A large show of force only requires the EC ship for the show of force and diplomacy.I really don't think we can commit the Atuin and lose EC events for 12 months.

As the guy who wrote TUP and keeps indicating they should be in power, this is a good analysis from Akuz. Motarr's election stump claimed that the Federation is the New Orion Republic, and that the Union could better provide galactic leadership like the old Empire if it's a part of that rather than separate.
Well, in my mind anyways. Dunno what Oneiros might then, hence why I wanna kick this to the Prez
I don't think trading with raiders and slavers is going to look good. Or if it's even legal.
Didn't we ban that under the Anti-Slavery Act we passed against the Syndicate?
Last I checked, Yrillian raiders aren't sanctioned by the central government. If we are not willing to enguage positively, we loose half of our political toolkit.
If we see them doing such things, that is a call to cut things off, but until then, we only have a strong suspicion. We already deal with the Yirillians who do minor raiding.
I'd say that and an element of "Been in Too Long."(On a Headcannon side note, I suspect that if the CAP was defeated by the TUP in recent elections it was in large part because the goals that the CAP was established for during the first revolution were accomplished and they're in a period of realignment because they won the impossible fight after decades and... now what? Making things worse, the upper ranks signed a selfless self-denying pledge along with the new constitution to assuage fears of the CAP Government afixing themselves a permanent place in power. At the very least, the oldest, most experienced cohort of the Idealistic wing of the CAP are out of power. Maybe even permanently retired. Either way the TUP were quicker off the mark to rebrand themselves and figure out a new reason d'etre)
Think of it as practice for major wars?[X][ADVICE] Does Starfleet consider protecting the Ataami to be feasible? What would be required from Members or Affiliates?
-[X] Starfleet can provide roughly provide about 50% of the minimum required combat capacity required without undue effort. The remainder plus any margin would ideally come from member fleets. Our initial analysis based mostly on proximity suggests the Caitians, Vulcans, Qloathi, Seyek and Tellarites are in the best position to contribute; however, deciding what affiliates to draw on specifically should be your decision, based on Council and Affiliate diplomacy and politics. So long as we gain the other half we need. If necessary we can provide 40C by ourselves, but it would put a severe strain on operations elsewhere. In your dealings you can emphasize the forward defense nature of this, in addition to the fact we're helping a prewarp civilization. Though again, use your best judgement for the approach you wish to take to sell this to the members and affiliates.
I dunno, constantly drawing on the member fleets would be rather unwise. I mean, here, at least, it's for a good cause, but.....
I believe that the hypothesis being argued is that a surge would reduce or remove that requirement. I guess that the xenopsychologists would've suggested it if it was an option, though, if we're arguing from that perspective.

Out of Curiosity/WAIFU WARS, I wonder who we should assign to command this force?

Yes and I am specifically and vehemently disagreeing with that hypothesis.I believe that the hypothesis being argued is that a surge would reduce or remove that requirement. I guess that the xenopsychologists would've suggested it if it was an option, though, if we're arguing from that perspective.
Going to reassess when the tech completes.@OneirosTheWriter you don't list a defense requirement for Gaen. Does it increase the current 18D defense requirement for Sol Sector?
Are you maybe waiting to update because we are about to (at the end of this research turn) complete the first technology of Forward Defense that rebalances the Defense requirements to border sectors?
Give Samhaya Mrr'shan her promotion and assign her?
I don't think we know any other characters who are currently Commodore or Captain eligible for promotion, suitable for the position and not needed elsewhere (ka'Sharren should stay in the GBZ).
