I hope it will be mechanically useful but I want to write it regardless because it's romantic
Edit: specifically a poem about the Bearbreaking

I'll give it 30 more minutes before I call the vote for Abjorn eating the heart

Also, almost done with the training stuff

Honestly, giving him Weird Shadow Magic on top of LEVERAGE memes will make for an interesting shtick.

So for our book, we'll probably want to make it fireproof, waterproof, and in general extremely durable. For fireproofing we could use our hearthroot to source our materials. For waterproofing we got our sealwood tree so if we make paper out of it should naturally waterproof. At least I think so. What else do we need to make the book? Bug proofing too. And maybe like a self repair function.

Almost done with the update. I'm feeling really out of it today so I elected to do the Seeress' bit after the spar.

Summer 9/Turn 1
(You have cultivated 22 Odr)
[X] Plan Saying Goodbye To Aki And Hello To Sagaseeker
-[X] Yes, you will try for a baby
--[X] Starting immediately _after_ our spar with Abjorn
-[X] [Social] (Yule) It's Yule! What would you like to do for it?/(Personal) Spend time with...
--[X] Aki
--[X] Basically use Yule as his going away party (among other things)
--[X] Gift him the new Drinking Horn and explain that it should help Hamr (with the note that we just started using a pot with a similar effect and thought he might want something similar as well)
--[X] Say goodbye to him before he goes. Tell him we'll see him soon as we're headed to Vestfold in the next couple of years, and he's welcome to come back with us then if things aren't any better there.
--[X] Make sure to do a fair bit of the cooking and assign Tenderize Roast while doing so
-[X] Spar with Abjorn
--[X] Specifically not wearing our armor in the interests of fairness.
-[X] (Empty Sack) ...Maybe you should try stuffing that empty sack full of straw?
-[X] (Crafting) Try to make something
--[X] Reforge Sagaseeker (+15 successes from Tools/Workshop)
--[X] Add runes saying "My edge never dulls or breaks when seeking honour." to the blade in addition to keeping the existing runes (one of the two sequences on each side of the blade) (1 Reward Dice from Skippy)
--[X] Add runes saying "I strike as Sky-Flame, none but the messengers of Yggr shall slow me." to a Socket Stone, which we add on to Sagaseeker as part of this process.
--[X] Decorating it appropriately to be properly Realized in a mix of silver and gold (3 oz. each)
--[X] Adding cat or lynx bone ash to the crafting, as that seems most appropriate (note: we're trying to avoid killing a domestic cat for this, which should be doable)
--[X] Switch Forgefire Slots to Dice before starting and back afterwards, likewsie swap out Beaconlight for Heat Hold before starting and back afterwards if using it proves unnecessary.
--[X] Spending ****9 Odr**** on the crafting**,** and burning Frami (for +1 Success) and Virthing and Saemd (for +3 successes each, +7 total) to enhance the crafting process
-[X] (Exploration) Go on a walk through...
--[X] The Hading!
--[X] Look for any interesting herbs we can find
---[X] (Optional) Send your fylgja in your place (Does not cost an action)

-[X] (Seeress) Learn seidr with the Seeress (Only available during Summer)
--[X] Ask about spirits and how they work, particularly spirits of the land like the nisse, and how they interact with seidr and odr
--[X] Bring Aki along and introduce him to Kolla (or renew their acquaintance, I suppose)
--[X] Get a list of additional protective spells from seidr to train on our own, with a focus on protecting against other seidr and otherworldly stuff

-[X] (Research)
--[X] Invest up to **18 Odr** into our Hearthroot, one point at a time, potentially stopping if we feel like a breakpoint has happened
--[X] Plan out our building layout for our farm 1d6
---[X] A list of what buildings our expertise indicates we will need and whether building them is one project or one project per building would be useful
---[X] Stoking all three Aspects normally on this (for a total of +3 successes) if there is a roll
--[X] Try and improve the layout, organization, and general quality of our farm plots 1d6
---[X] Stoke all three Aspects normally to help with this for a total of +3 Successes
--[X] Scout out the Underhouse 1d6
--[X] Try connecting with tricks at range with a thread of orthstirr, but to guide them rather than pull them towards us, see what that can achieve 1d6
--[X] Try and store Stoker Tricks in a Fast and see if that works and how 1d6
--[X] Start to work on planning out our book project 1d6
-[X] (Drifa) Teach Drifa some of your tricks
--[X] Make sure she knows about Stoker State and Aspect Healing 1d6

--[X] Talk to Steinarr about what other Martial Styles he's aware of, as that's useful information to have. Relatedly, he was taught by Bram Ironjaw, why wasn't he able to pass on a Martial Style to Steinarr? What Martial Style does a guy like that even use? Maybe chat about him Ironjaw a bit more if we can get him talking.

Your heart hammers like Thor thunders as you prepare to move the tafl piece. Abjorn, the big lug, sits with a blank, unreadable face — the bastard's got your king on the ropes!

While you ultimately lose that match, you still gain some valuable insights.

Hearthroot Infusing
As the ninth mote of odr falls to rest in the Hearthroot, the leaves, stems, berries, all of it glows with red light.

Growth surges as it grows to the final stage of its life. As the light fades, you're left with more berries, more fronds, and a single seed resting in the center of the bush.

soulscape farm building layout
As you wander about your soulscape, you note the various places buildings could sit. All in all, you don't think you'll need more than a farmhouse — which would look rather nice if you build it into the hillside, you reckon.

soulscape farm plot layout
Eyeing the farm plots after growing the hearthroot, you have something of an idea. What if you were to water the farm plots with odr?

Sure, they get watered when you open the Gate, but that's simple sustainment. What if you were to give them more?

...Could be something to try!

Underhouse scouting
After a couple hours spent wandering your cultivation site, you come to the conclusion that this was pointless, as the Underhouse is, you know, underground, which you don't have access to yet.

Threads of orthstirr at range
As you extend your willpower in a thread of lengthened might, you find yourself being able to guide the trick. A Kindle Spinner follows the directions of your invisible will, bouncing about the place like some kind of demented rabbit.

While it wasn't what you were looking for, it does provide you with some ideas.

Stoker State tricks in a Fast
While you can put Stoker State tricks in a Fast, it seems you can't mess around with them once they are in it. So, you can't add more of your heart's power if it is in a Fast.

You thought about trying it with the Flame-Tending Blade, but decide against it. After all, losing out on an entire Aspect seems like a high price to you!

Talking to Steinarr about Martial Styles + fishing for Ironjaw information (Silver-Tongue: 6x1, 5x2, 4x1, 3x2, 2x2, 1x2) 5 Successes
The year, by the reckoning of the followers of Christ, is 8978 AD and you, Halla Skyfire, have just turned twenty. You stand across to Steinarr, after a round of light sparring, with a question on your mind.

"So, what other Martial Styles do you know?"

"What other Martial Styles do I know?" Steinarr repeats back to you as he quirks his head to the side. "Well, that's a difficult to question to answer. I've been all over the world and seen many things, so much so that a lot of the information gets cluttered," he taps the side of his head. "You'll have to be a bit more specific than that."

You frown as you adjust your post-spar messy hair. "Well, you were taught by Ironjaw, right? Why didn't you learn his Martial Styles and, speaking of that, what kind of Martial Styles would a man like that even use?"

Steinarr laughs as he sighs, eyes looking off to the distance — towards Bornholm. "Bram... is a man I don't agree with on a lot of things. He was instrumental in getting us off Gotland, but his personality and mine just don't mesh well together. He's the greatest wrestler alive, as far as I'm aware, but I don't particularly like wrestling all that much." He shrugs, "It's just not for me. His other Martial Styles rely on his hugareida or had requirements I didn't fit, like with Blaze of Glory."

"Blaze of Glory?"

"The signature Martial Style of the men of the Hammershus, Ironjaw's Warband. It..." He frowns, searching for the right word, "I could've learned it, if I wanted to, but I refused. It is a Style that encourages the practitioner to throw themselves into the frenzy in search of ever-greater deaths. That's not something I was looking for, even as stupid as I was at the time."

"Stupid?" There's a story there, you can feel it. "How were you stupid?"

"Oh Gods dammit..." He winces and slumps over. Eventually, he sighs and gets on with it, "Alright, look, I was young, I was dumb, and I had been raised on stories of my father's endless, uh, 'escapades'. It ended up okay, as I married Asveig because of it, but I still shouldn't have slept with her."

Unfortunately for you, after warming himself up, he proceeds to tell you of how he felt bad about sleeping with Asveig, so he went to her father and told him of what happened. This, as it turns out, was a mistake as he was forced to negotiate a marriage while fighting off both her furious father and her three brothers at the same time.

Apparently, that was also the closest he's ever come to dying.

sparring with abjorn
Abjorn seems to blend into the shadows cast by the early evening sun. He's not making any real effort to hide, it's just a side-effect of eating the Shadow Bear's heart. If he puts a little muscle into it, he can shroud himself in shadows in all kinds of different ways.

'Silhouette', that's what the hugareida he gained from it is called.

'The effect will diminish greatly if it's passed to any of your children. Or rather, given how you're feeling right now, when.'

You roll your eyes at Blackhand's laughter, steadily ignoring both him and how the shadows add such handsome depth to Abjorn's already perf- You scowl, forcing yourself back on track.

After all, you'll be sparring with him soon enough!

And after that...

Your face burns red.

(Hugr (Tactics): 6x4, 5x2, 4x1, 3x2, 1x4)11+5=16 Successes

Despite the shadows wrapping about his body, you're still able to read Abjorn fairly well. Neither of you are wearing armor — which has nothing to do with your plans after this fore- a-after the fight! Ha, ha.... ha...

Um, anyways.

Abjorn's changed into his older, rougher clothes — so you don't have to worry about hurting his feelings if you damage them. He's currently wielding the ancestral sword he got from his grandfather's barrow in place of Avow — steel isn't exactly very spar-friendly.

The early-evening sun casts a lot of long shadows around, giving Abjorn ample ammunition for his new hugareida. This was a decision you actually tabled, as a spar is a good way to see what he can do.

Abjorn will be gentle with you, far gentler than he should be given that this is a spar. You'll have to beat that instinct out of him! He's planning on taking things slow.

Abjorn is at his most dangerous if he gets his hands on you. One of the best wrestlers of your generation, that's what Torsten called him before he left — before promptly folding him during a wrestling match, that is.

AN: Alrighty, here we go.

No moratorium. I'm gonna go eat some food.

Nice, he did get a Shadow Hugareida.

That should be fun!

Aside from that, looks like we've got a path to improving our Fields, at least a little bit, and the Hearthroot is done! And we got a seed! Time to do some Further Cultivation

Looks like Hearthroot only requires 18 Odr total to max out though, which is eminently affordable.

It said that we finished at the 9th drop? For a total of 18?

Still, it's good to know that Magical Produce doesn't cost a fortune in Odr. Interestingly enough, I notice the stems glowed as well. Though I don't know if that was just flavor for the Seed germinating.

Hmm, I think growing plants in our soulscapes takes odr to progress their stages while growing plants outside of the soulscape naturally progresses them.

LMAO Steinarr. Just that whole story, lol.

The real question is, do the Seeds respawn once a year too?

Because I get the feeling that we want to reach a certain number of Hearthroot Bushes in order to get best effect, and this effectively means we can double our number every year.

Presumably, we can ferment the Hearthberries too to concentrate their effects, and the more we have, the better.

EDIT: Stoker State training was extremely blessed too. 20 successes on 15 dice

Do we want to spend 18 odr on the sealwood tree? It'll be useful for water proofing our book among other reasons. Having sealwood means we can use it for crafting or carving something.
