Another reason to get a Glima trick or two (or at least a rank up), IIRC the raid trials have a wrestling portion. If we have to repeat those every time we go on a raid, it'd be rather embarrassing to lose that particular portion. We've also had some challenges with wrestling in the past.

The raid trials are a job interview so someone with a ship will take you on their crew. We have a ship, making us the one to pick people from the raid trials rather than one of the people getting picked. We are an employer, not an employee and need not interview.
We're also, like, verging on an order of magnitude better than most people in the trials, so I wouldn't worry about it even were that not the case. Challenges are more of an issue, certainly, and we should pick a couple more Glima Tricks up to the Rough level or so, but the trials are not really a factor in that.
"It happens, but moving on," he shrugs before turning towards his fylgja. "As you can see, this is a dog — a Craghund, to be specific. When you reach a certain point, your fylgja shifts from a more mundane creature to one of myth and legend, like mine here. When this happens, you gain a broad array of abilities relating to that creature. For example, I can live off a rock-only diet if I had to, I can use my spit as an adhesive, and I can grow rock spikes in my hair — if I were to eat a lot of rocks first, that is."
Hm.... ah.
Perhaps rank 7 is not so much myth and legend as blessed/aspected? kinda like the shadow bear was.? then the rank 10 evolution makes it into a real supernatural thing? with the bonus abilities given to the Norseman?

We do not know how to do the felag bond yet, afaik. (Or if we do it is some Jarl only thing)
@Imperial Fister
If we have a boat, does that mean we could start our own group at the rad trials?
Do we have to redo the trials, or could Folkmarr take us into his group if he thinks we are good enough?
If we join a felag, can we use our own ship(s) so the felag leader can have more raiders?
I'm pretty sure the felag bond is just a manifestation of an oath/contract. Like, we shouldn't need anything special to do that any more than we did to accept people's oaths of service. The latter is much more Jarl adjacent (and progresses us towards becoming a Jarl) and required nothing special.
Which means we can definitely start our own group. I dunno if we're prestigious enough to get the cream of the crop (well, beyond our actual friends and family), but we should be able to get some people together.

The two are separate. Folkmarr gave us Orthstirr as an enticement to join his Felag/reward for joining, but that wasn't a necessary step in the process of joining. We can't do the 'give people Orthstirr' thing, which will potentially allow Folkmarr or others who can do that to steal away promising recruits, but we can still recruit them with monetary incentives or other things like that.
Like, the word 'felag' literally just means a joint financial venture...you don't need to be a jarl or have a special trick for that.

[X] Plan Hugs Are For Afterwards
-[X] Like with Gabriel reassign a Shapeshifting Slot from Fasts to High-Twitch Muscles and one more Frenzy to Pockets, leaving us with only our 3Fold Inertia-Arresting Throw in terms of Tricks stored in our Fast. Also reassign another shapeshifting slot from Dense Muscles to yet more High-Twitch Reflexes. Reassign two Capacity from Beaconlight and Explosive Reactive Armor to Unending Time In The Sun and Fireside Barrage.
-[X] Invest 2 Orthstirr in Hugr, 1 in Composure, 4 in Tactics, 3 in Scouting (-11 Orthstirr)
-[X] 52d6 Attack (52d6 tricks)
-[X] 42d6 Defense (42d6 tricks)
-[X] 0d6 Intercept
-[X] Put up a 50d6+9 (w/Hugareida) Orthstirr Enhanced x11 Atgeir Bodyguard (-25 Orthstirr).
-[X] Activate Slipstream (-16 Orthstirr) and Heated Shroud (-5 Orthstirr) and take to the air with Ember-Wing Cloak and stay there (-6 Orthstirr, all subsequent actions include the +1d6 from Skyfire).
-[X] Immediately release one 30d6+5 (w/Hugareida) Orthstirr Enhancedx9 Fireside Barrage (-16 Orthstirr), followed by two 30d6+5 (w/Hugareida) Orthstirr-Enhancedx9 Kindle Spinners (-11 Orthstirr each) in Abjorn's direction, trying to probe his defenses and take him down if possible. If he manages to close with us, use a 40d6+5 Sharpenedx19 Lightning-Enhanced Skewer-Flick attack w/Puncture to gain some distance (-33 Orthstirr).
-[X] By default use Atgeir Bodyguard to defend against everything. For the first melee attack that gets through, use Contested Movement and all our Stoked Dice to defend (-3 Orthstirr, 24d6+5 defense) and counterattack with a Sharpenedx1 Lightning-Enhanced Skewer-Flick attack w/Puncture (-15) and abort to Sidestep (-2 Orthstirr) if that does not work as a defense.
-[X] In response to anything after that Contested Movement (or any ranged attack) once Atgeir Bodyguard is broken, use Halting Vortex (-4 Orthstirr), and if something gets through that use up to four 50d6+9 Reinforcedx48 Sway defenses (-50 Orthstirr each).
-[X] Tactics – So, we want to avoid close combat at all costs here to avoid being grappled. Basically we activate our available buffs and take to the air here and try and take Abjorn down with ranged attacks, with one big melee attack ready to use to hopefully gain some distance if necessary, while using a combination of a very large static defense and Perfect Defenses to avoid getting hit.

With Slipstream adding itself to your already blistering speed, you race into the skies as Abjorn doesn't. He's aware of you, sure, but he's not actively moving to intercept or react to your flight. He's just standing there, menacingly.
You squint, what's he playing at here?
Snapping your hand to the side and conjuring forth a palmful of flickering flames, you decide to see just what that game is. Pointing your hand at Abjorn after a heartbeat of preparation, you unleash the Fireside Barrage in all its glory.
A storm of flickering campfires streak across the battlefield like an army making camp. As the trick travels further, the fire spreads out in an ever-greater arc of power. It isn't all that powerful, but it should be more than enough to bait out his defenses. (lmao)
As the fire races ever-closer, Abjorn takes a single step forward. Fireside Barrage engulfs and hides your husband from your sight. Cutting the trick off for a moment, you add a pair of Kindle Spinners to the mix before picking up the stream of flames once more. (lol even)
But as the fires fade and the all-choking smoke clears, your jaw drops as Abjorn—now roughly two dozen steps closer—merely brushes off a scrap of cloth-turned-charcoal from his shoulders. The Kindle Spinners did nothing and the Fireside Barrage did even less. The licks of flame stripped him to his underclothes, but failed to so much as singe the hairs on his chest or head.
A staccato of sharp pops echo across the woodland clearing as Abjorn cracks his neck and pops his knuckles.
A beat passes as you hasten to close your sagging mouth. A trickle of drool wets your chin as you struggle to do even that, but you manage it eventually. Coughing, you fix your husband with a calculating eye. If Abjorn is resistant to your ranged moves, why not try a melee trick?
Kicking off the air, the wind whips your hair into a frenzy as you throw yourself into a lightning-wrapped lunge. Lightning-mixed-with-fire forms an owl's outspread wings in your wake as you streak across the cloud-heavy sky.
Abjorn tightens his jaw as his sword and shield clatter against the grassy, snow-speckled ground. He bends at the knees as he readies his now-empty hands. His fingers curl and splay as he prepares to receive your charge. (Abjorn's Hamr+Wrestling: 163 vs Halla's Hamr+Wrestling: 49+5=54, Abjorn Wins!)
It's as if time was moving in slow motion as Abjorn sways to the side moments before Sagaseeker made contact. His left arm snaps out as his hand rotates,. His fingers wrap around your weapon and gently apply pressure as his other hand gingerly grabs you by your jaw—carefully avoiding your throat in the process.
Any other man who had their foe in a position like this would doubtlessly win the fight.
Abjorn, though?
Why, he brings you in close to deliver a loving kiss to your lips.
Your eyes soften as your heart skips a beat, your fingers loosening in the process. It's only as you find yourself weaponless and thrown once more into the sky that you realize you've been duped.
Abjorn—the bastard!—grins as he plants Sagaseeker head-first into the ground. His rust-red orthstirr coats it as it sinks a foot deeper into the earth.
You're still a little frazzled by Abjorn's bit of trickery, so your read on him isn't as in-depth as it normally is.
He's either got extremely adept damage resistance or some kind of fire-immunity to have rebuked all your attacks like that. Maybe it only works on ranged attacks? You're not sure.
No matter the cause, he's proven to be a cunning adversary all the same. Depriving you of your main weapon and stunning you in a single move. You'll have to be careful around him!
However, now that he's removed Sagaseeker from your grasp, both your hands are free to bombard him with fire and other ranged attacks! What's he gonna do down there on the ground? Blow kisses at you?
Abjorn is undamaged and you are trying your best to avoid ogling his muscles—even though you fail, it's the thought that counts! Right?
He seems to be favoring a reactionary style of fighting, preferring to do gently redirects than any serious damage. He had you in his grasp, he could've done any number of things, but he didn't. Why is it that almost all the powerful fighters in your life refuse to take you seriously in spars?! It's not fair, dammit!
Endurance: (13/13) | Frenzy: (5/5) (+5 to all Combat Rolls)
Orthstirr: (432/604) | Odr: (29)
( ) Frami: 202 | ( ) Virthing: 201 | ( ) Saemd: 201
Shapeshifting is granting you (+1 Ranged Damage and +3 Attack-Speed)
Your combat pool is 85d6 and you have 15d6 Stoked Dice
Atgeir Bodyguard is still active
What do you do?

AN: My apologies for going against the plan slightly, I just couldn't resist. I had a whole lot of fun writing this one
No moratorium. I reckon we can do another update today, so it'll be a short vote (if it works out that way, of course)
He shouldn't be able to have more than 4 from shapeshifting (assuming Hamr 9), which is not enough to shrug off our 6 damage Kindle Spinners. I suspect he may be combo-ing it with an anti-fire Trick from Silhouette (very plausible), or his previously shown 'become dense' option from Leverage, which might provide additional DR in the same way Slipstream does additional speed. Or, very plausibly, both of those things.
His defensive wrestling option also bodes very well for our kids ability to combo Stoker State with a counterattack option that ignores standard rolls, which is good in the long term.
For our upcoming tactics...we probably want to retrieve Sagaseeker, though it's not a huge deal, and we definitely also want to hit him with Sparkbomb at this point. Sure, it's slow, but he's not dodging and I doubt he can shrug off 10-12 damage as easily as he shrugged off 6.
So, lets try a 2fold Sparkbomb, after release, ready our Orthstirr thread method and when Abjorn evades the first, use the Orthstirr thread to have it boomerang into his back?
Worst case, 2 Sparkbombs hitting wont get him down to -Endurance, so it is safe in a spar.
Glima has it's own version of Contested Movement I see. The problem is that his numbers are simply bigger than ours, and 15d6 stoked dice is not enough to even those odds.

If he attacked and we used Contested Movement we'd win out with our bonus dice, but yeah, attacking him in melee is literally just a lose condition as long as he's using that particular trick. Technically, we could add 36d6 to it and win with the Stoker State dice and three uses of Fight of Our Life, but that's not a sure thing even then (that averages only 126...he beat us by 109, that's too close to be a sure thing). Better to just not engage in melee.
@Imperial Fister relevant question: Do we in fact still have our Atgeir Bodyguard up? I imagine his wrestling counterattack just avoided it, which makes sense, but we should still have it, right?

What are the odds Abjorn has as his T4 Fylgja Power "Double any DR you receive from Shapeshifting?" Or even just a baseline floor that he then stacks his Shapeshifts on top of?
That would explain why his reaction to getting hit by even Kindle-Spinners boiled down to "Lol, Lmao even"
Important note for planning: His being unscathed might also be a perfect defense of some sort, so we probably don't want to do Folded Sparkbombs, though we do want to do individual ones with Puncture.

I think double would be too powerful, but it adding a bit is definitely plausible...or hell, just adding shapeshifting slots in general.
Assuming this is even DR...a Perfect defense of 'just taking the hit' is very possible, I suspect, so he could also be using that. I still bet on DR, but it's a possibility.
So if that result was about average, it looks like Abjorm's Hamr + wrestling is like 46 dice? Does he have Glima 12? Glima 6 Fang 6 seems more likely, but that's still an outrageous amount of dice.
Abjorn is consistently a step above Halla on the Combat Tier list. Only one step above her, yes, but still a step above her.
This is not for nothing.
So, how we getting out of the grapple? Because it looks like we're re-enacting the end of the Kayano vs Nagisa matchup from Assassination Classroom right now.

He might also have Muna in the vein of Fight Of Our Life that give specific (but larger) bonuses to wrestling rolls. This is actually pretty likely given his history in combat.
