No, the deflector still faces forward. It's just mounted aft.
Oh, I was hoping that mounting the deflector facing backwards would allow all the engine functions to be located in the same area while also freeing extra space in the forward section for Weapons.
Also, As far as I can tell our current deflectors only really work during warp travel so it doesn't do that much while at impulse?

[X] Forward Deflector (Industry 2 -> 24) [2 Torpedo Tubes] [1 Cannon + 3 Optional]

You guys voted for cheap, no take-backsies.

[X] Forward Deflector (Industry 2 -> 24) [2 Torpedo Tubes] [1 Cannon + 3 Optional]

Cheap, and good enough. Paying 6 Industry for the privilege of being able to pay even more for extra guns is not that great on this design paradigm.

This plus the biggest zippiest impulse engines we can manage.

This option, with the extra cannons, puts us at least on par with the Stingray in terms of firepower and even edges it out by a cannon. For something that's likely meant to replace it on the front lines, that's pretty decent.

The Stingray had 3 cannons and 2 torps that could all fire forward, so by picking the cheaper option It would have at most one extra cannon and the only reason this thing would be more capable is the better tech.
Well, the Stingray has two forward firing cannons and one aft firing. This is 4 forward firing with overlapping fields of fire, as well as being more modern weapons.

I think it's possible one might be aft firing.

But even so they'd be the new pulsed phase cannons which is an improvement either way.

All torpedo tubes fire forwards on this build, so there is that to take into account. But yeah, the difference in total armament is small for a noticeable greater amount of hulls.
I mean, is that really a flaw when the thing is an Arrowhead hull to begin with, i.e. the Make Things Converge Fire Forward hull? proper, balanced hull types are different shapes and, frankly, significantly more expensive than the Antifascist Torpgun Triangle that a 4 gun/2 protorp forward deflector build is (i.e. the low-end cost of 30 industry)

compared to the stingray, the ATT is significantly better as a fighting ship - modern guns, state of the art torpedos, all converging into a single attack arc where it can do the star trek equivalent of boom and zoom runs (because if this thing doesn't have as many impulse thrusters as the hull can fit I'll eat someone else's hat - already ate mine)
