I don't think it was a bad move for us to go looking for Gu. Meizhen is Green and going right now to support Cai while we go get reinforcements. More numbers is always good especially as Su Ling planned on separating Cai's council and forces.

We might be able to sneak Gu and Fan out without triggering the formation and making a break for it, or we may be stuck making a running retreat. But I think the people who made the formation are also hurt and are at a point where they are being careful with their Qi expenditure. There are nine of them, and while they are not weak, but they are also not fresh. That helps us out.

I'm just going to go light some incense for the dice roll that us likely going to come concerning us leaving the formation.

Good point.

Man, I don't expect this to be easy, but we are incredibly well set up to handle this situation.

It's eight or nine people that are late second realm or higher. Something tells me that they are still in pretty good shape as I doubt Gu is badass enough to take them all.

She was dubious of her own words. It would be dangerous and she didn;t even know if more than a handful of Cai's minions would still be standing on return. There were at least eight or nine people in the woods around them, none below late second realm.

We either make a clean break or we get squished. That's all there is to it.

Given that they choose not to take down Gu I have my doubts over their abilities in a fight.

I would prefer not to fight them because the Qi expenditure would make us unable to join the important fight with Cai but I think we can take them.

So, what struck me is the attitude that Ling Qi took to get the information from that random mook. That's going to spread and I don't know how to deal with it. If we keep doing stuff like that, eventually someone is going to call our bluff and then we will have a choice: dive in and make good on the threat, or back out and make it known that we were bluffing the entire time. If we go forward with the threat, then it will become easier and easier to scare people into submission and that is not always a good thing. However, if we back out then our reputation to actually make good on our implied threats is going to plummet.

It was an interesting look into what type of reputation we have in the sect though.

Even Ling Qi recognized it as a trap.

Gu isnt as strong as Ling Qi and Ling Qi is late second realm. Our opposition is eight Ling Qi's or better. even auto sux would grant them victory against gu. They even poke at her to prevent her from recovering qi, making her dead weight in a fight.

They didn't smash Gu because she makes better bait as the walking injured. if she's taking penalties she will slow us down as we try to escape, but if she were unconscious she would be less worthwhile to carry out of here because killing or maiming other students is technically against the rules.

And before you bring up Su ling. She is basically a nobody, I doubt the elders will be as blase about a noble getting maimed.

Edit: and I forgot to mention onslaught. If we get caught, we take defensive penalties for each successive attack. We aren't fighting our way out of this.

Hey @yrsillar i am pretty sure that:

Mystery Egg
A leathery shelled egg the size of both of your fists put together. It is black and shot through with lines of dark green. It moves sometimes. It seems like it might be close to hatching.

should no longer be in our inventory

I just caught up and I'm curious: what's the viability of using hit and run tactics to hound and cripple the offensive of the opponents?

Seems obvious to me, and i'd bet money on the fact she already has the rep. Heck, with her natural social accumen, she probably had the rep for months before begining to realize why people usually talk somewhat politely to the her street-urchin self...
The wuxia people are highly sensitive to social reputation and relasionships of other people.
Afterall offending the "son of..." or the "disciple of..." or "the nice of the cousin twice removed of the step-brother of..." is usually a good way to get yourself killed or worse in wuxia.
The only part that's surprising is that, somehow, people don't link the clues together when it concerns the protag.

Depends. For the current fight, we don't really have many options to hit and then run away. We need to help keep Xuilan and Fan Yu safe and that drastically limits our mobility. Then there is also the time constraints that are in play here where we don't have enough time to take down the 8-9 people down individually. Although, FSA's 4 person blind ability (with the champion band?) could dramatically improve our odds of getting away.

However, in general, we are pretty well set up for hit and run tactics. FSA allows us to slow down pursuers as well as blind them and with long distance fighting, hit and run tactics are always a good idea. We have the speed and the arts, so I think we have a viable method upon which to do hit and run tactics.

Edit: ok, looking at FSA (Meteoric Shower) the Champion's Armband is absolutely perfect. If we get the first strike with this thing and pay 7 qi, we can get four attacks all with the alpha strike bonus where the opponents have to pass 2 wits or be blinded. This is a ridiculous combo.

What if we leave Xuilan and Yu where they are?

Unfortunately, there is only one option for that and that involves going out to get other people. Even then, the time and qi restraints for taking out 8 people one by one is going to be extremely taxing.

The goal here is to break out and run for it in order to get out of the trap location as soon as possible. The more time we spend taking out these guys, the less of an impact we have on Cai's fight (if we have any at this point) and the more risk that we will run out of qi.

By ourselves and with plenty of time, it would be a great tactic. However, in the current situation where we need to be worried about a possible mad rush to take out Xuilan (once they realize she's gotten reinforcements) as well as the time and space it would take to do a hit and run, I just don't see it as being a likely option.

What if we have the two of them run for it and we snipe those who show up?

Yeah, the good news is that Ling Qi is actually... Really good at harrying larger number of foes to support an ally's retreat. Give them our Qi Cards to break any Formation Traps, and Ling Qi can harry pursuit with FSA, which has lots of moves that either blind or stun people--and one rapid fire attack too.

That is probably what we will be doing with the current winning vote if we fail the stealth aspect of it. Xuilan and Fan Yu are in little condition to fight, and so if we can keep people pinned down with our arrows we might be able to get out. If the enemies have to take an action against us, then they won't be able to move twice allowing Xuilan and Fan Yu to sprint ahead. A couple turns of that, and we should be able to run and catch up to them because our speed is ridiculous in low light, which the shadows in the afternoon counted as.

So there is a good chance at using our arrows to provide covering fire should a fight break out. Xuilan might provide some cheery fires of her own. At that point, it would be a running fight and running fights are actually what we are good at.

...I had originally thought the Champions Armband could only spend Qi to ignore penalties due to wounds. But reading it again, the description doesn't say anything about that. By the wording it should totally work with Meterotic Shower. Wow, yea, this armband is amazing for us.

That one combo turns MS from an ok technique into a machine gun of death and destruction. Four arrows at full power pounding into targets will wreck a mob of peers.

Dope, thanks for humoring me
No problem! I always love to discuss different things about Forge of Destiny!
