Captain St James swung by the hulk, ascertained there were no lifesigns aboard, and then withdrew to the edge of the systems to await the arrival of a scratch task group from Task Force 6 and our Caitian allies in Task Force 7. Spearheaded by the Excelsior, this group cleared the area and confirmed that the Konen had withdrawn. However, a number of self-destructing probes had been left behind, which we have since cleared out. We almost missed them, but Captain Oriskany on the Fidelity caught the faint signatures. An important discovery was that the Republic did have time to launch lifepods, as many bays were empty. However, we found no sign of them in the immediate area, nor any transponders. Thankfully, we also found no wreckage of the same, so we must conclude they are still alive, though prisoners of war.

There are times I wish we weren't playing the Federation....

[X][NASH] Instruct Nash digs in and fortifies (30pp to deliver Starbase, minefield, weapon platform, tachyon net construction materials, 10% and 5% chance of ignoring or insubordination)

Only good choice here. Even if Nash does something crazy this is something we'll need going forward. 40% for immediate reinforcements is too high, non-immediate it's too high and could lead to a disaster.

@ Hybor I'm not going to get b8ed here m8

Hold the line, Nash!

Holy shit, this is what happens when Nash is in charge lol

In other completely overshadowed news...
[Settlement rights to 5 Firefly delivered to UESPA - a task force is being formed to commence settlement. In exchange, UESPA aid with heavy industrial equipment and expertise is being arranged for Merfara and Ferasa]
So the Humans win the rights, as expected, and they're sending in a task force into the GBZ, along with some economic aid toward the Caitians.

Good news everyone: more T'Kon toilets found!

Starfleet Intelligence Signals Intercept Addendum
Fleet traffic believed to be using protocols we affiliate with the Konen fleet has been picked up within the Gabriel Expanse.

I'm guessing the percentages are all up to the dice roll... Yeah, no.

EDIT: The reminder of what Picard endured in Chains of Command has caused me to change my mind. If there is anything that's worth Sulu sacrificing his position for, it's to keep that from happening to the captured crew of the Republic.

[X][NASH] Authorise an offensive and write-in reinforcements (40% chance President summarily fires you for authorising a major attack on the eve of the elections, 40% lesser consequences, 20% no care)

(Reinforcements may only come from CBZ, SBZ, Amarkia, Apinae, Orion Sectors due to travel time)

I was thinking of authorizing the offensive - it feels like the right move as digging in will encourage further raiding whereas a strength to strength offensive will force battles that favor our force composition. However, looking at the sector garrisons, if we want to keep D reqs our only real options are the Valiant (Connie-B in Apinae), Spirit (Excelsior-A in CBZ), and two Centaur-A from the SBZ - and that's pulling things really thin. So we will be replacing the Republic and adding two frigates and an Excelsior-A, which really isn't anything at all. We simply don't have the ready reinforcements for this move.

I want to note that on some clarification from @OneirosTheWriter , option 1 and 2 are predicated on Sulu ordering it without looping in the President first, in other words, the beg forgiveness rather than permission route. While it is tempting to see what Nash the Miracle Worker can do, I don't think it's a good idea at all to make that sort of move. Plus, as @SynchronizedWritersBlock noted, we're adding like 11C total. I'd take a big risk like that if we knew we'd do something decisive, I can't really feel the same about doing something so major under the nose of the President with completely unknown odds of success.

Time to fortify.

@OneirosTheWriter, the Assets section is outdated again. Doesn't show the Republic as lost, and doesn't show which supply ship that the Apiata (or Starfleet) lost.
edit: just confirmed on discord that the hit & run attack didn't destroy any ships

After our meeting with the Apiata, we are told they are considering relying primarily on their full Queenships for hive defence and dispatching a third Little Queenship team to bolster their forces in the Gabriel.
I'm also not seeing this third Little Queenship team anywhere, despite this notice from 2315.Q3. Did they even send one yet, even after Apruzza was discovered?

And this:
Current Requirements:
1 Station (Collie) - 1S 1B
1 Station (Bean's Star) - 1S 1B
1 Outpost - 41 Miele - 2S 2B
3 Reinforced Outposts (Sguirri, Collie) - 9S 9B
1 Outpost (31 Miele) - 2S 2B
3 Mining Colony - 3S 6B
4 Explorer - 4S
4 Cruiser - 4S
8 Escort - 2S
7 Auxiliary in action - 2S

15 raw br, 25 raw sr from Collie Mining Colony - 15b/yr, 25s/yr - 25S 15B, handled as part of regular infrastructure

Apiata - 8S, 5b
50 raw br from Sguirri XI Mining Complex - 50b/yr, 1 Bumblebee (swapping Sm-0.5Bk) trip /month - Handled as part of regular infrastructure

Amarkia - 7s

13 Small, 1 Bulk Cargo
Apiata - 9 Small Cargo, 2 Bulk Cargo - Two Bumblebees atached
Amarkia - 7 Small Cargo

Total Available:
40 Small, 48 Bulk Cargo Capacity in regular Cargo/Freighter ships
48 Small, 12 Bulk Cargo Capacity in Bumblebees
36 Small, 46 Bulk Cargo Capacity in Amarkia

Assigned:
USS Yagok, USS Luna Maru - Upkeep
Bumblebee 3 (2 servicing Sguirri XI)
doesn't look to have changed since 2316 except one more outpost at 41 Miele and 31 Miele, and an additional mining colony. Not sure how accurate this whole section is anymore.

The member world assets are also about as outdated, as they don't include the Caitian auxiliaries. This whole section is redundant anyway.

Once again we simply lack the ships to make a difference. Why does Starfleet always get the short end of the stick when it comes a the Federation's democratic system.

We should be able to shuffle forces sector-by-sector spinwards and corewards though, and take most of the ships from the listed sectors (CBZ, SBZ, Amarkia, Apinae, Orion Sectors). Although that would leave our other border zones, along with Rigel and Ferasa, shorthanded.

... I wish we could send in more.

Ideally, I'd send in a

But, yeah.

Salt. Salt. All of the salt.

I'm working on this.

Strongly favoring this, it doesn't matter much if Sulu gets fired, we always have a next PC, the chance to strike back right now is too goood.

There will come a day where the Cardassian's will be brought to task.

But alas it won't be this day.

Just be careful Nash and don't pull a Kirk he had the narrative on his side and didn't have to deal with dice rolls.

Some napkin math suggests we do in fact have a strong advantage in combat strength right now. It depends mostly on how good our reinforcements are, if we can bring in ~20C we'd put ourselves over the top - no trap could be expecting that. However, someone else will have to figure out the shuffle required to get that many more ships.
