Korolev is a great choice too, I think I prefer Gagarin over him, but if it ended up being the Korolev-Class I would be happy with that too.

ANYTHING but the NX. 🤢
Thinking about it Gagarin is probably better since you could use names from both sides of the space race, like also having Collins and Armstong classes.

I'd rather not name something the Von Braun class.

Wait, the ship's class was literally the "NX"? I thought it was just the registry number for experimental Starfleet ships, with them changing to NCC after the initial testing is completed.

It was the NX Project, I think what probably happened is that the name NX was so publicized that they couldn't really change it, even though it was just meant to be a generic designation rather than a class name.

Pretty much everyone on Earth already knew it as the NX before they ever reached the point of naming the ship class.

Haha yeah probably not a great choice.

Oh yeah, as far as I've looked into it when I just got corrected last page, the class is literally 'NX-Class'.

Also, what about naming it after the biggest mountains in the solar system. So we could have the Olympus Mons-Class, the Everest-Class (largest above water mountain on Earth), a Mauna Kea-Class (the actual largest mountain on Earth) etc.

I think the idea was to have two-letter designations for Starfleet ship types (all starting with N for Navy) and single-letter designations for civilian/commercial designs.

Well if that was the case then we have already broken this "rule" inside the quest lol. We have the Stingray-Class, not the NS(tingray)-Class, or the NStingray-Class. Of course, it could have been pulling from Royal Navy tradition of assigning a class a letter and using names that start with it. EX: The Renown-Class had the Renown (shocker), and the Repulse. Or the Revenge-Class had the Revenge, Resolution, Royal Oak, Royal Sovereign, and the Ramillies.

Maybe we could dissolve Yoyodyne by accuse them of being a saboteur If the prototype failled hard enough.

The Stingray is designated "NY-01," which I think means it's a "'something' gun ship" if the wikipedia page on hull classifications is accurate.

Maybe "gun ship (nuclear-powered)?"
Can't find much that seems to fit NY, I think it would make more sense for Star fleet to come up with it's own, the N is Navy, marking it as a Military ship, and the Y is for Patrol/gunships. The X can be Exploration.

Our last choice was more industrial-ish, but I'd like better engines for the Enterprise.

Adding to the confusion, NX was the prefix used for Excelsior prior to her being declared fully operational. Once she formally entered service, she went from NX-2000 to NCC-2000. As Archer's Enterprise was also an experimental design, presumably the show producers lifted the designation. Throw in some miscommunication about why the designation was used and, well...

To be fair, these are the minor things that would get missed in a real life multi-stellar state, and by the time someone noticed, it had already been in the public consciousness for too long maybe? But NX is still one of the worst class names out there, even if it was meant to be something else.
