Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Some questions, @yrsillar.

1. What is Yan Renshu's cultivation level?
2. What is the distance from us to the hall?

I'm thinking we want to retreat here, but that doesn't mean we can't drop a rain of arrows on our enemies as we do...

1. You can't get a read on it
2. Your near the plaza edge, so two hundred-ish meters

Wait, @yrsillar, when Cai was subtly signaling Ling Qi to retreat, was she signaling towards the lecture hall, or was it more of a "get out of the way, I've got an area attack coming" signal?

Ling Qi interpreted it as 'keep going' she is assuming Cai would think of the lecture hall as a hard point since Ling Qi already thought of it

Regarding AOE:
Guangli is nearby as well.

I do not think it is about AOE here, Cai just doesn't know if we can fight, and thus is trying to protect us.

She has a perception art and has had it longer than we have. She's also probably trained it at least once. :V Her art is probably a better one than ours, which is, after all, a basic Sect art, and we've been in battles with her before. She knows our status.

The discussion about thieving previously to the update reminded me; @yrsillar, are Arts centered/themed around stealing a thing? By which I mean things like taking an opponent's Qi and filling up one's own reserves with it, taking "health" to heal one's own wounds or get temporary health boxes like from Thousand Ring Fortress, or stealing arts used by opponents during the battle (not in the permanent sense, but a termpoary one. Ie, if an opponent shoots a fireball, stealing that one fireball and shooting it back at him, or storing it for later. If an opponent has a technique granting him iron skin, stealing that iron skin for oneself. And so on.

Yeah there are arts that do those kind of things. Not as common as more direct stuff, but they exist. Huang Da has a few things in that vein.

@yrsillar You forgot this one re: threadmarking.

Thanks! I totally missed that and I'm glad you pointed it out.

Anyone who has done art I;ve threadmarked has two points to use of course.

[X] Retreat to the safety of the lecture hall
-[X] Once the fight breaks out, lay down a rain of arrows as you retreat.

This is what range on our bow is for, guys. Lets back out as requested, and do what we can to hurt our enemies as we do. The Armband + Meteor Shower combo means that we can do a surprisingly large amount of damage in a short period.

So the retreat option is Ling Qi following Cai's instructions, or at least what she interprets Cai's instructions to be?

Probably is, she is perfectly right to think that. We are down to half of our Qi, the people we brought with us are even more tired and bruised from their fights, and the enemy not only outnumbers us but they have fresh help coming in.

This is not a position where you wanna stay and fight a slug fest. This is a time to break away from the enemy with your forces, regroup at a hardpoint and try to recuperate and hold out for your own reinforcements.

So ideally I'd like everyone else to retreat while we stay and fire arrows once Cai makes her move at as long a range as we're capable. Assuming that's something we can pull off with a write in, I'll be voting for that.

Otherwise I'll be voting for retreat because then we're putting Gu in danger.

@yrsillar, I did another Suyin picture
It's weird how much I like drawing Suyin more than her actual character... I blame it on the short hair, eyepatch and the fact she's the character I can imagine being most expressive.

Also, the Meizhen one is on the normal threadmarks rather than Media
So I was thinking that as a third realm cultivator Meizhen is considered an adult by her clan and therefore able to cut her hair. We also know that her awesome Prism aunt Suzhen has a Metal specialty that Meizhen has no affinity for. All that brought to mind the saying "dress smart, feel smart" which inspired this picture!

Alternatively, @yrsillar asked for an image of punk rock Meizhen. It's probably one of those two...

People that are telling us to support Cai: You do know that Cai is the one that wants us to leave right?
So by staying we are actually going against what she wants.

So are Bai and Cai an item? I cant help but feel jealous/like Cai is maybe manipulating her.

Hey @yrsillar, been watching the quest for a while without participating much and I have a question. Did Ling QI get a combat breakthrough of some kind here?

His eyes widened when he saw the mist barreling down on him, but Xiulan's shouted command to follow, echoing weirdly in her mist was enough to get him moving. Ling Qi's control of the mist wavered for a moment as it enveloped him and she tried to include the boy. Something she hadn't done before. In the heat of the moment a spark of inspiration struck her though, and he adjusted a few notes in the next chord.

"Retreat is not always cowardice, but can become it if relied on over much. Think hard on what stands to be lost before choosing to cede ground," Ling Qi nodded rapidly, relief bleeding away some small part of the tension she felt. He didn't think her a coward for taking the pass or resent her for the decision.
This seems like a fairly relevant quote from Instructor Zhou.

So what might Ling Qi lose from continuing on into the meeting area? Well the only things I can think of are would be perceived as Ling Qi being subservient to Cai, and/or if Cai loses Meizhen being irritate, but pragmatically retreating would allow Xiulan time to regain Qi through meditation while also allowing Cai to buy time to allow her supporters to gather into one location.

Something to keep in mind is that Cai in all likelihood was told by Meizhen to expect Ling Qi to arrive with opponents in pursuit, and has planned accordingly. Like I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if she has already sent someone/Meizhen to inform Han Jian of the situation, and more importantly that his friend Ling Qi was already bailing his subordinates/friends out so he should head straight for the rally point.

[X] Retreat to the safety of the lecture hall

So I'm pretty sure the reason this is the final fight is that all other "fights" will pretty much be Han Jian showing up, and forming a small group to go "crush the rebels!", or rather anyone who is still around that moves slower than Ling Qi while she is playing FVM.
