[X] Retreat to the safety of the lecture hall

We've had enough of ignoring the advice/urging of our spiritual seniors.

Yeah, she figured out how to edit who is insulated from her mist. I'll change the text when I tinker with the char sheet later
Nifty.

That should be, hopefully, helpful later. I am also inordinately amused that Ling Qi is basically a moving storm system. :lol

This seems like a fairly relevant quote from Instructor Zhou.

So what might Ling Qi lose from continuing on into the meeting area? Well the only things I can think of are would be perceived as Ling Qi being subservient to Cai, and/or if Cai loses Meizhen being irritate, but pragmatically retreating would allow Xiulan time to regain Qi through meditation while also allowing Cai to buy time to allow her supporters to gather into one location.

Something to keep in mind is that Cai in all likelihood was told by Meizhen to expect Ling Qi to arrive with opponents in pursuit, and has planned accordingly. Like I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if she has already sent someone/Meizhen to inform Han Jian of the situation, and more importantly that his friend Ling Qi was already bailing his subordinates/friends out so he should head straight for the rally point.

So I'm pretty sure the reason this is the final fight is that all other "fights" will pretty much be Han Jian showing up, and forming a small group to go "crush the rebels!", or rather anyone who is still around that moves slower than Ling Qi while she is playing FVM.

Worst case?

We run, Cai loses.

[X] Retreat to the safety of the lecture hall

Much as I'd like to fight, we don't really gain a great deal from it now. Ensuring the wounded get to safety ensures that our combat strength won't significantly fall in the long run, and it would mean that they basically blew their ambush of "Literally fucking everyone in just the right places" and failed to break up the Cai Renxiang bloc. Even if she quits the field now to recover, her core strength remains completely untouched, while we've won several local victories against disproportionate levels of force and generally completely foiled their abilities to do more than bully the weak from a position of ambush.

That appearance changes if some of her Big Names go down or are seen to be defeated. It stops being "It takes treachery and overwhelming power just to mildly inconvienence Cai Renxiang" and turns into "Treachery and overwhelming power works, we should use it more often."

Disobeying a superior in a combat situation in order to fight an unknown with our exhausted and injured allies? Thats how FUBARs are born.

Ling Qi shouldn't get too big for her britches, with that single War dot. Not too impressive for any sort of inquisitor (like Jiao) on a track record to have 'makes decisions independently without proper ability or skills'.

No. The worst case is we stay, Cai is forced to stay: Cai, GG, LQ, GX, and FY all lose -- along with anyone who tries to intervene to save a growing group of cultivators with no qi.
Yes, if we stay it would be very, very hard for Cai to justify leaving to both her men in general and Meizhen in particular. If she was planning on leaving as soon as possible it would kinda be really bad for her.

OTOH, everything we have seen of her character is that she is not the type to leave, and there is a decent chance Ling Qi herself might help sway the tide of the battle. The big problem is Xiulan and Fan Yu, who are dead weight right now, or so they appear to be. The big thing there is either they cause our downfall (as we can't run without them, and Cai can't run without us, and they can't fight and protecting them will be painful) or they are a beacon for Han Jian coming to the rescue and help us pown Renshen.

Well, there is also the possibility that they are not doing much in the fight but aren't a huge weight, and we manage to eke out a win, too.

We have 23 qi left, likely not much for a full fight but is there any chance we could throw a buff while running?

An amazing update! Glad that we were successful in our exfiltration attempts and we became a moving storm system to sweep up all of our allies and carry them to safety. It looks like Sun was driven off so we don't have to worry about that. As for what we should do, I'm perfectly fine with following Cai's lead on this one. No reason to try and meddle with the plans of others. If she doesn't want us here that means she thinks we would A) not be helpful to her plan, or B) would hinder her plan from working. One of them is neutral while the other is down right detrimental. As such, I'm going to be voting for

Yeah there are arts that do those kind of things. Not as common as more direct stuff, but they exist. Huang Da has a few things in that vein.
Neat. I know most other players probably won't go for it, but I now really really want arts like that. Mostly for the technique-theft; the amount of shenanigans it would open up, both tactically and just in general, would be absolutely amazing.

So are Bai and Cai an item? I cant help but feel jealous/like Cai is maybe manipulating her.
We have no idea of that. All we know is that Bai regards Cai somewhat warmly, and calls her by her full name instead of by her title.

It is possible that this is due to a romantic relationship, though I personally suspect it to be a something platonic. Are people not allowed to feel warmly toward each other without being an item?

You speak of madness and heresy sir and or madam. Turn in your questing card.

Not to mention that Bai has legitimately a lot to gain from a long term alliance with CRX.

It sounds more like a mutually beneficial arrangement than one side trying to manipulate the other.

Tricky... I would favor supporting Cai - if it weren't for her telling us to keep retreating.

The question here, as people have said, is whether or not she's telling us to run because she has a plan that we'd be in the way of, or because she's being self-sacrificing. And the problem is that we don't really know Cai and her abilities well enough for Ling Qi to know.

I've read at least a couple of stories when at some point the protagonist makes a plan, is in position to properly execute it... and then despite orders, an ally interferes and tangles up the plan.

Can we please not be that person?
