Accuracy to real world is not something that is easy to do for a game system. Let's keep complexity as minimum as possible.

Honestly, if we don't bring the group together, the Han Jian action is only a treading water action, and we can't afford them. Backlog is fundamentally superior to River, as it doesn't waste an action on standing still.

The Han Jian social action plus the Han Jian co. training are not just treading water, but also breaking through into the trouble, and hopefully, starts to take care of it.
Of course, I would vastly prefer to have a true introduction between the groups, one as the resourceless finders of a great (for our current realm) site, and the other as the resourceful group that might sponsor said finders.
Someone mentioned that granting gifts and facilitating business deals are signs of favor and friendship at a less modern age, and a cultivator culture might still consider the same.
EDIT: But then again, mom vs. hairdo? What the?
I know Social wants to get the third side of Ling Qi's SLs into closer contact with the estranged one, but it edges out the filial piety and as I mentioned before, hill to die on for me.

I'd actually argue that a social action that's about giving us breathing room for getting a social link not have a bad end for a long, long time is more useful than "advancing" on a new social action. Meizhen/Token/Mom, to me, all risks being social actions that will need another 3+ social actions to continue their quests, which might mean a very heavy investment of up to 15 action just for those.
And while the Meizhen one is one I want to do, I'd argue that the mom one is iffy and the Token one is just shiny mystery box. We really can't afford to begin new social quest chains all the time as it creates a hug backlog.
It's not because @yrsillar gives us shiny plot hooks that we need to trigger them.

Well, that won't happen. We don't have the free social actions to waste them so. This will be the last action we spend here for some time. So you need to think of it in that context. And that context is...
Yeah, that. And we can't expect the vent to stay a secret - they're know, and people will be watching us. Even if no one finds out the location, they'll figure out we know from our behavior/resource usage.
At that point, it is better to just accept the social link is going to drown and move on rather then spend actions helping it tread water. The worse case scenario is we waste four or five of our vary vary limited actions on this thing, the Social Link goes into reverse anyways, and we have nothing to show for our investment of time. But the fact of the matter is that even success isn't worth that many actions.

Buying breathing room is only useful if you buy a lot, and I'm unconvinced this will buy us more then a month.

Stop being paranoid about the letter to our mother. It's likely to be a month or two before we hear back on the fast side, and if we do then... we spend an action sending another letter or something. There's no grand time sink at the end of this action. Maybe, maybe, she drops some hint about the other side of the family, but there's not much we can do about that. We can't leave the sect, not that I would want to, and given that the range of follow-up available to us is quite narrow. Maybe some research in the Archive, but besides that? It's just a nice thing to do for our mum.

Yeah the mom vote is important because it's an actual regret of MC that's been brought up in her breakthrough and several other times. Honestly the money and letter would most likely be a shock to her and we won't recieve a followup for some time. But it would be nice to get that out of the way to clear her consience
Honestly I think you guys are all overreacting. Just because Han Jian is jealous doesn't mean that our relationship with him is dead or even close to being dead. Heck some people already decided that the relationship is a forgone conclusion. And just because the two groups didn't get along to well when they first met, doesn't mean that at the first hint of them interacting again shit will blow up. Just because some people don't get along with each other doesn't mean they can't come to an agreement.

Ah, but why are you assuming that those are the last free social actions we would take?
I am assuming the similar about sharing, and that the next week is the make or break about tying the SLs together, but Social Animal went full hog into trying to tie the SLs together, and forgetting about backlogs... Including filial piety that Ling Qi has been worrying about. I can say goodbye to tokens, I can (humorously) mourn what lost chance they might be, but I would not want to hold off about contacting Ling Qi's mother any longer.
Does it matter to cultivation? Probably not, but philosophies and principles affect the cultivator.
Regarding Vent's secrecy? Well, the place is still closed by illusions at least, but I admit, Huang Da already knows the spot from following the trio, and others might do the same. Still, inviting is a different matter than being followed. Again, I would vastly prefer to open up about the vent at last, but the combination of votes on the plan that does so doesn't agree with me.
And, I dislike considering SLs as investments that has to return something to be worth Ling Qi's while. In fact, most SLs already produce tangible benefits that probably are worth more than cultivating/training alone. Do they have to give even more at each rank up to be worth an action?
Eh. A bit bitter about that. Let's move on.

I know FixerUpper linked a yrsillar post about this topic, but given that it's a Chinese culture, a lunar calendar should be expected anyway. The traditional correction for the drift between the lunar and solar calendars was a leap month, rather than leap weeks as you suggest.

You know, while I'm sure that there are logistical problems that cultivator armies bring to the table, it must be so convenient to be a logistics officer for something like that. I mean, at least in comparison to IRL/mortal armies. Your soldiers don't need as much food or water, their tolerances/immune systems are probably way better, they can selectively forego sleep for way easier watches...I mean, the other guys can do it too, so really it's a meaningless advantage, but just imagine! A really veteran troop can probably hit the point where they don't need food or water or sleep at all. Then the quartermaster's only job is drugging his soldiers so they can keep cultivating and have enough qi.

We are not "hiding" it from jian's group because we are arseholes, this belongs first and foremost to su and li whose unique sensory talents found it.
And our attempts to get jian's group to not be arseholes to them so far have failed.
We can keep on plugging at it, but we are hardly to blame if they are not willing to play nice.
Also, as others mentioned, secrets are a staple here. Which of jian's team has offered to teach us their family arts? not a single one.
Also, some people were claiming earlier that we never promised to not share our finds and we are just doing it out of politeness towards li and su.

Now, I am not opposed to working with them diplomatically to find a resolution that would let us share it with han's group. BUT, we cannot betray our oath and we cannot let jian's group have their way if they can't play nice. So feel free to plug at it and get them to stop being mean to su and li. But don't go saying that this is the great betrayal and that we are stabbing jian in the back via the act of not stabbing su and li in the back
Having considered it, this may also be my hill. It will definitely be my hill next week. @CircleTheSkies made a pretty compelling argument that cultivators all hide resources from each other and that this wouldn't necessarily blow up in our faces as badly as I thought it would. There's a good case to be made that our show of generosity to Su Ling and Li Suyin, as a fraction of our total wealth, really is up there when it comes to generosity and we shouldn't expect that others will do the same for us or that this is a necessary and expected 'show of good faith'. Just like how Han Jian would regard his own wealth as not a 'what's yours is mine' situation, and Bai Meizhen made sure that she didn't try to keep our jade token, he wouldn't expect us to do the same for the vent, no matter how much he helped us. While we do have an obligation towards him, it's not expected to be in the form of a cultivation reward so huge that even Bai Meizhen was impressed by it. Like, I'm pretty sure it's worth upwards a hundred red stones in resources per turn and while we owe him big, I'm pretty sure a thing like this will actually put him and Fan, Fang and Gu in our debt. Like, embarrassingly in our debt.
That said, I'd rather have the two groups merge already. Su Ling has proven to be superior to even Bai Meizhen when it comes to sniffing out interesting locations. Li Suyin literally has a family mystery box art that sounds mad interesting, and the overall vote is coherent and gives a lot of weight to social issues that I didn't actually expect people to try solving so quickly. Having all our friends become really swole means that we can probably, in a pinch, compete with the monster-class students without necessarily having a fellow monster-class student by our side and it may also allow us to pool our Sect points to purchase weekly instruction, depending on who believes it to be useful. Even if Bai, Xu and Su are unlikely to do so, I think Han, Fan, Fang, and Li would all be willing to do something like that, with Xu getting dragged right back in so she can keep an eye on Han (and us, since we are girls and hence competition). Six people is five sect points a week for a tutorial, and we should probably try all mystery box options as they seem to very reliably lead to becoming swole.
And the thing is, even if you consider them to be competition to get into the Inner Sect... the Inner Sect will also be super competitive. The entire premise of Xianxia is built on competition. We picked a support style. Ideally, all our friends get into the Inner Sect and we have a from the get-go a super well-rounded network of support instead of being, once more, pretty much on our own with Bai Meizhen at our side.
In conclusion, I'm, gah, willing to wait another week to set up the mother thing, but no longer of the opinion that Han Jian's relationship with us will dramatically explode due to the argent vent. However, I still think that we need to invest in the relationship instead of letting it expire because his group has an honest chance of making it into the Inner Sect and if we can get them there, we have a huge leg-up on, say, Ji Rong who's going to be a big fish in a big pond instead of a school of big fish in a big pond.

This would be ideal, yes. Li Suyin in particular is very likely to be able to get in via the production branch, though I'm glad she is also understanding that even then she needs to still be strong.
However, there are 8 slots. Han Jian, Fan Yu, Han Fang, Gu Xiulan and Su Ling are all going to compete for those spots. If everyone was around the same level, it would be fine... but none of those have any chance to catch up to where Bai Meizhen, Cai Renxiang, Sun Liling and Ji Rong will be at the end of the year.
This means that they will be 5 competing for 3 slots. Them having the argent vent greatly increase their chance to catch up to Kang Zihao and to make sure Huang Da doesn't catch up to them, but it causes the huge issue that the vent is Su Ling's and Han Jian will not want her to get into the last 3 available spot. Fan Yu, Gu Xiulan and Han Fang have all shown dislike for Su Ling already even discounting the competition. Han Jian... will choose his real allies there unless things truly change. I just don't see any way this could end well at this point.
Basically, I'm thinking it's very unlikely sharing the vent is not going to betray Su Ling's future.

Mom can wait for next week and now Social Animal has the Meizhen option.
Han Jian is a time bomb waiting to go off, as much as I want the mum option this is too important to risk putting off. Just one more week for the letter to her mother or we could try writing it as a canon omake.
We aren't betraying the oath! How long will it take to get that through your head? We are ASKING our friends about if they're willing to let Han Jian's group in on it and then going ahead if they say yes.
And no not sharing the family arts isn't the same especially when their families would take a massive exception to that, hell Li Suyin and Su Ling didn't share either so they're just as guilty.
............she can get in next year hell does she even want to? It's her decision to make on whether to share the vent not ours so if she's willing to accept that risk I don't see why we shouldn't respect her decision.
