By narrative law if they show up, it'll be as a serious threat in one way or another. Never leave live enemies behind you...by enslaving these guys we both assure the survival of at least some of them, and make them our enemies. Not good policy.

Also, like....if they escape and get back to England we're literally giving Gabriel a supporting cast for his revenge arc.

[X] 10oz per man
[X] Take them as Thralls
[X] ...What happened to Farbjorn and Serge Gagnon?
[X] Thoroughly loot the sea-fort

You want to give Gabriel a better chance of killing Stienarr?
hey, he needs to get to the Halding Valley! And can't really rest alone when the forest is full with monsters and they wander around at night....
Well, chances are King Alfred is going to kill them, or at the very least take away their land which will deprive of them power, so they'd probably less of a threat if we left them to him.
Yep.
if we take them? Either they will become mortals when Alfred takes their lands or they keep the power and we can use them to move have things, like big stones or something.
If we drop them at Alfred, its either the Axe for them for the betrayal or getting fined so much they are no Thanes anymore.... unless someone else takes them in.
But with the news of this raid going wide due to Alfred making it a lesson for tax evaders.... not much chance for that.

Edit: Also, taking them then letting them go back to England after... idk, but 3 years, sounds better than death for betraying the king.

If Fister wants to go that far and do a whole Thanes Revenge Arc, then I think that would be pretty compelling and cool? But honestly I suspect it will be something that gets wrapped up as a throwaway in subsequent updates, unless we choose to take them home or something.

We can also explain to them the alternative was Alfred's justice, or we're so inclined, we could ransom them to a monastery in exchange for a promise to take holy orders.

I'd also like if we didn't do the quest argument thing where any option we dislike is DOOOOOM. It gets old.

Limiting the number of people who want to kill us is relevant. We're never gonna get that number to zero, but we don't need to carelessly increase it for relatively minimal gains either.

That's an entirely separate option from taking them as thralls and I'd potentially be on board.

Our choices have consequences. We need to actually think about those not just say 'Oh, everything will be fine.' In any individual case, it's possible things will be fine, but if we keep making choices with potentially bad long term consequences without considering them then eventually those consequences will catch up with us.

We've been told repeatedly by our QM that this is a Quest where Halla has basically zero plot armor at this point, and hubris is probably our biggest problem. Those repeated warnings do not incline me to ignore risks or treat them lightly. We can and should take risks if we have a good enough reason to, but I find none of the reasons to take this one compelling.

@Imperial Fister, could we offer the Thanes their choice of Alfred's justice, or thralldom?

That might be better, and neatly deals with any concerns people have.

On the other hand, I'd very likely be down for this if it's an option, yeah.

If we take them as thralls we could go into the danelaw and sacrifice them to the gods to rejuvenate the land.
Would get rid of the loose ends and give the dying lands a push towards living, even if only temporary.

It's only dying to Halla's perspective because she's moving from a paradigm where Power Comes From the Earth to Power Comes From the Heavens.

If she had a better grasp on how the Christian paradigm worked, she probably would have just noticed the transition. Her knowledge is mostly academic at best though, rather than a gut feeling.

Or its dying to Halla because its from an incompatible system.
Like Norse lands are dead to Gabriel, because they have no christian influences.

Belief/Culture shape cultivation systems shape reality.
