[X] UFS Everest, named for mountains.

This also allows for easier inclusion of non-Earth/Sol system related names, by including Vulcan/Andorian/Tellarite/etc., mountains

[X] UFS Everest, named for mountains.

[X] UFS Olympus Mons, named for mountains on planets other than Earth.

[X] UFS Maat Mons, named for the second highest mountain on Venus.

[X] UFS Copernicus, named for astronomers and astrophysicists.
[X] UFS Everest, named for mountains.
[X] UFS Sagarmāthā

Very happy with the results on this. Yes it's stupid expensive but it can do everything and do it so well that it is more effective than multiple ships while costing not as much as those ships together. Sometimes you need hulls and for that we have the Cygnus, but this is a great explorer in the tradition of on screen starfleet ships and is exactly the kind of warship with a day job that you want on your borders.

I do want to do a small refit of the Cygnus for the thrusters and torpedos. I am not sure if that would even need a new diagram, or just one vote and a new entry in Completed Designs (Stats).

I really like the mountain name theme, but I also said this at one point:
I like the robot based naming idea, but I also want a UES Copernicus once they run out of robots.

Because too many Sol mountains are named after people, so we would be naming it after them if we start with Everest.

hot damm thats cunky boy. well at least it does everything we want it too do within the price they wanted it so, well done us.

Also, let's be real. There is a reason Starfleet is building 5 of these bad boys basically no matter the cost and it's because Earth was bombarded by Romulans trying to wipe out the human race within living memory. 5 is a good number. 3 out in space doing stuff, 1 in the yard undergoing maintenance, and 1 parked over Earth to ensure nobody gets a chance to make another swing like the Romulans. Then you rotate. Each year a different ship comes back and you roll the just maintained ship out into guard duty and send the guard ship off to go explore for 3 years.

If war happens 2 of them are already home with 1 ready to go instantly and the other ready after a short window for them to button it up and send it out to kick ass with it's sister ship. The other 3 get a message to rush home at maximum cruise.

@Sayle Given United Earth is the entirety of the earth, and a good part of the population probably won't speak English as a first language (especially in the region it's resident), would it be possible for the name Everest to changed to Sagarmāthā or one of the other native names for the mountain?

You know this will probably be the first 'Starfleet' ship that Klingons meet, wonder how it looks in their view? Also I'm just betting the Romulan spies keeping an eye on Starfleets shipbuilding program start breaking out the brown pants every time we start designing an Explorer, cause ships like this cause trauma to them

We've just guaranteed that the Copernicus vessels are gonna be the most highly sought out assignment in the entire fleet in the immediate future. Especially the first vessel.

... Hahaha

Hey guys?

Yolodyne didn't fuck it up.

Our Warp Rating is exactly what was promised. Warp 5 Cruise, Warp 7 Sprint.

This actually means that this is--on average--one of the fastest ships in Starfleet despite its terrifying mass. A Cygnus might have slightly higher cruising velocity, but when it comes to "Every second counts, GTFO over there yesterday" sprints, the Copernicus reigns supreme over all of our spaceframes.

We gambled hard with the stuff we pushed for, but it paid off in spades. Copernicus is expensive as hell, but is so good that we're going to get a bunch of them regardless.

Going by the traditional ratio if we wanted 3 out in space doing stuff we'd need another 3 transiting and 3 more in the dock. Or 9 ships. Surging allows you to go 2:1 at least temporarily so you'd be able to have 4-5 out doing stuff during emergencies, again with 9 ships total.

We have already run into the Klingons but yeah these are going to raise their expectations.

And that is an explorer- those science and engineering abilities will be amazing for doing exploration and a limited run is fine as we can have other ships for poking at stuff inside the borders

Klingons nothing. Think about what the rest of the United Systems thinks.

Andorian 1- Hey, remember the humans? You know how they rolled into the war with the Romulans by tossing a ship so beefy that it basically face tanked the Romulan fleet despite not having shields?

Andorian 2 - Yeah? Definitely made up for being technologically behind through enthusiasm.

Andorian 1 - They are no longer technologically behind. Take a look a their new "explorer".

Andorian 2 - Mother of god. I am reminded why we joined the alliance.

As long as the ship proves itself (which I think it will in spades), I think we'll get to that point.

right now humans are going to have a rep for building utterly absurd behemoth battleships who can anchor entire fleets. I suspect as time goes on that will evolve into a reputation for building utterly absurd behemoth battleships and insisting that they are for peaceful exploration.
