Thinking on it, what do people think about putting the coin on windherding, since it has two spellcasting rolls that we know can be affected, while the composition of the other actions is less known? Apparitions would only really significantly matter if we intend to bind it right away, since I'm not too worried about our capabilities in fighting it or finding it, and liminal realm only had the one visible roll.
The worst thing that can happen on the liminal realms action is that we miscast and a demon eats us.
The worst thing that can happen on the windherding action is that we miscast and a demon eats us.
The worst thing that can happen on the apparition action is, you guessed it, we miscast and a demon eats us.
Magic do be crazy like that.
We should not look at the coin as disaster mitigation, but more "where would it be most useful for Ranald to intervene and help us out with exactly two (2) luck themed divine miracles".
For Liminal Realms we're mitigating the danger with a good pair of running shoes (which is SOP for magical research like this) in an area where demons will struggle to manifest. Not ideal, but the last time we messed it up we only got a moderate chaos manifestation and no immediate harm was done. Honestly, I don't blame people wanting divine backup on this one, even if I'm personally very confident that we'll be fine.
With windherding, we're in a controlled environment with an equally skilled wizard helping us. The last time we messed it up, we got a very minor miscast that did practically nothing. This is probably the action we need Ranald's help with the least.
With apparitions, we're hunting a monster that literally eats wizards. And yes, we have a golden punch wizard with us. But divine backup would probably be more useful here for a) trying to find them and b) trying to avoid being ambushed by them.
