Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

You know, I don't particularly like Cai. But I despise Sun Liling. Cai is an aspiring power-mad tyrant, but her regime is far better for Li Qing than Sun's anarchy would be. Sun is like everything wrong with the Blood Knight archetype and shows what it would be like to be living under one instead of watching from afar and gushing over how 'cool' he or she is.

That said I can't justify trying to run because I really doubt we can make it.

She is not a friend of sun liling And do just a favour for her some thing she wanted to do anyway

We don't need to start with a bad first meeting
We may can make her an ally
Or at least not a problem for us
But if if we run i don't believe that this will going to mak a good first impression

And her ambushing us to prevent us helping our friends and Bai is a good first impression?

She wanted to talk, she should have come earlier.

Stalling us while our friends are being maimed is not of the good.

I am fairly confident the strategy of "we can jump off a cliff! Follow that, suckers!" should work out. Yeah, it's plausible she has a flying talisman (though being called ruffian might hint she doesn't have much wealth) but that still take time to take out/activate.

It should be fairly doable to jump off the cliff, get out of sight and use trackless escape. Risky, but doable, I think.

How close are we to the cliff? And how high is it?

I'm going to look through the update for a reread, but I'm not sure it's said. However, we do know that upon finding the argent vent Su Ling used ropes to take us down the cliff on the way back, so presumably it should be less than 100m (we can negate up to 100m of falling damage).

do you mean cai or someone else?

Because we have no information what happened just that sun liling And cai should be fight where and who support sun liling is something we don't now

We just now that we surrounding from 3 people and one is at least in the green stage
And have at least one spirit maybe all three have one

Yay have finally found out how quotes works

We've been told Bai isn't (currently) in danger, and she's emphasized that her word is important to her, so if we listen, we may be able to get the game plan and better help Bai later.

Two leading options:
1) She has outright said that she is here to stall you. Escape and join back up with as many of your friends as you can manage. Even if it means dealing with her two lackeys too.
2) She wants to talk, then she can talk. You'll listen and plan.

Neither is likely to be automatically wrong, so fearmongering is pointless. I guess the difference between the two is one is less extreme than right and wrong, more how we go about dealing with things.

The first feels very yang to me. It's the obvious blunt choice, unyielding in our passion and conviction. She is obviously someone whose goals don't align with ours so we have to work against that, oppose her in all her aims. This will look the best admittedly. We'll come across as loyal to our allies which is good but the problem with being known to charge straight ahead is we become predictable and easily directed.

The second is pretty passive, quite yin. It's feeling out for the situation, tenuous steps rather than pushing an outright confrontation. It's also the vote that seems somewhat cowardly, we don't put any obvious effort into regrouping and can come across as unmotived and disloyal. But we have to note the second sentence. While listening to what Chu Song has to say Ling Qi won't be sitting complacently. She'll be using what she notices and hears to figure out where to go from there, what to ask to get the most benefit of the talk.

The duel option is in my opinion the most fake. It's the token effort to come across as loyal and trustworthy while putting as little at risk as we can. It's not wrong either I don't think. If you don't believe they'll be excessive towards our friends a token effort against a third realm is nothing to scoff at but it's not something I agree with. Ling Qi wants to be a better friend and person but that's a personal goal, appearances aren't as important to her. On the other hand if you actually believe she can win it might be the best of both worlds, Song lives up to her word and we get to help our friends.

I really do think it's disingenuous to treat any option too negatively. Unless we belive we can win the duel won't achieve much but it's questionable whether we can achieve much regardless. The choice to leave may not work and we'll face the most immediate force but we are quite well equipped for escaping, we just haven't had much chance to use it. The talking option isn't the one with the most immediate gratification but Qi is driven, intelligent and observant enough to use it to be better prepared to escape and help our friends.

So, coming back to Fu Xiang for a bit.
"Then we remain on the same page," he said lightly, spreading his hands. Ling Qi could not help but notice the lack of tea on the table between them this time. Was he in a hurry? "The target is young lady by the name of Wen Ai, of the Ebon Rivers Wen family, if that means anything to you," he explained,

Ling Qi debated on playing it off like it did, but it would really only hinder her. "I'm afraid it doesn't," she replied, leaning back in her seat. "I'm still learning the biggest names you know?" Her effort to learn the basics of the political scene really only extended to the most important or immediately relevant things.

"They are a fairly new, if wealthy family," Fu Xiang explained without missing a beat. "Holding a count title. Nothing that should be too troubling for one of your obvious talent."
Now, for those who missed it, Counts are Violet-ranked, and are just below dukes usually, which are the governors of a province. So, huh, I am not sure if he was trying to lay the praise a bit thickly there, or if he was trying to screw us over. I think it's the former. Probably.

Still, given how...off... Ling Qi is about 'what is considered normal', it's very possible he did take advantage of her naivety.

Information in and of itself may not be bad, but the actions we take to get it can have consequences. And what we gain from the information doesn't inherently outweigh what we may lose to get it.

I think that both of the leading choices lead to interesting outcomes, and I would be happy with either of them, but this isn't the best reasoning.

This is where I will agree to disagree. To me information is extremely valuable. Taking one action now to learn what is going on will save us actions and embrassment later on. Of all the options talking has the least number of unknowns and provides answers to help make future choices.

[X] She wants to talk, then she can talk. You'll listen and plan.

There's a third realm and two lackeys here to tie us up, I think that's a pretty good excuse to not help Cai out as far as it goes. And I'm really curious why she keeps referring to her as a 'demon', perhaps there's things about the heiress she knows?

Talking is the 'comforting' option to me. It's deciding we can still do this and being unyielding about getting the most of what we have right in front of us, and rising to the bait she is giving. It's refusing to talk to her but also refusing to leave, choosing to be stationary.

However, it's also something that both Ling Qi and Chu Song flat out say is disloyal to Cai: this is why Chu Song considers 'if you want to be loyal then fight me', and Ling Qi thinks 'Well, I can fight her, but I can also run away. Or I can accept what she wants and plan'.

Sure, 'more information' is nice. But information like "Yeah, the inner circle is being round up and being shot being shacks except for Meizhen as she is too strong" just tells us that talking to her gave time for Sun Liling's faction to cripple our friends.

. . . Actually, she could have stalled us by arriving openly and requesting to talk. She saying that she wants to talk after mentioning about the the attack happening? Like the others can actually signal us to come when we're in the Vents?

Kind of circular reasoning... Makes a paranoid suspicious.

She is not quite formal with either Cai or Sun, but offers platitude for Bai, not even going into the standard snake fare against her.
+waggles hand+

Might be she wants to talk, confident she is good enough to stop Ling Qi, caught too early on ambush preparation, wants to keep the word of her word to Sun -caught in an obligation like Kang- or any other possibilities.

The golden fields group is off doing there own super secret thing I think. Are they even in the area? As for the rest of the inner council do we care if they get crippled? None of them are friends with us really. We are not that loyal to the Cai faction. We are in it for the easy money and to get people off our back from challenging us nonstop. I honestly do not care what happens to the inner circle that does not have the golden fields in it.

Information however will let us know what their plan is and where to go to either help or pick up the pieces.

To me the consequence of acting without knowing is far worse than waiting to learn what actions we should take.

Han Jian and Han Fang were away at the beginning of the week.... but Gu Xiulan was there, alone. She is also known to have fought against many of Sun Liling's minions and went personally against both her and against Kang Zihao later, as part of the main strike team. So Gu Xiulan will most likely be targeted, either alone or with Fan Yu. Of she is lucky, with Han Jian and Han Fang if they came back.

Also, Cai Renxiang gave us minions, gave us resources and gave us a powerful talisman after we helped her. Even if you don't care that Ling Qi would be breaking her word to help protect the peace, the potential loot for helping her is significant.

I do care about Ling Qi betraying her word, though.

I can understand staying out of the fighting down below and allowing the government to collapse. I honestly would not mind if that won and we returned to utter anarchy with no rules and fighting everywhere. We got what we needed from Cai with peace to hatch our turtle and the dress.

When I started writing this I had my vote for running typed in, but in the process of it I convinced myself to hang out and talk and kill time. Down with Cai. It will be us and Bai and our friends against the world. Peace only makes us weaker.

This is true. I too don't want ling Qi to break word. However to me this feels like a set up. Bai is probly off with cui helping him grow. We are pinned by three peers. My current guess is the other inner group are currently facing their own distractions.

It is almost like there is an information broker on the mountain willing to sell any scrap of info shrug

This setup screams to me that sun lilling wants to duel Cai one v one. However this is just speculation without more information. Which we currently have almost none.

To me these choices have nothing about yin or yang levels or are willingness to help our friends but rather how much information we want or need before we act.

...I honestly think running is the smarter option, so I'm sticking with that vote, but the more I read the discussion, the more I'm really interested in what the outcome of talking would be. I'm probably not switching, but I think I wouldn't be too upset if talking won either.
