is technically a pseudonym; Kanna Hijiri is actually Niko's birth name, but her clone inherited it when her Wish erased her from public memory.
-While the meanings of most megucas' names are left vague (except Homura's) and written in hiragana, Niko is explicitly 二子 (probably most literally read 'second child'), to which she assigns the meaning 'two girls' (子 is a really common ending for female names in Japanese)

Just calling her Hijiri in private would be the quick and dirty way to metabomb her, actually.

If Hijiri is responsible for this, something I think would be funny to see:

"Kanna Hijiri, I presume?"
"Wait how do you even...?"
"I have approximate knowledge of many things. So I know there's an eighty percent chance you're trying to do something stupid".

So,
"I'm fine," Niko says, a trace of annoyance creeping into her voice. "Whoever it was got the drop on me and knocked me out. It was something intangible and contactless. Whoever it was ransacked my lab, I don't know what was taken yet."

I don't quite remember everything about PMKM, and frankly don't want to re-read it if I can help it. :p

Assuming Niko hasn't been replaced, who is the likely culprit here?

'something intangible and contactless'

Could Airi Anri use her 'biologica' powers to knock someone out instantly?

Or is it more likely that Hijiri used one her (the Pleiades') many, many tricks to knock Niko out, like Usagi's mind control, or Umika's memory magic? Hell, Niko herself has a skill she can use to 'stun' people; not sure if it fits, but surely Hijiri has plenty of ways to knock out someone in such a way?

The fact Niko is so sure she was knocked out by 'something intangible and contactless' is kind of worrying, actually. If she was knocked out in such a way... how would she know? Wouldn't it be more likely that she doesn't remember the event, due to being knocked out... or magic?

(But wait, if Niko was replaced... was replaced by a plant... The culprit must be Airi Anri!

Case Closed.

:V )

EDIT: Oh, wait, should we actually ask if it was Mirai who was tracking Niko back then?

EDIT 2: BTW,
"Of course not," Saki says. "We're the strongest magical girls in town."
We kind of should check if there's other meguca in Asunaro we don't know about, when we can? Need to spread the Empty Seeds, yo.

If I recall correctly, The Freezer contained ~34 Soul Gems at its maximum, which were then used to form Dawn of Hyades; around about a dozen of those (I'd have to check) can be inferred to be the Soujus' collection. Either way, 25-30 magical girls (including the Saints) is pretty massively overpopulated, given that Asunaro isn't implied to be a major metropolitan area, and even if some of those girls were from the surrounding area.

My favorite answer right now is: Hijiri is the culprit, and Niko hasn't been replaced because she's cooperating willingly.
Niko's wish was for Hijiri, and we've established that that does bad things to people's minds.

My second favorite answer is that Hijiri is still the culprit, and Niko has had an "Evil Nut" installed and is slowly turning evil.

Don't be silly. Niko is a SCIENCE!-tist. She's most likely EVIL by default. :p

This isn't what Evil Nuts do. They're basically magical Grief-concentrate needles; they're designed to turn humans into Pseudowitches and Puella Magi into actual Witches, though neither effect is immediate. When Saki gets nailed by one, she attempts to stave off the effect by setting up a lightning magic loop to repeatedly 'kill' and resuscitate herself, but ultimately bottoms out her magic and becomes a Witch anyway. Kazumi isn't either of those things, but the one she's infected with essentially starts breaking down her chimaera magiophysiology, including occasionally sending her into bouts of berserker rage.

Yep. Getting her name wrong is very disrespectful to Nokia, and getting Nook's name wrong will sour relations with the rest of Nike's team, to say nothing of our planned science sessions with Nicky in general. So pay attention to Noice's name, and we won't have any issues with Rico.
Wait, i though it's a hooligan revolt that burn a quarter of constantinopel?

Oh wait, that's nika revolt. :V

Although the Kazumiklones are the reason we even bothered going to pantslessiantown in the first place - they may be more reincarnation than resurrection, but that's a start on dewitching.

Honestly, even if it is Hijiri, it's pretty tempting to try to convince her to join us. On the flipside though, we need the Shock and Awe for later... Hmm, decisions, decisions.
